Review: It's clear to all who follow electronic music with any level of regularity that Om Unit has become one of the most consistently impressive names to follow, with the last decade of work showcasing creativity and sonic innovation with every new outing. This latest 'Fragments' album project sees those talents again at work, from the moogy bass flicks on 'Snagged' to the icey soundscaping of 'Entity' and super sharp drum processing of 'Side Quest'. This album showcases mastery at work, with Om Unit again proving to be a level above those around him, with highlights including the colourful melodic squelches of 'Moonglade' and breaks-inspired energy-boosting qualities of 'Hard Skin'. Top work, as always!
Review: The Om Unit sound has always been highly respected among UK soundsmiths, with the boat always being pushed out beyond the farthest known tide with every new collection. This project sees us dive into the second edition of the Acid Dub Studios collection, which again is jam-packed with futuristic synthesis and outside the box soundscaping beyond our wildest dreams. From the moment the introductory track 'Melted' is unsheathed, breathing blippy acidic energy into the tracklisting right from the jump, we know we are in for a good time, with the sound alternating drastically between the breathy drum bounces of 'Pursuit' and dubby delays of 'Liberation' to the more instrument driven backdrops of 'Electroacidspringwater' and moogy soundscaping of 'Springdub Meditation'. It's another masterclass in forward thinking sonic arrangement, with our two additional highlights being the almost 80's thriller inspired synthetics of 'Valium Tempo', next to the more up-tempo dubwise chords and drum chops of 'Strange Brew'. Excellent work once again!
Review: Over the years we have become very used to Om Unit supplying us with some of the most experimental musical creations out there. This brand new album entitled 'Acid Dub Stories' is the embodiment of that refusal to fall into line, with the tracklisting exploring electronic music production in a way we have never heard before. There is distinctly retro feel about the general arrangement of the project, from the moogy synthesizer action of 'Ghosts' and 'Bristol Theme' to the more spacious use of pad textures in 'Dissolved' and 'Celestial Envoy', It's impossible to define the project within any singular bracket, with it being best described as a masterpiece in digital sound design. Other highlights include the constantly alternating melodic structures of 'The Struggle' and the digital dubwise vibes of 'Circled'. Amazing work!
Review: Returning from the highly well received release of 'Self' the Om Unit wave continues as Cosmic Bridge put together an official remix selection, spanning a range of styles and adding some cool additional depth to the project post release. To begin the party, DBridge gets to work on his official modification of 'What I Can Be', working it into an unpredictable tech expanse before SKRS revamp Passages into a progressive roller with their 'Batta&Bruise' VIP. Next up, Sorrow gets into his zone giving Rider Shafique's exceptional vocal performance on 'Normal' a crystallised stepper rework, before O$VMV$M finishes up the project with an extremely atmospheric overhaul of 'Tahatan'.
