Review: Mysticisms presents Dubplate, a series of (sporadic) releases to showcase the blurring of genres between breaks, house and dub, even techno, wrapped around and within that oft-misunderstood take on digital reggae, the sound of Digidub. To begin, label favourite Persian acts as selector, with 5 rare archive cuts that typify the producer and sound of the series. From the digital dubbing of Dunya - here in a previously unreleased extended mix - to the warped groove and monster bass of D Dub Retwist, this unique link between rave, breaks and sound system culture is clear. As always Persian aka Peter Reilly, moves across styles with ease, offering the warm roots vibrations of Jacob Dub and Augustus, alongside title cut Space Within Art, here in dubplate mix, a street soul breakbeat and sampledelic mash up, all touched with the heavy hand of dub. An open expression within a loose framework, Dubplate #1 acts as guide and educator. Where cultures clash, morph and grow, embracing the diaspora through music; Arabic melody meets Jamaica riddim meets English hedonism in a Soundclash. Digi the Mystery.

Review: Persian, the man who launched the label in 2017 returns, again offering classics from the archive tapes in the Garage bounce of Feel Da Vibe and the Jungle tinged Silver Spaceships. Since appearing on Acetate 10" back in (where were you in) '92, Persian, Persian Prince or Artist Formerly Known As PP, aka Peter Riley, has been following his own path, breaking ground with self released, slabs of dynamite wax. Delivering a myriad of styles, from Breaks to House, Digidub to Jungle, here, as with MYS001, the original masters were handed to contemporaries to work their magic. Brother Nebula is a secret non de plum of a producer who has been around long enough to know the score, switching continents and releasing music on a myriad of labels before setting up his new Legwork label, creating a fresh wave.
The respectful but wonderful spacial dub house remake of the anthem Feel Da Vibe builds perfectly before snaps bring it back down to Earth. Alphonse (Especial / Klasse Wrecks) however, heads for the heavens with an expanse of floating percussion that explores the line between Breaks and Jungle to move Silver Spaceships in to a new decade.

Review: To keep your Emotional Response / Rescue, Platform 23 and Sacred Summit catalogues up to date here comes a new release from the Mysticisms label - aka Piers Harrison and Stuart Leath's experimental house music domain. Extending the run of Japanese duo Afrobudda with a new mix of their percussive heavy track "Obame", the EP heads into more discernible deep house territory with some glittering synths and underwater grooves by Asian Psilocybe Foundation's "Wave Control". That takes up place next to the dank and experimental flutes, toy tones and playheap atmospheres of Vertigo Inc's "Numbers", but it's arguably Jonny Rock's 'Slightly Tingled Worrior edit' of Persian that causes the biggest stir here through a beatdown and slamming reggaeton house jam. So good.

Pauline Anna Strom - "In Flight Suspension" - (7:45) 106 BPM
Review: Shanti Celeste is your selector for this third instalment in the compilation series from the Croatian festival of the same name. The eclecticism of the Bristol native's DJ sets is renowned and that's more than adequately reflected here, with cuts ranging from the footwork/electro of Paco Pack's 'Slap That Bass' to the slo-mo, lo-fi electronica of Seekers International's 'FurdaMurda', and from the spaced-out disco-house of Fade 2 End's 'Feel The Magic', via the lavish Detroit techno of Cari Lekebusch's 'Output 2.1', to near-ambient closer 'InFlight Suspension' from US 80 synth-botherer Paulina Anna Strom. One thing's for certain - you're not going to get bored!

Review: Peter Riley's back story as Persian reaches back to the early 90s - his back catalogue of crucial, sought after deep house cuts is a must-grip for any serious digger of globetrotting grooves. [Emotional] Especial taps up this vaunted producer's archives to present two of the finest productions he's ever committed to wax. "Khaab" is a subtly bumping jam with gorgeous square wave bass, smoky pads and evocative vocal trysts. "Parvaaneh" is a spacier cut that puts the bass front and centre and does away with the drums, making for a powerful, atmospheric statement to create tension mid-set. Project Runaway remix "Khaab" in a respectful, immersive fashion, and Alphonse nudges "Parvaaneh" into a dense and chugging roller.

Morning Sun (DJ Normal 4 remix) - (6:54) 131 BPM Hot
Review: Given his status as an original 1990s hardcore and jungle producer, Peter "Persian" Riley has more right than most to ride the current wave of breakbeat-driven, loved-up deep house productions. Interestingly, Riley's latest 12" opens with a blissfully melodious and squeezable chunk of dreamy deep house (albeit one that boasts a soulful reggae style vocal and some breakbeat shuffle within the drum machine grooves), before the pitched-down jungle breaks come to the fore on brilliant, string-laden B-side "Morning Sun", a shameless tribute to witnessing sunrise at an outdoor rave. The accompanying remixes are predictably good, too. First, Fit Siegel delivers a drowsy, tactile and subtly stripped-back rework of "We Should Shout", before DJ Normal goes full on early hardcore on his thrusting tweak of "Morning Sun".

Review: Jungle veteran Persian has been enjoying a renaissance of sorts lately, what with his new imprint Existence Is Resistance re-issuing lost classics and newies too. This EP's a mixed bag of styles, "Chinease Spare Ribs" features a lively electro dub bassline, a stomping breakbeat and some pretty amusing movie samples. Conversely, "Get Down", is a chirpy disco house excursion featuring the soul infused vocals of Nicola Duncan. Things wrap up though with a more typical sound for Persian, that being sparse jungle beats and low throbbing bass over a nice, lovely dub riddim taking us right back to a summer, somewhere in the mid 90s.

Review: Persian has been dropping Jungle bombs since the early 90s via his Existence Is Resistance imprint. Here he revisits his '95 monster, "Dangerous" in three different styles (the housey original is also included). First up is his own 're-fix', which retains those luscious Metalheadz-era Jungle pads with a bouncier, contemporary beat. DJ Texta works his magic on his dubstep mix, boasting some mighty big bass sounds and dubby effects. Finally Nick Dunton's mix is a deep and sprawling synth epic, and possibly the standout tune of the whole release.

Feel Da Vibe (A-Side) - (5:19) 126 BPM Hot
Murderous Style (B-Side) - (7:37) 138 BPM
Review: Persian's "Feel Da Vibe" was both a highlight of Four Tet's superlative entry into the FabricLive canon, and one of its rarer tracks. Hebden himself claims it was only included after a Discogs seller agreed to send him a vinyl rip of the original white label, having had no luck in sourcing the record himself. Upon release, such was the repeated and widespread clamour for "Feel Da Vibe" to get a proper release, Persian has now emerged with a new label, Existence is Resistance which re-released Feel Da Vibe on vinyl. Now it gets a digital release with a new track, "Murderous Style", a breakbeat jungle companion to the 2-step garage of the title track, complete with bassline squelch, keys and vocals which take you right back to '92. Recommended!
