Review: When it first launched, Tilly Jam was merely a vehicle for the admirable and generally very enjoyable works of Till Von Sein. These days though the imprint has far loftier ambitions and offers up regular doses of musical goodness from other like-minded producers. The latest to join Tilly's gang is Paul Rudder, who serves up a seriously good EP. The headline attraction is undoubtedly 'Summer Rain', a bluesy and bumping deep house cut smothered in sampled harp sounds, sweeping chords and glassy-eyed vocal samples. Scott Diaz provides a more beefed-up, bassline-driven dub for those looking for something chunkier and more energetic. Elsewhere, 'Things To Tell You' is a warming, jazz-fired afternoon deep house delight and 'Is This Art (Lofi Touch)' is a slamming slab of cut-up house haziness.

Review: Shall Not Fade has reached the ripe old age of eight, a cause for celebration in these troubled times for artists and labels. To mark the occasion, the Bristol-based imprint has offered up this vast, 34-track compilation featuring new and unheard cuts from its ever-expanding family of artists. Naturally, it not only reflects Shall Not Fade's output, but also that of its various offshoots and series. So, there's plenty of high-grade deep house and immersive, breakbeat-driven deepness, but also surging, high-tempo rave-era nostalgia (see the tracks by TESTPRESS and Sheffield sorts Adelphi Music Factory), bassline (ABSOLUTE & HRSN), futurist techno (Marc Brauner), deep electro (Halo), hip-hop revivalism (Lydia Eisenbatter), progressive house and trance-influenced loveliness (MNL), and much more besides.

Review: Shall Not Fade's annual birthday compilations are always worth a look, not least because they tend to be packed with plenty of previously unreleased material from label regulars, friends and newcomers. This seventh birthday edition - the label's fifth compilation in total - is another epic, with 28 high quality tracks jostling for your attention. The track listing reflects the label's eclectic but largely dancefloor-focused approach, with highlights including the stomping big room techno darkness of Alan Fitzpatrick and Reset Robot's 'Alpha', the organ-rich New Jersey style peak-time house bump of Lis Sarocca's 'Oasis Floor', the bumpin' speed garage revivalism of 'All The Girls' by Main Phase, the warped, MC-sporting two-step wobble of Killjoy and Kwam's 'Active', and the deep and dreamy breaks/two-step fusion of 'Overcome' by Adam BFD.

Review: Following a brief sojourn on DOBRO, Paul Rudder continues his run of quietly impressive EPs on Shall Not Fade, which began with 2020's rather good Losing Dreams. He starts in stunning fashion this time round with 'Night Ocean', a bouncy and rolling slab of glassy-eyed deep house futurism smothered in shimmering si-fi synths, before opting for a slightly more bright, bubbly and rubbery sound on 'Unknown Future'. 'Storm Pattern' is an enveloping, ultra-deep excursion blessed with a locked-in, dub-fired deep house groove, while 'Variable Star' is a more sub-heavy slab of picturesque dancefloor deepness. He concludes with 'Goodbye Planet', a hypnotic drift into the kind of womb-like, after-hours fare we've long associated with DJ Sprinkles.

Review: Rising star Paul Rudder returns to Shall Not Fade following fine outings on Berg Audio, Exploited Ghetto and House On Wax, this time with fellow one-to-watch Kresy in town. The pair deliver a pair of collaborative cuts: the warming, piano-rich old school US house optimism of 'Dance Like Forever' and the chunkier and more energetic - but no less loved-up or nostalgic 'Floating Penthouse'. Kresy also delivers two revisions of the latter tune, first re-framing it is a deep acid house bubbler before beefting up the beats and reaching for ambient techno sounds on the driving and ear-pleasing 'Uplifting Version'. As if that wasn't enough to se the pulse racing, Rudder's two solo excursions - the deep and loved-up 'Inside U' and the piano-driven rush of 'Dreamin' About' - are also ace.

Review: Having really enjoyed Paul Rudder's recent EPs on RDR, Tilly Jam and Flat White Records, we're rather excited by his Shall Not Fade label debut. Happily, he hasn't let us down. Rudder begins by channelling the spirit of exuberant, early '90s Italian piano house on the rushing revivalism of 'Mind Drifting', before exploring the deeper, more organ-rich sound of 90s New Jersey house and garage on the arguably even better 'Losing Dreams'. 'Ah You Know' is a slightly more rugged and bouncy affair featuring squelchy acid bass, while 'Experience' is tougher and chunkier but no less sweaty. Finally, old pal Hurlee once more lends a hand on 'Till You Found', a seductive, early morning house number that reminded us a little of Chez Damier's mid-90s work.

Review: On the label's latest compilation of recent releases, overlooked treats and previously unreleased gems, Lazy Days Recordings is showcasing the more sun-splashed and summery end of the imprint's frequently gorgeous output. Naturally, there's plenty to set the pulse racing throughout, from the throbbing mid-tempo deep house disco of Milton Jackson and Ski Oakenfull's 'Got To Find' and the P-funk-flavoured sun-down deepness of Art of Tones' sublime remix of 'Rusty Lewis' by Beau Zwart, to the hypnotic, low-slung and dubbed-out peak-time brilliance of Manuel Sagahun's 'Kick To Flip' and the gorgeous soulfulness of Matt Masters' 'I've Opened My Eyes'. As you'd expect, there are also quite a few killer contributions from label co-founder Fred Everything, including a fine collaboration with fellow deep house veteran Atjazz ('Stay a Little While').

Review: To mark 15 years of the Lazy Days Recordings label he established with Mike Fresco in 2005, Canadian deep house legend Fred Everything has decided to release a trilogy of celebratory compilations, each of which focuses on a specific five-year block. This one celebrates the best material released on the label over the last five years (2015-2020), delivering thrills by the barrowload. Everyone will have their own highlights, but our picks of an extremely strong bunch include the early Larry Heard style warmth of Lance DiSardi's 'Field Recording', the early morning shuffle of Fred Everything's 'Someone Like You', the rushing piano house revival of Fred Everything and Shur-I-Kan's glassy-eyed 'Until Then', and the glacial, tech-tinged goodness of Martin Iveson's 'Leave Me Here'.

Review: As the title makes perfectly clear, the latest compilation from Mike Fresco and Fred Everything's Lazy Days Recordings label offers up a wealth of new and old reworks from the imprint's sizable vaults. Fred Everything is naturally prominent throughout both as remixer - see the distinctive takes on cuts by OJPB (a sun-flecked Afro-house revision of "Bridgetown's Pyramid") and Art of Tones (a lushly deep and dreamy remix of "Koniokola") - and original artist (check Sphiwe Caz-Miz's deep, dusty and woozy tweak of "Searching" and Ian Pooley's bright and breezy revision of "Silverlight"). Elsewhere Jimpster steals the show with a superb version of Martin Iveson's "Leave Me Here", Hot Toddy gets discofied on his LLorca remix and the Revenge weighs in with a jaunty, synth-heavy house rework of Art of Tones' "Unstopped").

Review: Deep house from the organic side is the order of the day on this latest offering from Fred Everything's Lazy Days stable. 'Sun Rising' itself is presented in two mixes: Rudder's original opens with intricate hand percussion, then slowly introduces piano chords before the live-sounding bassline and midtempo 4/4s arrive, followed by mournful trumpets and barely-there female vocal snips. Till Von Sein takes a slightly more floor-friendly route on his remix, stripping out some of the layers of live instrumentation and letting the trumpet, in particular, shine through more clearly. The contemplative, jazz-leaning 'Spent With Her' completes the EP.
