Review: Bringing new talent to the forefront once more, Fokuz push young upstart Phase to do his worst alongside French superduo Kantyze. Phase recently released on Demand Records, so he's no stranger to the scene. Just as well really, as the first track is a no-holds-barred dark and deadly stormer right from the start from Igor and Fred. Second track "First Impressions" is actually strangely impressionistic, with its moody piano and dampened sound - a rainy day in sub and snares form. Both perfect D&B tunes from opposite ends of the spectrum.

Review: Token has sensibly made all of the tracks from Kr!z debut commercial mix available in an unmixed format. The Belgian label has put out a wide range of music, and its owner represents its diversity well on this selection. With the inclusion of Xhin's twisted, abstract rhythms, the plaintive ambience of Inigo Kennedy's 'Obsidian' and Surgeon's electro take on Grovskopa's "Sex & Violins", the compilation shows the label's reflective side. However, Token is first and foremost a dance floor label and Introspective includes the insane drones of Ctrl's "Sockets", Rodhad's spooky "Spomeniks", the glacial trance of Inigo Kennedy's "Cathedral" and the deranged tonal assault that is Makaton's "Endless Revolt".

Following opuses from the like of Mikal, Blocks & Escher and Agzilla, the Belgian talent whips up a creative storm that ranges from the hard rave KOs of 'Stress Out' to the wonderful ambient bliss of 'Flowstone' and back again. Essential.

Review: Phase is a Dutch talent who's been doing big things for a few years now, releasing on some of the best labels in the biz and generally being an all-round top guy. His second full-length outing on Metalheadz is here and it's a masterclass in how to balance hard-edged, tough sonics with a sense of sophistication and retrospection. It reminds us a lot of Grey Code's EP at the start of the year and we love it. 'Devotion' features HLZ and is the roller of the bunch, with spacious sampling and wispy pads nailing the breadth, whilst a driving percussive line and subtle yet forceful bass notes nail the depth. Outstanding.

Review: Last spotted on Headz with Villem for "The Traveller" EP, Belgian rising talent Phase gets his first solo EP on the mothership imprint and he's gone to town on the EP. "Malice" lives up to its name with a layers of toxic acid bass and a riff that sounds straight out of a mid 90s F.A.C.T-era Carl Cox set, "Stakes", meanwhile rolls out on a rare, trembling, barbed and paranoid vibe where the pads do all the destruction; red planet exploration business, this is really is marvellously moody. Deeper again we're plunged into the darkest of tunnels with a subtle symphonic touch on "Unground" while Zero T joins for the finale with the creeped-out "The Inbetween". Unhurried in its menace, it doesn't even kick in until a minute and half deep - just the way we like it. With "Stakes" as well done as these, we suspect Phase will be cooking at the Headz kitchen again very soon.

Review: Young Belgian Phase makes his Warm Comms debut with three tracks that belie his 20 years on the planet... "A Different Space" takes you back to early Critical cuts thanks to its uptempo step arrangement, two note drone bass and timestretched amens on the fills. "Sunrise Technology" takes a Klute-strength telescope to see further into the cosmos while "Eternal Truth" brings us back to planet earth with a dreamier melodic structure, cymbal-splashing jungle breaks and a sub that bounces harder than a politician's promises. Serious heat for a new producer.

Review: It's not often we see Ashley Burchett try his had at ambient or experimental productions, so it's about time we did. "Medlab" introduces this EP, and for its brief 40 seconds it sounds like a purring space shuttle combing the outer-limits of an unknown galaxy. It sets the tone for the serious "Burden Of Proof"; although looping to infinity, its musical elements do vary to a point of actually being musical. "Out-last", the second of four ambient tracks, rattles and bends like a creaking door in an echo-chamber inside of a sunken submarine, while there's something sonically dismantled about the warped sounds on "Construct Of The Mind". Fans of Spherical Coordinates on Token will warm to the cool, dark and mysterious jungle sounds of the EP's title track, while Phase delivers what he does best in "Systems Theory". Something different from Phase and something new from Token.

Review: More often spotted cooking up sickness stews with McLeod, Villem tag teams with Belgian deepsmith Phase. The result is every bit as spotless, crisp and alluring as you want it to be. Soulful but barbed with the right balance of darkness, each cut trembles but punches: Steo adds emotional sparkles to "Thru My Soul", "The Traveller" soothes with K&D era pads before dropping into a Break-style elastic bass groove while "Kaikol" plays the cosmic card with its mystic instruments and drawn out notes. Of course McLeod shows his face too. And he does so on the beautiful "Reap What You Sow" where absolute bliss drops into total jungle dungeonism.

Review: Oh gosh. Total Science ante up for the summer with this exceptional V/A EP on their CIA imprint. Kicking off with a crucial new remix of their classic "Nosher" by their new hybrid gang comprising themselves, DLR and Hydro, full breadth and variation abounds as we dip into the gilded soul of Zero T & Phase's "Talk To Me", the gnarled grizzles and dubby danger of their own "Devil's Gate" with Scar member Script and the grand finale; a heavyweight purring roller from two of the most respected newcomers in the game right now: Ill Truth and SATL. Each one a persy for different chapters of the night, any further information is classified.
