Hunting Season - (5:20) 153 BPM
Quick Thinking - (6:11) 140 BPM Hot
The Point Of No Return - (5:57) 141 BPM
Review: Bass Agenda Recordings have struck gold with this latest mission as they welcome the explosive production skill sets of Orlando Voorn inside for three hard hitting breaksy originals, jam-packed with originality from start to finish. We begin with the slumberous rhythmic twists and packed out sub sections of 'Hunting Season', a technophone's nightmare, stuffed to the brim with bleeps and crashes. From here, 'Quick Thinking' then delivers something a little more industrial, focussing on pacey bass bumps and skippy drum sweeps, before the emotive melodies and tooting horn lines of 'The Point Of No Return' arrives for a hard hitting finale. Top stuff indeed!

UC Beatz - "Make Me Feel" (Orlando Voorn remix feat Marina Trench) - (6:10) 124 BPM
Review: Heist Recordings' 'The Round Up' - an annual mini-album in which label artists remix each other - reaches its tenth volume. As usual, there's plenty to set the pulse racing throughout. Dam Swindle channel the spirit of Victor Simonelli's early '90s NYC house productions on a fine version of Cinthie's 'Won't You Take Me', Krewcial opts for a bouncy, piano-rich 'classic house' revision of Orlando Voorn's 'High', and DJ Sneak re-imagines Dam Swindle's 'Soul's Lament' as a rolling, string-stab laden slice of rolling Chicago chunkiness. Further highlights include Crackazat's loose-limbed, sun-soaked and synth solo-heavy revision of Krewcial's 'Owo', Cinthie turns DJ Sneak's 'Full Cycle' into an acid-and-filter heavy peak-time loop jam, and Orlando Voorn and Marina Trench join forces on a deep, drowsy and woozy rework of UC Beatz's 'Make Me Feel'.

Da Learning EP
Da Learning - (6:50) 127 BPM
Fun - (5:37) 126 BPM
Hypnotized - (6:06) 132 BPM Hot
Review: Orlando Voorn is a true don: when he speaks, house dancefloors listen, and these three new cuts are merely the latest proof. 'Da Learning' itself is a dense, shuffly affair that takes quite an old-school approach in its use of cut-up vocal loops (and indeed loops generally). S'good, but the other two are even better: 'Fun' is big, bouncy and strutty, marrying two very familiar vocal samples to some seriously squelchy bottom end, while 'Hypnotized' proves that you can go a long way with a Belgian techno bassline and a Loose Joints vocal bite even if it IS now 2023, not 1991! Dancing will most definitely ensue.

Review: Boasting a huge lineup of artists to get things rolling, Cocoon Recordings employs the likes of Levon Vincent, Benjamin Damage, Orlando Voorn and Space Dimensions Controller (to name a few) on this much anticipated Cocoon Compilation U. From the atmospheric opener by New Jackson to the distinctive funk of Ian Pooley's "DDG Talk", or the impulsive tech house of "Il Rotori" - each number here contributes a unique flavour to the compilation that brings together a seamless blend of pulsating beats, hypnotic rhythms, and mind-bending soundscapes that transport you into a world of pure sonic bliss. Our tip goes to DJ Tennis' smooth "Take It Take It" with that bassline and undeniable 2000s quality punctuating a compiled LP of world class quality.

Review: As part of Heist Recordings' ongoing 10th birthday celebrations, label founders Dam Swindle have decided to showcase some of the 'Hidden Gems' lurking in the imprint's back catalogue. It's a smart move, because there's plenty of high-grade dancefloor heat to be found across the 15 under-celebrated tracks on show. For proof, check the squelchy synth-bass, rushing piano riffs and classic house vibes of Fouk's 'Truffles', the gorgeous sci-fi techno melodiousness of Lord of the Samurai's 'Space Designer', the sun-splashed, jazz-flecked excellence of Crackazat's 'We Know', the low-slung, drum machine driven headiness of Adesse Versions' 'Push It Along' and the drowsy, soul-flecked late-night deepness pf Marina Trench and Sabrina Bellaouel's 'Wake Up'.

Outerworld - (6:41) 144 BPM
Reverse Psychology - (6:07) 131 BPM
Space Trap - (4:19) 144 BPM
Review: It's been a while since Orlando Voorn dropped an electro EP, and he's chosen one of the most influential labels to release Outerworld on. Trust has been home to luminaries like Clatterbox, Stingray and The Exaltics over the years, so Voorn is in good company. Of course, this four-tracker can also stand on its own merits. It moves from the moody, acid-soaked "Shockwave", into the title track, where he melds dramatic stabs with robust 808s. In contrast, "Reverse Psychology" is more abstract, resounding to a stop-start rhythm, while he ventures to the outer limits on "Space Trap". Underpinned by spaced out tones and loose drums, it's an atmospheric, distinctive jam.

