Review: More funked-up disco loops than you can shake an MPC at here, courtesy of Parisian specialists Robsoul. Label chez Phil Weeks taking up the reins and showing us hows it's done, as always. On the That House Groove EP, he serves up four examples of straight up boompty business - from the lo-slung shuffle of the title track (which features a bit 303 acid for good measure), as does the following track "Extra Dry" but this one's far more of a late night/heads down affair for basement parties. We particularly enjoyed the sexy, late night mood lighting of end track "Get On Up" which nails that classic deep house aesthetic just perfectly.

Review: Something tells us that this compilation isn't about smoking mere tobacco. Perhaps it's the green-eyed bad boy on the cover brandishing a suspiciously plump 'roll up'. Or maybe it's simply because of the hazy, lazy and groovy 70s vibes contained within. Robsoul Essential has managed to overcome the munchies, get off the couch and actually find nine expert reworks of old disco joints. Highlights include the bleary eyed, organic hip-hop beats of "This Is What It Is" by Homequest, the deep, heady loops of "Six Flags" by Chris Carrier and the bonged-out neo-soul of "Mondae".

Review: Right from the tip of his top hat, Eats Everything has got serious beef with us... And we couldn't be happier about it. Taking Weeks' 2014 Holloway-belting thumper and ramping the dickens out of every clattering snare roll and chugging kick, Eats' take on "It's Inside That Counts" rattles and hums with subtle edit craft. Retaining everything that's great about the original (and the samples Weeks used) this hits every dancefloor spot imaginable. Tip!

Review: Parisian house gangster and all round unstoppable force Phil Weeks is back: on Robsoul of course! With Raw Instrumental 2 be prepared for some rough and raw, looped up shenanigans that all wear the unmistakable grit of the Akai MPC on them. Starting off in fine form with the deep down and dirty jack of "The Rhythm" or the brazen disco flava of "Can't Live Without Your Love" or the lo-slung funk dynamics of "Night Drive". There's fine form later on and throughout, such as on the fittingly titled "House Head" which really works that infectious sense of swing that the big white box does oh so well. We must also mention the gutsy closer "Excess" which works those dusty loops into a mighty crescendo just like the Chi-town master DJ Sneak could do back in the day.

Review: Since its inception, Steve Lawlor's Viva Music label, has played host to a ridiculous amount of top names on their way to the top. Now to celebrate the label's tenth birthday, Lawlor's amassed a selection of exclusive cuts from some of the biggest and best acts from his roster. Groove Armada are first, submitting the intricate tech-house bomb "Free At Last", with Phil Weeks following up with the boogie-lead "Come On Baby". Beyond that Harvard Bass submits the minimal animal "Peep Game" and Junior Sanchez drops the mesmerising glitchy attack "Which Way To Go". Can't wait for part two!

Review: Phil Weeks is without a doubt one the busiest people in the business, with a relentless release schedule on Robsoul that manages consistency, unleashing grooves of the funkiest, bumpiest and loopy variety, week in week out. It's time for another volume of Robsoul's Most Wanted, Vol 6 to be exact and it's an all-star affair as per usual! Highlights for us this time around weren't limited to: label mainstay Around 7 with the funky lo-slung groove that's fittingly titled "Word Of Low", Romanian wunderkind and rising star Guy From Downstairs with the thumping yet emotive soul jam "The Mesteacan", The Bosconi affiliated Minimono on the disco loops of "Buddy Now Buddy" and man of the moment Tommy Vicari Jnr with more quality as displayed on the simply uplifting "Pasci".

Review: Paris house badman Phil Weeks lands on us like a pile of bricks, thanks to his unsurprisingly effective and tooled-up four-to-the-floor made for maximum dance floor damage and minimal DJ mess-ups. The aptly named "On The Floor" is exactly the sort of grainy tech-house that we've always loved from the man and his Robsoul label - but the sweetest spot is that subtle disco magic that he always manages to infuse into his tracks. "Funk In Your Trunk" is also utterly on-brand and, just as it says on the description, it's a pure tool cut that manage to stay lively and interesting thanks to its rugged funk slapbass, while "Be With You" goes much deeper into the depths of house, and filters in a sublime jazzy touch for extra weight.

