Review: Bringing the jack without an ounce of hesitation, Clone regular Paul Du Lac is in the mood to dance on this new single for the equally box-jam friendly Bio Rhythm imprint. "Spank (Techno Mix)" is as forthright a floor-burner as you could ever wish for, all dizzying drum machines, rapid fire vocal murmurs and ominous bass that brings the heat like it's 1988. "Backstreet Boy" is even more stripped down, letting the beat do the talking with barely any other decoration to divert from the rhythmic command. "Who's The Mack" meanwhile goes in a touch slower, but still the emphasis is on restraint and groove rather than any showy compositional dynamics.

Review: Bio Rhythm boss Paul Du Lac makes a welcome return to Clone's all conquering Jack For Daze initiative, some three years after dropping the incendiary Blowback 12". From the opening "Set IT Off" style bars of the title track, it's overtly clear Du Lac is in Jack For Daze appropriate mode, slamming down bumping rhythm on top one another whilst playfully laying down a detuned key line, making for the label's most unhinged homage to the days of Dancemania since Geeeman's "Rubberband2" a few years back. "Spaces Below" comes from a deeper place, with growling synth lines and textures expanding across the channels as Du Lac works the drum machines to the bone and "Tantra Master" sees submarine FX thrown around the lower depths as the Rotterdam resident gets tantric with the groove.

Review: Recorded last year and selected from "a six-month period of weekly studio sessions in self-medicational [sic] hyper-focus mode", this release explains why Du Lac is one of the unsung heroes of Dutch house and techno. "Gut Elixer" starts the release in hyperactive mode, with flailing snares and brooding bass imagining a dark, modern take on Chicago house. In contrast, "Snake Funk" is stripped back and reduced, while on "Ganzfeld Cookie", Du Lac heads back to the nervous percussive ticks and crashing drums of "Elixer". Rounding off this abstract but effective release is "Bot (Westside Genesis mix)" . It sees Du Lac change focus somewhat with robust break beats, but the same twitchy percussion prevails.