Makez - "La Grande Folie" (Orlando Voorn remix) - (6:19) 143 BPM
Review: The release of the latest volume of 'The Round Up' - an EP in which Heist Recordings contributors remix each other - has become an annual institution. 2023's edition - the ninth in the series to date - is naturally an impressive, all-action affair. Label bosses Dam Swindle kick things off by turning Crackazat's inherently jazzy 'Demucha' into a glossy, funk-fuelled disco-house roller, before Byron The Aquarius adds a gently glassy-eyed, dreamy tinged to that duo's 'Good Woman'. Crazkazat joins the dots between string-laden disco-house and classy US style deep house on his take on Orlando Voorn's 'Be With You', while Voorn delivers a breathless, electro-goes-techno-funk tweak on Makez's 'La Grand Folie'. Elsewhere, Nebraska shuffles his way through an attractive, soul-flecked revision of Nebraska, and Makez delivers a fizzing, hands-aloft techno rework of Nebraska.

3 Elements (Beatless) - (6:39) 125 BPM
Amazone - (6:25) 137 BPM
Review: Orlando Voorn has been making and releasing electronic music for almost three decades, but his work still has a fresh sensibility and feeling. Sci-fi Angel is no exception. It follows a slew of new material from Voorn this year on well-known labels Kompakt, Deeptrax and Elypsia, and sees the veteran producer deliver surprises at each turn. From the Suburban Knight-style techno of "Sci-fi Angel (Electro mix)", which resounds to a nocturnal bass, to the dreamy, widescreen ambience of "3 Elements (Beatless)" and into the niggling, acid-tinged groove of "Amazone", Voorn's latest release is a compelling reflection of a true master at work.

Tenderness (Late Night dub) - (6:08) 128 BPM
Review: Dam Swindle may be amongst the most storied Dutch dance producers of their generation, but they know that they owe a lot to trailblazers such as Orlando Voorn, who's near three-decade career has included forays into electro, Detroit style techno futurism, deep house and much more besides. The veteran producer's first EP for the duo's Heist Recordings label is, somewhat predictably, packed with timeless-sounding treats. We're particularly excited by the bumpin', organ-heavy house bounce of 'Tenderness', which sounds like his take on mid-'90s U.S house, but others may prefer the driving, bass-heavy deep house drums, disco string samples and soulful vocal snippets of 'Be With You'. To round off a fine package, Voorn delivers a brilliantly spacey, intergalactic-sounding and subtly dub house-influenced Dub mix of 'Tenderness'.

The Same Girl - (6:52) 124 BPM
In My Soul - (6:33) 122 BPM
The Reality - (6:08) 118 BPM
Review: Although best known for his forays into futurist techno and body-popping electrofunk, Orlando Voorn is well capable of making seriously good deep house, as this four-track missive emphatically proves. The Dutchman is in prime form on 'Sometimes', a leisurely and loopy slab of tactile deep house warmth built around soft-touch instrumental samples and classic soul vocal snippets. Voorn then pushes up the tempo on jazzy, chunky sample-house loop jam 'The Same Girl', before combining squelchy electronics and hushed house beats with more vintage soul loops on 'In My Soul'. A rock-solid EP is drawn to a close by 'Reality', a much jazzier and bluesy chunk of head-nodding deep house perfection.

Review: Dutch techno and electro veteran, Orlando Voorn has been even more prolific than usual of late, delivering must-check EPs on Kompakt, Bombis and Bad Manners. Voorn's new outing on Burek, a Croatian label that's genuinely going places, is rather good too, though musically far more colourful, funky and house-influenced than we've come to expect. Check first sweet, summery and boogie-influenced opener 'Soul Society', before getting your ears around the heady piano-house stomp of 'Lovin' You (Shine)' - a superb slab of celebratory retro-futurism - and the warming haziness of twinkling deep house cut 'Waters Run Deep'. Elsewhere, 'Funk Isolation' adds undulating bass guitar, swirling chords and bleeping 8-bit melodies to a hot-steppin' house beat, while 'Waters Run Deep (Beatless)' reinvents that track as an ultra-deep drift through ambient space.

Ride The Wave - (5:52) 142 BPM
Review: Orlando Voorn has been putting out techno for almost 30 years, but the passage of time has not had an impact on the quality of his output. 2020 saw him release a slew of high-quality Eps and a great artist album; this year looks set to see a similar work rate, and Internal Destination opens his 2021 account in style. It starts with the woozy, deep tones and shuffling drums of "Stuck In My Ways", while on the title track, Voorn drops a melodic, wiry groove, an ode to the Detroit techno influence that looms large on his work. Changing tact again, the veteran producer drops the break beats and tripped out synths of "Ride The Wave".

