Review: The long-time collaborators Optiv & CZA are back on C4C with a naughty, naughty single that alludes to a forthcoming project. What that project is we're not entirely sure, but either way, if this single is anything to go by, it's going to be wicked. 'Gemini' is just insanely good, with a solid bed of percussion that grounds the entire tune in moody junglist sonics and a punching, stabby bassline that reminds us of the old Renegade Hardware days. The flip - 'Similar Things' - is similar drum wise but manages to ramp up the tension even more before it cuts off into a groaning, heaving mass of basses. Unreal.

Review: The first non-Ed Rush & Optical related release on Virus since Insideinfo and Mefjus's "Footpath" in 2015, Optiv & BTK hurtle into the fray with two supreme agenda-setting tech rollers. "Crowd Control" is a rowdy piece of work with mosh mastering commands from rising Methlab-signed MC Kryptomedic, "Supernova" is a dense weave of futuristic basses twisting and turning with hype heaving with momentum on every bar. Both, in true Virus fashion, absolutely kill it.

Review: Want a non-stop drum and bass LP of 13 tear out bangers? Optiv & BTK offer no respite on Blackjack with its hi-octane fuel for the dancerfloor. Tracks like "Shredder", "Weapon Of Choice", "Dirt Box" and "Snake Bite" are as knees up as they sound, while "Ground Shaker", "Nemisis" and "That Sound" are as rolling as they are breakbeat. Featured MCs include Ryme Tyme waxing casual drawls over frenetic arrangements while Nuklear takes you down 'deeper deeper deeper'. No misfires here.

Review: Renegade Hardware never pull any punches, and this latest from D&B badman Optiv and fellow Cause 4 Concern member CZA are no exception to that rule. Kicking this up a notch from the get go, it's a high-energy release that's destined to make crowds scream. Big, heavy and with classic Optiv nastiness running through it like a stick of Blackpool's finest, the dancefloor sweat is almost tangible. Flip it over for a neuro-storm of epic proportions in "Back To The Future". Nice.

Review: A delightful triplet of remix tracks here, brought to you on the Dutty Audio imprint from serial badmen Optiv, BTK and Borderline who get given the remix treatment by Mefjus, optiv and Teknik respectively. Kicking off with Optiv & BTK - "Whatever (Mefjus Remix)", it's all power booming subs, robotic voiceovers and raw, neuro mayhem with plenty of punch. Next is BTK - "Drop It (Optiv Remix)" which is all grinding b-line, grouchy SFX and hissing hi hats a-plenty, whilst Borderline - "Thinker (Teknik Remix)" is a proper 3am rinse out tune with plenty of bite.

Featuring tracks from the likes of Noisia and Chase & Status, the compilation brought Bad Taste to the attention of the world. Now in 2010, the imprint is still going strong and their third volume in the series is set to become the hit that the previous two CDs had become.
Maldini and Vegas, who have been there from the start, remain at the helm of Bad Company UK following the departures of Fresh and dBridge who split to pursue their solo careers. At the helm, Maldini & Vegas' Bad Taste compilations have become a phenomenon with the drum and bass scene. Still as relevant and important to the scene today, Bad Taste Volume 3 showcases the underground sounds of the gritty techstep that the pair do so well together. 1o tracks of the most upfront jungle and drum and bass bring the dark dancefloor vibes of the underground to the masses. Featuring tracks from scene leaders such as Gridlok, Upbeats, Blokhe4d, Optiv, Prolix, and of course Maldini & Vegas, who deliver some exclusive cuts for the compilation, this is a perfect representation of the vibrant scene as we find it tonight.
