Review: It's been a while since we heard the once much-sampled vocal from Raze's 'Bass Power', but here it comes again courtesy of Wolverhampton lad Lee Perry, AKA Peza, who marries it to glacial, bleepy Italo synths and hard-hitting 80s electronic drums to create the title track 'Bass Doctor'. Elsewhere on the EP, squelchy electro-disco workout 'Aeiou' borrows from Freeez classic 'IOU', albeit not as heavily as you might expect, while 'Planet Cars' is a heavyweight electro jam that, as the title suggests, lifts from both Gary Numan's 'Cars' and Afrika Bambaataa's 'Planet Rock'. Three solid cuts whose familiar samples should ensure maximum floor appeal.

Review: Every 12 months, Fingerman's prolific Hot Digits imprint serves up an epic compilation entirely made up of exclusive, previously unheard re-edits, reworks and original productions. They're invariably excellent and this year's edition - the fifth in total - is even more epic than usual. There's naturally plenty to set the pulse racing amongst the dancefloor focused 32-track selection, from the throbbing Italo-disco style electronic sleaziness of Peza's "I Gotta Little Love" and the bouncy, acid-flecked cheeriness of Limpdisco's "Rush Hour", to the angular nu-disco heaviness of Andy Kidd's "The Dope Cube", the sparkling 80s boogie goodness of LUP INO's "Don't Stop Fooling" and and disco-funk-goes-house pump of Fingerman's "Family Ties". Keep an eye out too for rock solid rubs by Dr Packer, Chuggin Edits, Rayko and Andy Buchan.

Review: Situationism is run by a mysterious 'collective of DJs and producers from the five valleys'. Although little is revealed about their identities, we do know that this compilation is their biggest release yet and it boasts the mighty "On It" by Peza. The track's clever fusion of a boogie sample (Starguard's High On The Boogie) and some subtle 303 work has got people talking and dancing already. The quality stays high over the remaining tracks too, highlights including George Kelly's melancholic Italo gem, "Trip to Jupiter", Vampire Disco's moody synth prowler "Orbit" and the chilled cocktail grooves of Alkalino's "Trigger".

Review: York-based soul/funk label claims "we make what we like in headphones come out the big speakers" and we like the way they think! There's a who's who on here who give credit to the edit. The Perth, Australia legend that is Greg "Dr." Packer features with the funky "Shane's Got The Power" and teams up with Mr Rhodes on "Comin' Off" which is a smoother ride on the soul train. Fellow Aussie Casual Connections serves us with boogie vibes of "Your Love" while loveable pranksters Alfa Flite give us the smooth re-edit of soul queen Sade on "Nothing" among others.

Review: If you weren't aware already, Yam Who? is one ambitious, tirelessly active chap. First emerging at the turn of the century with some superb edits of poppy R n'b (anyone remember his boogie take on "Frontin" by Pharrell?) the Yam master has gone on to build quite the empire with his Midnight Riot label. The latest MR release reflects his nature, a new mix featuring 20 killer rollerskate jams from friends as well as some outright classics. Highlights include the glistening, chrome-plated funk of George Kelly's "Turn It Up", the sleek and synthy 80s jam "Living A Lie" by Freekwency and the slammin Linn drum freestyle action of "On The Upside (High Drummer edit)" by Wonkar.

Review: There's a reason that Midnight Riot's eponymous compilations frequently charge to the top of the Juno Download charts. Put simply, they never disappoint. This ninth installment sticks to the now tried-and-tested formula - house-friendly re-edits and originals from across the disco, boogie, soul and funk spectrum - but predictably hits the spot throughout. As usual, there's a bonus mix - this time put together by globe-trotting scalpel jockey Rayko - and tracks come from both label regulars ('80s Child, Ziggy Phunk, Chewy Funk) and an impressive array of new or unheralded talents. It's in the latter category that you'll find some of the most impressive fare - see Phil Jaimes deliciously Balearic "Nowhere To Hide" and Cosmocomics' kaleidoscopic synth-funk jam "Mary Jane" - though the standard remains pleasingly high throughout.

Review: Hailing from Wolverhampton, up and coming producer Lee Perry might well have been confused for the legendary dub producer were it not for a wise adoption of a pseudonym. He last surfaced on Magic Feet serving up a split release with Rich Lane, but this time he's going it alone with a cheeky remix that will appeal to anyone who was actively digging into the golden years of Britpop. Mansun's "Wide Open Space" was arguably their biggest hit, and Perry takes a careful approach that lays a warm, throbbing disco bedrock underneath Paul Draper's haunting vocals which should slide smoothly into any warm-up situation.

Review: Over his short career to date, Peza has attracted some notable DJ support, with Yam Who, Greg Wilson, Andrew Weatherall and Optimo all supporting his releases. Dicky Trisco is a fan, too, and has previously released Peza cuts on Audiodiscotheque. Here he brings him to the Maxi Discs label, unleashing the synth-heavy original production "Mekon". Undoubtedly positive and Balearic in outlook, the track blends electrofunk-era synthesizer motifs and Reverso 68 style saucer-eyed electronics with just the right amount of dancefloor-friendly, Italo-influenced midtempo chug. Pete Herbert and Dicky Trisco once again join forces to provide a notable remix, with the veteran duo emphasizing the track's more chugging elements whilst retaining a tactile, saucer-eyed feel.

Review: Craig Bratley's Magic Feet label has been putting out some pretty impressive Balearic mood bombs for a good few years now, and here's the evidence, its first label compilation. We don't know if the title, Now That's Magic", is an obscure nod to Paul Daniels or not, but there's no smoke and mirrors with the array of artists collected here. Highlights include Rich Lane's doomy take on new beat classic "Flesh", Dark Strand's Bobby-O-on-downers gem, "Return Of The Oscillator and Antoni Maiovi's killer sleazy electro disco jack-a-thon, "Megametropolis".

Review: Peza is a shady re-edit hero, whose previous releases have created all kinds of a stir in the disco world. This latest EP, Subway, for the esteemed Midnight Riot, has already notched up some serious pre-release support from the likes of Andy Weatherall and Horse Meat Disco. One listen to the four tracks included here and you can tell why - we get everything from some slowed-down Eurythmics ("Stranger") to the deep and spacey funk grooves of "You Ain't Never" via the female disco/clavinet interface funk of "Do You Have Any?".

Review: Staffordshire's Rich Lane made some serious waves recently with slo-mo Balearic bomb "Shelves" getting serious plays from the likes of Emperor Machine and Tronik Youth. For his latest release (on a split EP) he's chosen to present a cool, linear re-edit of A Split Second's 1986 classic "Flesh" - originally a faster punk record, it famously gave birth to Belgian New Beat when DJs played it at 33rpm and slowed to -8. Also included is returning '90s hero Peza (Lee Perry) with a reworked version of No More Nightmares - now stripped back to a slow acidic chugger.

Review: The nu-disco world loves a good split EP and here's another, this time from the Hot Digits crew. First up is re-edit champion Fingerman, whose "Norman's Disco" is nine minutes of swirling bass twisting retro funk fun. Elsewhere we get more elongated funk joints on Dr Packer's "Feel Like Dancing" and Pontchartrain's "Funk Down", whilst Peza decides to slip Harlequin Four's electro classic "Set It Off" some nasty acid for some bonkers party action.
