Review: What a year it has already been for the DUPLOC collective. A crew that has done more than almost any to uphold and push the future of dubstep forward, both as a label and as a general entity. This latest drop sees them pull together this enormity of their 'BLXCK TXPES' releases for one almighty collection, bringing together the likes of Oxossi, Ternion Sound, Wraz, ENiGMA Dubz, Hypho and many other titan-weight producers for possibly the most loaded dubstep drop in recent years. Although previously released, it's fair to name a few highlights, including the super jittery subs of Roklem & Sebalo's 'Shake The System', the bulbous bass bounces of Lost's 'Level Up' and of course, the authentic sounds of Hamdi with his generational smasher 'Skanka'.

Review: In all honesty, we are running out of words to describe the pure domination we are seeing from the Duploc camp, especially with their output thriving heavily in 2023's unique dubstep ecosystem. For this latest offering, they celebrate their 100th official drop with a regal arrangement of guests, including the likes of Lost, Wraz, Rugby, Ternion Sound, ENiGMA Dubz and more, all of whom have pulled out their weightiest weapons in combined celebration. If you wanted a full on display of the majesty currently at work within dubstep's deep catacombs, then look no further than this epic selection, with our favourites including the ground mulching bass melodies of Hebbe's 'The Insider', next to Mystic State's warming rework of 'Voice' from Opus, and of course Hamdi's rave-ready synth action explored within 'Immortal'. There aren't many collectives doing more than the Duploc team right now.

Review: Whenever we see the name Oxossi popping up in store, we take a second to prepare ourselves for the undoubted onslaught of bass-driven abandon that is about to commence. This latest two tracker sees him bring his uniquely abstract take on 140 to table with a high level of fire, opening up with the super-syncopated rhythmic switches and fiery synthesiser displays of 'Cranky', a monstrous combination of organic percussion and unique melodic flavour. On the flip, the more wonky lead-lines of 'Deadlocked' gives us another pulsing, swampy sweep, constantly expanding in size and energy, rounding off a very heavyweight EP that we are sure is going to cause many a ruckus as festival season continues to approach.

Review: What a link up we have here, as we see the ever-dependable unpredictability of Oxossi welcoming onto the Duploc platform for a super-gnarly three track experience, exploring dark instrumentation and futuristic rhythms in style. We open up with 'XXX', a creepy drip through haunted string melodies and moody bass action for an almost regal look at modern day 140, before the instantly recognizable vocal patterns of Rakjay arrive on the gloopy subs and electrifying basslines of 'Rearranging', giving us another oomf-driven bubbler. We then see the EP out with the nostalgia-inducing LFO pulses and unorthodox clarinet melodies of 'Smile Lines', a proper DMZ-style throwback into original dubstep minimalism, giving us a wicked way to close the project out in style.

Review: Across the last 10 years, there aren't many platforms that have given as much energy, time and dedication towards the dubstep scene than Duploc, a platform and entity committed to the betterment and advancement of the original dubwise sound. This collection is a fabulous showcase of the strength they posses as both a label and promotional platform, with 10 of the best delivering absolute weapons, from the swampy bass reverberations of Infekt's 'Kefir', to the Bond-esc bass grooves of Tactics from Ternion Sound and dizzying soundscaping of Juss B's 'Can't Sleep'. The overall project is just dripping in quality, with the likes of ENiGMA Dubz, Oxossi, Mungk, Smith. and Ourman all hard hitting creations. Our highlights have to include the metallic masterclass of Distance's 'Vigilance', showcasing one of the scenes eternal heavyweights, next to the slickly designed sub crunches and bouncy percussive overloads of Hebbe's 'Quotha'. Incredible work and an incredible way to celebrate such an important institution.

Review: It's always an exciting thing to see the Duploc team leap into action, with this new compilation entitled 'BLXCKTXPES' being a ferocious way to kick start 2022. Featuring a range of artists, this project explores the underbelly of dubstep's most grizzly soundsmiths, with the likes of Infekt, Ternion Sound, Mesck, MYTHM, Wraz, Substrada & Widow all playing vital roles and supplying us with sub-shaking originals, adding even more firepower to Duploc's already stacked arsenal of a catalogue. Our highlights for this one would have to include the floating synthesizer sweeps and angelic pad textures of Ternion Sound's 'Vision Quest', which again gives us a fabulous journey through more mellow dubstep themes, alongside the unpredictable percussive twists and aggressive string designs of 'Smile Lines' from Oxossi. What a selection it is!

Review: 2021 was a very lively year for Oxossi, who continued to establish himself as one of the most exciting 140 artists out there, constantly breaking down sonic boundaries with his expansive compositional style. This latest four track showcase of Silent Motion continues that theme, with the grizzly sonic storms and syncopated rhythms of 'Rollers' coupling with dizzying sub structures and dubbed out vocal slaps for a gnarly introduction. From here, the war-like horns and wonky synthesizer slides of '6 Under' give us a much more trippy sense of dubstep flavour, before we waltz into 'Kadian Dub', an LFO driven jig through unusual rhythmic bounces and catchy chord dabs. Finally, 'Couch Dub' gives us a horror-influenced dubwise experience, with goofy organ leads and aquatic atmospheric designs giving us a solid outro track. Lovely work!