Review: Dutch techno veteran Orlando Voorn is back on Soul Stage Records, which Voorn has taken over from the late Morgan Anson at the blessing of his family. Yet more lush house, disco and soul infusions that the label describes as "pushing boundaries to make something uncompromising that we can be proud of". From the infectious machine funk of "Never Knew" in its original format, followed by another deep and sensual vocal house remix by the man himself. More reworks come from the late label boss Anson with Blackpool's Luke Neptune, and Paul Donton (of Bombis Records) with a sensual and hypnotic afterhours mix which reaches near tribal moments.

Review: "Spread My Wings" is the first of a series of soon-to-be-released singles by Dutch veteran Orlando Voorn on Moonlight. In its original form, the track is not Motor City techno - Voorn's stock-in-trade style - but rather a wonderfully soft-touch chunk of hypnotic deep house rich in stirring strings, gentle orchestration and lilting melodies. It's certainly memorable and undoubtedly hits the spot. It comes backed with two remixes: a deliciously percussive, pitched up "Falcon Tribal" deep techno rub from Topology Elenora and an "R&B" mix that re-imagines the track as a dubby, bass-heavy chunk of stoned beat science.

Review: Dutch techno legend Orlando Voorn has opened up his archive, for the first of what will be an ongoing artist-focused series brought to you by Above Board Projects. Spread across two volumes, the compilation will feature tracks from many of Voorn's pseudonyms including Fix, Baruka, The Ghetto Brothers, Mute and many more. This initial release features the sensual Motor City inspired techno-soul of "Life Beyond The Clouds" featuring vocals by the one and only Blake Baxter (Tresor) and the utterly hypnotic "DX Me Silly" from 1992 which channels the same vibe as fellow legend Robert Hood id around the same period with its linear minimalism.

Review: Veteran Dutch producer Orlando Voorn has been producing house and techno for nigh on three decades now, releasing seminal classics under varied aliases such as Fix, Basic Bastard, Designer Loops and The Nighttripper among many others. Moreover, he was one of the first Dutch musicians to establish a vital connection between Detroit and Amsterdam. A best of compilation covering many fine moments throughout Voorn's career was well overdue, and The Best Of Orlando Voorn features a bunch of right classics and anthems alike: not limited to the crossover classic Flash" (as Fix), the hi-tech soul of "Where Is Your Evidence" (as Frequency), the soulful vocal house of "Dance" (as Format) and the wonky percolator jack of "Dream World" (as Complex).

Lost In Heaven - (7:44) 119 BPM Hot
Driven - (8:19) 125 BPM
Review: While Orlando Voorn has always been associated with Detroit-influenced techno, his recent In My World full-length on Rush Hour cast the net wider for musical inspiration. In particular, it contained a number of sparkling deep house cuts. It's this deep house influence that he explores further on this two-tracker for Piston Recordings. He begins with the hazy swing of "Lost In Heaven", where looped cellos and violins mingle with drowsy chords and soft-touch beats. The strings are even more prominent on virtual flipside "Driven", with Voorn's clipped guitars and orchestral motifs rising and falling over a positive, ear-pleasing deep house backdrop.

The man behind such seminal aisses as Fix, Designer Loops and Basic Bastard presents a varied palette of grooves on this album, from the smack electro of opener "Turn Left Right Here" and the fierce "Predators Cave" to the high tech soul of "Lead Me The Right Way" or "Anti Political" (which could have been on Transmat it's so soulful). There's some straight up dancefloor gold too of course, such as on "Chicago By Night" and "In My World" but still carry on with some serious injections of futuristic blues! Highly recommended.

Review: Vibes New & Rare Music 2 reaches its conclusion here as Rush Hour drop the second and final helping of the Rick Wilhite-curated compilation with a suitably high profile cast of contributors involved. If you checked Part One which dropped earlier this year, you'll know Wilhite has expanded the remit to include producers from Chicago and New York - and if you didn't check it what's wrong with you! Any compilation that starts with an exclusive cut from Moodymann is gonna be good, and the dusty, disjointed "Momma" sets the tone quality wise for what follows. The Godson himself delivers a thunderous, stripped back take on "A Matter of Honour" by Sean Tate and this dukes it out with the apocalyptic electro of DJ Stingray and the rugged beatdown of Orlando Voorn as our favourites from this great collection.

Review: London distributor, PR/DJ agency and all-round nice guys EPM celebrate 10 years in business with a compilation that features some of electronic music's most respected names. Italo veteran Alexander Robotnick delivers the tear-jerking melodies of "Running About", while Rob Hood, working as Floorplan, delivers the looped disco meets Chicago house jack of "Move It". There is austere techno courtesy of Mark Broom and James Ruskin on the restrained, bleepy minimal "Merz" and Sandwell District's dub meets chilling strings workout "Live in Berlin", while RadioNasty drops the woozy bass and elector breaks of "Radio 3". All these contributions display EPM's flawless underground credentials, while they may have a mainstream club hit on their hands in the shape of the shimmering strings, plaintive keys and Ibiza-friendly groove of Marius's "Jet Set".
