Review: Greta Levska continues her formidable run on Get Physical Music with an Ibiza compilation sampler which follows her 2023 album Flex (for Poker Flat) and EPs for GP like Club Jupiter and Cala Da Bronx. On display here are tracks by JoJo in "Eclipse" with its euphoric progressive house and trance style, to Madd Rod's '80s inspired drive time "Jumping Jacks". Furthermore there's some electro B-boy bangers in Computer Madness' "Travelling Back To The Planet Rock" - NYC in the house - which falls alongside Hammer's disco-inspired "Red Alert". With all that mentioned, there's no overlooking Levska's own "Amps On Route One" - the inspired opener to her piping hot Ibiza mix.
Review: The 2024 Ibiza season may seem like it's still a long way off, but not for Get Physical - and seminal label has put together a soundtrack for this year's White Island parties. As its title suggests, Computer Madness' "Traveling To The Planet Rock" is influenced by old school electro - and includes vocodered vocals, a funk bass and wild stabs unravel over rolling 808s. Corbi's "Wave Machine" is also inspired by electro, but on this occasion, acid lines ebb and flow seductively over the undulating groove . OMRI opts for a different approach on "This Is A Test". Based on a low-slung, throbbing bass, its dubby sound effects are nothing short of hypnotic. Trutopia's "Peace" is more sedate, with glacial synths and soulful vocals merged with minimal drums.
Review: Crosstown Rebels sublabel RebelLION gears up Volume 4 of its SOULS series by presenting four uptempo, deep and moody Burning Man wares. With trippy vocals at play throughout the four tracks here, it's easy to imagine these numbers going down well somewhere in a tech house Texan desert. The deepest of all cuts goes to OMRI with dat "Funk Rhythm" which sits in contrast to the dub Italo tinges of MIMI X FY & Estray's "Robotic Mode". For something slightly more Detroit influenced check out Vini Pastor's "Hypnotized" next to the distorted Roland percussion and hardcore acid of Hoomance & Mili's "Casa Mama".
Review: Sum Over Histories presents "Path Integral VII," a new label compilation offering an exquisite blend of deep, big room, melodic and (sometimes) vocal hits. From the frenetic beauty of OMRI's "XXVI," with its mesmerising stuttered arpeggios, to the captivating breakbeats of Paperplane's "Fold50," the tracks on this compilation traverse progressive landscapes. Jozef K's "Due Light To The Misled" exudes a refined, less chaotic house-inspired essence, while Enamour's "Split Brain" immerses listeners in a tech-infused dub production. With an astute curation that embodies the label's commitment to musical diversity, Path Integral VII adds to the oeuvre of Sum Over Histories' classy curation.
Review: First featured on the Pyramid of the Moon EP, Guy Gerber's 'Bocat' is a stylish, guitar-sporting fusion of moody house and alternative indie-dance featuring fine lead vocals from guest singer Albertina. It's a track ripe for remixing, hence these reworks from Michael Bibi and OMRI. Bibi steps up first, building a tough groove out of thumping kick-drums, crackling handclaps and a deliciously keep and weighty bassline onto which he adds thrusting, low-register TB-303 stabs and Albertina's lead vocal. OMRI takes a different approach, highlighting Gerber's suspenseful piano motifs and glassy-eyed guitar licks before combining them with a tactile tech-house groove and creepy electronic motifs. Both reworks hit the spot, though it's Bibi's energetic and sleazy effort that's probably more suitable for peak-time club plays.