Review: We have often spoken about how excited we are to hear new Infernal Sounds projects, with today's being the cherry on the top of a very exciting year so far. Having had them as guests on The JunoDownload podcast, we knew this drop was going to be a bit crazy, as they unveil twelve storming originals from some of the biggest names to grace the label, including the likes of Fiend, Causa, Bukkha, J:Kenzo, Sabab, Ternion Sound & more, all delivering power dubstep creations and upping the levels from one track to the next. The entire tracklisting is crazy, but our standouts would have to include firstly the warbling synthesizer rattles of Nova's 'Calivate', a storming original that really hits home on where dubstep is today. We would also have to include the gnarly electronic melodies of 'Gutta' from Dark Tantrums, alongside the more subtle chord structures and syncopated bliss of Oxossi's 'Wyldin'.

Review: Following on from a fabulous year of releases, Deep Dark & Dangerous are back at it again, this time unveiling Oxossi's brand new drop, featuring five sumptuous sizzlers. We begin with the shimmering rhythms and bulgining bass pulses of 'Sweat' which injects the project with energy right from the off, before the organic percussive sampling and sweeping, detuned horn-lines of 'Magdelena' give us something very different indeed. Next 'Morbid Impulses' delivers a combination of smashing drum slaps and eastern melody, before the more mellow composition and shaker-lead rhythms of 'Sosa' again steer the EP in a completely different direction. We then finish up with the Lo-fi drum processing and spooky melodic synthesis of 'Dead Thorns' which puts one final twist in the tale of this fabulous selection.

Review: Whenever we see that Subaltern are gearing up for a new release we find ourselves excited, but when we then learn that Oxossi was the next producer up, we were literally jumping for joy. This latest four track project is a masterpiece, showcasing the experimental side of dubstep in all its shining glory, kicking off with the alien-like compositional structures of the title track 'Sama'. Next, 'Saut Dans Le Vide' arrives with a swinging set of potent sub structures, alongside the glitchy textures of 'Undead'. Finally, 'Rejoice' unleashes a gnarly array of gloomy atmospheric pressure, rounding this one off in style.

Review: In recent times it's becoming hard to keep pace with Joe Nice's Goliath Gourmet Beats imprint. The team have done it again, this time with a four track selection featuring some of the brightest names in dubstep. This EP truly has something for everyone, be it the 01-infused sounds of EshOne's "Corked VIP", the incredible rhythmic structure of Sepia's "Music Box VIP", the pure depth of "Peregrine VIP" from Inyoka or the grimey oscillators flowing through Oxossi's VIP of "Malevolent". Jam-packed with deep subs, stunning syncopation and beautiful melodics, this high profile VIP selection has it all and comes highly recommend from us!

Review: Within the dubstep community, the one thing that is universally celebrated is creativity and there are few with more of that at their disposal than Oxossi. For this project he teams up with the now infamous Deep Dark & Dangerous team, and what a project it is! The title track "Dark Passenger" is reminiscent of early DMZ, with grinding bass LFO's duetting with haunting atmospherics and dubbed out drum work. Next up we have the phenomenal arrangement of 'Tippy Toeing' which is a goody bag of unpredictable rhythmics and crunchy synthesis. Following this we dive into the intense soundscaping of "Tokoloshe" finishing up with the heavy syncopation of "Ride It". This is a great piece of work for all involved!

Review: West Coast dubstep engineer Oxossi makes his way back to Crucial Recordings with this mighty four-tracker spanning just about every single personality within the enlarged 'bass' domain - in here, you'll find everything from wavy post-grime to oddball drum-machine experiments, such as the opening "Escher" - an infinite loop of insanity. "&" slithers its mystical drum patters in a firmly off-kilter kind of movement, while "Fall Of Mevia" is probably the freshest grime reinterpretation we've heard since the start of the year (that bass is naughty), and "Nightmares" ties the whole thing off with goulish injections of low frequencies in supremely wayward fashion.

Review: US label Gourmet Beats never strays too close to any one genre, but it's safe to say that it specialises in experimenting with the lower end of hertz scale. They've got an exciting selection of new talent growing by the day, and this latest collaborative EP makes for a certified bass tip this week! Mesck's "BadFuture" is all about that bass drop, Subtle Mind puts in a fine performance, but out favourite of these has to be the more swamped gunshot riddim called "Secrets" by Introspekt. Oxossi's "Malevolent" ain't exactly a tune to be overlooked, however, and that flurry of bass is getting our own heads nodding up and down here at Juno HQ.

Review: Los Angeleno Oxossi has been plying away at his craft for the last couple of years, with his debut release on Banana Stand Sound in 2015 and now for Sleeper's UK based imprint Crucial Recordings. "Solace" delves into the exotic, all full of esoteric charm like an opium haze and featuring Rider Shaffique's spiritually enlightening monologue. "Reflections" up the ante a bit with some well rolled bass frequencies and an infectiously wonky melody, both snaking away in densely reverberated bliss. Finally "The Tempest" gloriously crosses over from dub into something else altogether with its mesmerising harp melody, but just wait until that snarling sub bass sets in; pure fire bro!

Review: Danish dub dons Surfase celebrate their 25th release with a walloping 24-track refresh session that brings everyone up to speed on two years of monthly dispatches. All their decorated contributors are present and correct: RDG, G Double, Gaze Ill, Subtle Mind and many more. Highlights include the swooning strings and rattling drums of Server's "Boxing", Subreacher's chest-crushing bass wobbler "The Machine" and RDG's insanity work out "It's All In Your Mind". It's not in your mind, though... This is as real as it gets. Here's to another 25 killer releases.