Review: Phil Weeks' notorious Robsoul Recordings is back with another long awaited volume of Most Wanted: Volume 4 to be exact. All the usual suspects are back to provide some seriously looped out and funked up beats which are worthy arsenal for any serious house DJs CDJs. Highlights are not just limited to: fellow Parisian legends Chris Carrier with the sexy "Inner Activist", DJ W!ld's signature discofied soul stylings on "All About You" and not forgetting D'julz "Ze Box" which perfectly sounds like the City of Lights after midnight. Honorable mentions also to UK legend Nail who serves up the balearic beats of "Say Whut?" and head honcho himself Phil Weeks teaming up with Windy City legend Mike Dunn on "We Need House".

Review: Robsoul head honcho and all round Parisian legend Phil Weeks is back with the seventh edition of Essential Beats and as always it certainly lives up to its name. Let's face it; he's up there with the likes of DJ Sneak when it comes to funky disco loops and these are a serious addition to any serious house DJ's sonic arsenal. There's some typically funky and soulful cyclicality by the man, on such gems as "A Woman Alone" or "Pacman's Revenge" whereas "I Can Make U Dance" or "Love 2 Love" get techy and sleazier. We particularly liked the closer "Natural High" which shows a tougher side to his productions - this gutsy groove can really bang the party! Might we add that there's a lot of familiar loops through these tracks that he's borrowed and utilised brilliantly.

Review: Bang bang! It's Phil Weeks o'clock, and that means quality house music all-round. The Parisian badman is up on his own excellent Robsoul with three new floor-melters: "Paris 2.0" dusts its wings to and fro amid disco-minded trumpets and brass, while "Upper Zone" takes a similar sort of drum groove but speeds it over a glitchy, pacman array of bleeps with a minimal edge. "City Of Love", however, takes care of the hypnotics by swaying a fluid groove between intricate folds of bass that grow and shrink at a constant pace. Lovely gear, as usual from Mr. Weeks.

Review: Phil Week's Robsoul imprint launches its new Robsoul Edits series, inaugurated by up and coming Frenchman Around7. To quote Phil Weeks himself "whether its reworking for the dancefloor, tweaking for your tastebuds or looking to inject a new freshness to the funk, the best edits are always remembered". Highlights include edits of Dave Dubbz "Lost In The Past" which sounds like DJ Sneak circa Sneaky Trax II, Parisian DJ W!ld's deep groove "Disco & Shit" and probably one of the most needed edits of all: a splice up of Lorenzo's classic "Get Deep" from 2006. Nail of UK legends Bent also appears; Around7's edit of his track "Sweet Feet" from last year gets a pretty decent re-rub too, we must say.

Review: Parisian legend and Robsoul Recordings boss Phil Weeks is back on the scene with a full length album - and we're very interested! It's a mixed bag on Pimpin' Aint Easy and testament to his broad range of musical influences over the years. After the hip hop intro of the title track, it's business as usual from Weeks, showing us some acid, some smooth deep house on "We Need House" featuring Mike Dunn and some funky vocal led jams like on the tremendous "Funky Music" featuring the always brilliant Peven Everett. There's the typical sound more commonly associated with Weeks like on the track "A Man Needs a Woman" but also does some straight up Detroit techno on tracks like "Tension".

Review: There has been a strong influx of material from Phil Weeks on his own Robsoul label this year, and the jams just keep on coming as this sure shot of chunky tech house goodness crosses our path. Keen eared downtempo heads may well recognise the distinctive melodic hook that runs through "The Easy Way", but it's given a thoroughly different context in which to chime out amongst steadfast drums and some low-squelching acid bass. Joss Moog delivers a tidy edit of the track with a sharper accent on the housey qualities of the track for a subtly alternative dancefloor effect.

Review: French house master Phil Weeks makes no compromises and delivers the sixth instalment of the Essential Beats series, presented via his own legendary Robsoul Recordings. Much like the previous five outings, these eight tracks are a house jockey's dream, a bunch of funky yet deep cuts brimming with sublime samples and dusty percussive swings. "Bad Chance Went Thru My Mind" certainly stands out amongst the tunes, but we're also feeling the piano-led "Portrait In Jazz". Trust us, there ain't much of this kind of thing floating around, and Weeks does it best. Smokin'! For fans of Rick Wade, Mike Huckaby, Theo Parrish, Moodymann and the rest of the Detroit HOUSE collective.
