Review: Russia's Vecherinka label comes through with their debut release, and it's by Ovrkl, a young lad who has already released one previous EP and who is surely destined to release plenty more. Things are techy and house-ridden, with "Ur Eyes" placing a wonderful bassline over a pouncing 4/4 groove and expertly placed melodics and FX. Title track "Pointer" sounds like a cross between Chicago ghetto house and something Joy Orbison would conjure up, thanks mainly to that de-tuned vocal sample wailing constantly above the rhythm. Last but certainly not least, "Changes" takes things down a notch and Ovrkl creates another solid cocktail of drums and wonderfully executed basslines.
