Upnaked (Vida G remix) - (6:02) 86 BPM
Review: Last year Greek duo Panama Cardoon released their Hasta La Wiggel album, a selection of music that combined broken beat and folky melodies with nu jazz, dub and rapped vocals sung in a choral similar to Nelly Furtado. Their style is now remixed for the hot nights of a Latin summer, with Rafael Aragon turning in a perfect remix to close a night with. Giorgos Bratanis's Cayetano project delivers a percussive clink that chimes in his remix to "Desoes", while English language makes an appearance in a 'dirty dog' funked-out, calypso and soulful rework to "Don't Let Me Go" - as for a drum and bass addition, leave that to Katakana Edits signing Vida G.

Review: Despite being a staple on the Carnibal release schedules, this is the first non-compilation release for Panana Cardoon since Oye! back in 2011. Recent material included the breaky Eurodance of Bosporus Thief, but here on "Hasta La Wiggle" we get a different mix, including Latin shuffle-core ("Senor Pepe"), breaky vintage movie soundtrack funk ("Monica"), feelgood pop-reggae ("Upnaked") and even the reggaeton hip-hop hybrid "Don't Let Me Know".

Mohinder Kaur Bhamra - "Ni Aae Na Vilayat Kuriay" (Senor Griff remix) - (4:30) 103 BPM
Hammond Classics - "Stepping Higher" - (5:20) 80 BPM
Palov - "Bedbug" (feat Ang Angelides) - (4:28) 94 BPM Hot
Review: Greek electro-swing label Carnibal bring more heat with their eighth release, a label comp featuring a host of familiar names. On "Bosporus Thief", Panama Cardoon delivers an electro-house style jam, but with extra chunky beats and enchanting Turkish melodies. Senor Griff works his magic on "Ni Aae Na Vilayat Kuriay" resulting in a pleasantly bizarre electro/cumbia/Bollywood hybrid. Hammond Classics provides a catchy electronic reggae joint "Stepping Higher" and only Pavlov seems to stick with the Latino-isms for his "Bedbug".

Fellin' RollEXCLUSIVE
Panama Cardoon - "Feelin' Roll" - (3:55) 101 BPM
Sono Rhizmo' - "Do Your Stuff" - (4:00) 112 BPM Hot
Review: With this, their latest split release, Resence Records prove that there's always love for a party-focused mash-up. First up, "Feelin' Roll" sees Panama Cardoon mash up Mr Scruff and Wayne Marshall to create what they claim to be 'a guaranteed hands-in-the-air, boom-bap bounce drenched in organ riffs and island vibes', and who are we to argue? "Do Your Stuff" meanwhile is only part mash-up, with Resence's very own Sono Rhizmo reworking Miami funk-soul dude Mr Perculator (aka Perk Badger) for a trumpets-and-back-beat vintage-modern party sound.

Panama Cardoon - "Joshua" - (3:27) 100 BPM
Review: The latest in this series of releases from the Greek label sees a mix of mashed up hip hop and jazz, such as on the Balkan swing of Palov's "That's All Folks" and Doctor Stereo's "Let's Begin The Show". Also well worth checking out is Monetrik's soul gem "Barbeque".

Smugdruggler - "Rays Acid Punch" - (3:32) 129 BPM
Space Invaders - "Don't Mean A Ting" - (5:30) 136 BPM
Panama Cardoon - "Shingaling" - (3:00) 115 BPM Hot
Dirty Dubsters - "Latin Lighter" - (4:21) 125 BPM
Review: This EP from the Dirty Dubsters camp executes a single idea incredibly well: to apply electro-swing rhythms and production techniques to a bunch of old Latin records, be they Brazilian mambos, Cuban stompers or punchy sambas. The results are very floor-friendly, with just the right balance between the horn-heavy, Latino authenticity of the source material and the contemporary beats, breaks and effects. All four tracks appear 'tried and tested' and sound like they could create pandemonium if dropped at the right time. If we had to pick a highlight, it would probably be the gritty, breathless opener from Smugdruggler - though Panama Cardoon's Tito Puente-ish "Shingaling" isn't far behind.
