Review: Electronic duo Pale Blue releases their highly anticipated second album 'Maria' on Crosstown Rebels. With eight captivating tracks, the long-player takes listeners on an immersive electronic journey. Mike Simonetti (Italians Do It Better) and Elizabeth Wight (Silver Hands) formed the outfit in 2015, gaining acclaim with their debut album. It showcases Wight's personal experiences and thoughts through her lyrics, accompanied by techno-infused melodies that lean towards rock influences. From dreamlike melodies to haunting productions, the album seamlessly blends electronica with pop touches.

Together Alone (Kolsch 'I Have You' remix) - (7:07) 127 BPM Biggest-selling track on this release
Review: Pale Blue, the musical duo consisting of Elizabeth Wight and Mike Simonetti and recently signed to Crosstown Rebels, has released their latest emotionally charged track, "Together Alone." Wight's honest and haunting vocals glide smoothly over the mix, reminiscent of trip-hop icons like Martina Topley-Bird and Tracey Thorn, but with a minimalist techno backing. Then to accompanies the release, Danish Native Rune Reilly Kolsch himself offers a groovier bassline and glittering build remix, which omits the vocals. This new single is the third release from Pale Blue's upcoming album on Crosstown Rebels, showcasing their collaborative work as critically acclaimed artists with renowned solo careers in the electronic realm.

Review: Pale Blue has recently released "No Words," the second single from their forthcoming album Maria. The electronic duo's album consists of love songs, with this track being a standout. It was created using synths from Jaydee, the producer behind the iconic "Plastic Dreams." With a captivating bassline and fluttering vocals, it captures a playful and optimistic nature. The single includes remixes from Perel whose Dub Version offering a cosmic dive through spacey synths and ever-evolving electronics, while DJ Tennis' remix is hazy yet captivating, with organic drums and engrossing melodies forming around the vocals.

Review: Delivering us some stellar remixes over the years with their 2007 DJ Kicks edition and their Bugged Out mix (2009), a new Hot Chip mix or compilation is always welcome - especially in 2020! Fine selectors of immaculate taste, this mix brings us new and exclusive tracks from artists like Beatrice Dillon with the chilled and resonating "Workaround Two" to Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith's beatless and exotic "Who I Am & Why Am I Where". Added to that list is a deeper and drum laden synth groove from Fever Ray to some contemporary classical and emotive minimalism from Berlin's Nils Frahm. Hot Chip themselves 'chip in' with their own vocal cover of "Candy Says" alongside other contemporary avant pop numbers from Charlotte Adigery and Mike Salta's housey and happy "Hey Moloko". Late Night Tales and dreams from the future. Hot Chip!

Review: Scene veteran Sean Brosnan is the selector behind Future Disco's latest all-action collection of nu-disco and disco-inspired house cuts, which is here presented in DJ-friendly, unmixed form. As usual, you'll find a clutch of recent peak-time club hits - see Louie Vega's fantastic rework of Sylvester's "Dance", the brilliant E-Live Remix of Saucy Lady's boogie-powered "Together" and Danny Krvit's simultaneously stomping and spacey Extended Vocal Dub Edit of Emilie Nana's "I Rise" - alongside previously unheard Future Disco edits and lesser-celebrated gems (see Amp Fiddler's "Steppin", Kraak and Smaak's collaboration with Luxxury, and Greg Wilson's exclusive tweak of Sweet Tooth T's cover of Chemise's boogie classic "She Can't Love You").

Review: Pale Blue are the duo of Elizabeth Wight and Mike Simonetti, who released their debut album to much critical acclaim back in 2015. They come together once again with their latest EP for the mighty Crosstown Rebels. Simonetti and Wight have each earned musical stripes in their own rights: Simonetti founded the hugely popular Italians Do It Better, as well as his own successful record label, 2MR. Wight has previously lent her exhilarating vocals to the West Coast band Silver Hands. On offer here is some pop-inflected deep house that fits right in with Damian Lazarus' modus operandi here: from the brooding yet bittersweet title track, or the sexy noir-acid of "Daughter Of Babylon" which sounds like a drive through Los Angeles after midnight. Finally "Love" is a dark and strobe-lit after hours house jam which supports Wight's sultry dead-pan vocals perfectly.

Review: Crosstown Rebels boss Damian Lazarus has described Spirits, the label's new annual compilation series, as "a fresh psychedelic journey into the mind". While that might be over-egging the (Christmas) pudding a bit, there's definitely a deep, humid and occasionally hallucinatory feel to many of the showcased tracks, which mostly sit somewhere between lucid deep house and skewed tech-house wonkiness. Wisely, Lazarus has chosen tracks from new and rising stars of his various labels, with highlights coming from the likes of Magit Cacoon (the bass-heavy, Innervisions-esque "Nonsense"), Raw District (the foreboding last night hypnotism of "Another Way", featuring folksy vocalist Alice Rose) and Nico Stajan and David Mayer, whose brilliant "Killing Your Lover" layers an eyes-closed Jan Blomqvist vocal over dense but groovy tribal drums.

Review: The Future Disco crew has described this tenth volume in their popular compilation series as "the closing of a chapter". In effect, though, it's business as usual, with the un-credited compilers gathering together their usual mix of nu-disco, Balearic-minded floor-fillers, and house cuts inspired by original disco and boogie. Among the many highlights you'll find the deep disco wooziness of Snacks' "Matinee", a throbbing Tiger & Woods remix of Kraak & Smaak's "Way Back Home", the bombastic disco-techno of Adesse Versions' "Explain It", and some Italo-disco influenced Scandolearic business from Skateboard. Oh, and DJ Koze's anthem-like Disco Edit of Lapsley's "Operator", which is undoubtedly one of the dancefloor success stories of 2016.
