Review: "It's about the funky deep house vibe, bro," screams the press release accompanying Deeppa Records' new compilation, which brings together unheard tracks from label regulars and "new talents". There's much to admire across the nine tracks on show, from the shuffling, jazz-sampling dustiness of Darryl Balaki's 'Cherry Finns' and the lolloping, starry-eyed loveliness of Jehan's similarly sample-heavy 'Control', to the flute-sporting dancefloor breeze of St Paul's 'Magic Flute', the shuffling St Germain style jazz-house flex of DFRA's 'Jazz Is Revolutionary', and the thickset, dreamy deep house excellence of 'We Met For Real' by Wearing Shoes, whose fluid piano solos and colourful pads recall the halcyon days of Italian dream house.

Review: On its launch in the spring of 2021, Deeppa Records framed the Perfect Duality series of multi-artist EPs as a showcase for quality deep house in all its different iterations. That subtle eclecticism remains at the heart of volume three. Compare and contrast, for example, the quietly colourful fusion of analogue synth-bass, P-funk flavoured keyboard solos and tactile pads of 'Vague L'Arme' by Sarewa's Project and the loopy, loved-up, disco-tinged warmth of Paul Cut's 'Tropica'. The quality threshold remains high throughout, with further highlights coming from Chouba, Novaj and Groove Boys Project (the outer-space grooves and elongated jazz-funk solos of 'Strictly Jazz Haze') and Sadie Blanc (the head-nodding, hip-hop-jazz of 'Icing On The Cake').

Review: More dusty and distinguished deep house from the D.K.O crew, this time courtesy of longtime family member and sometime Ondule Recordings artist Paul Cut. Our pick of a very strong bunch is "Milky Way", an enveloping synth-laden drift through far-off galaxies underpinned by off-kilter broken house drums and a soul-warming bassline. There's plenty of fine fodder to be found elsewhere across the EP though, from the jazzy, sample-heavy bounce of lead cut "My Dear Deer", to the woozy, pitched-downn head-nod of hip-hop tempo shuffler "Think Twice". "Take Off", a groovy chunk of skipping late night deep house warmth, is also pretty darn good.

Review: Reliable deep house/jazz fusionist Paul Cut returns to Popcorn following last year's fine sojourn on D.KO. He gets down to business straight away with the swinging broken house rhythms, fluid piano lines and elastic bass of "Brooklyn Lady", before smothering a rolling deep house groove in smoky Rhodes solos on the Flabaire co-produced "Lou Chang". There's a slightly more driving feel to "Unity", whose swirling backing vocal samples and tumbling chord progressions make it sound like a cross between bumpin' Chicago deep house, Pepe Bradock's "Deep Burnt" and Floating Points. Leo Pol provides the obligatory remix of that track, pushing up the tempo while offering an all round deeper and sweeter vibe.

Review: We've not heard from Paul Cut since last summer and our dancefloors have been all the poorer as a result. Now he's back to bring a little more of his production sparkle over four new jams. "Bassment Jam" seamlessly blends a breaky cut-up of Jungle Boogie with some pretty deep and warped filtered house. Elsewhere "Is It" is exquisitely dreamy cloud-surfing house, "Else" is a terse old-skool funky house joint, and "About That" is pulsating disco-boogie heaven (also reworked into even funkier dimensions by Joss Moog).
