Review: The fourth release in Amotik's Plus series sees Orbe share an EP with Angioma and Blanka from Room Trax. Orbe's "Inverted" is a hypnotic tribal roller. Featuring waves of rasping percussion and a shrieking riff, it's as distinctive as it is impactful. Orbe's "Exelon" follows a similar direction, but is more understated, with mysterious synths unfolding over robust drums. Angioma & Blanka's "Mindset" is also focused on a tribal groove. This time however, it's slower and more teased out, with vocal loops and hypnotic tones prevailing. The duo's "Bottomless" sees them go deeper. Spaced out tones and dreamy synths are combined for an esoteric sound that will still work on the dance floor.
Review: The Slovenian label Cogo returns with another exploration of techno on "Various Artists - VA.02," a compilation showcasing the label's dedication to driving techno forward featuring heavy hitters Jeroen Search, Border One, ORBE, and Tonske . Expect driving, bass-heavy cuts perfect for peak-time club moments, alongside more atmospheric and hypnotic tracks for deeper dives. The journey begins with Jeroen Search's "Observer," a minimalist masterpiece. A simple yet polyrhythmic synth and kick duo lays the foundation, slowly building with swirling pads. Border One follows with "Contour," maintaining the minimalist aesthetic of the release while ORBE's "Wolheim" shift gears slightly, with groove elements and shimmering synth hits. Then Tonske comes up with "Droid," a piece that conjures imagery of interstellar travel through peripheral synth blips, resembling passing stars. Lucky for us, the digital release includes exclusive Tonske remixes of Border One's "Contour" and ORBE's "Wolheim" to complete this exploration of the depths of hypnotic techno.
