Review: For all you folks out there in radio land Warp Records is on the air with this WXAXRXP compilation pulling together an assortment of Warp artists playing Warp music on the radio. Whether it be earlier John Peel sessions or this June's WXAXRXP x NTS weekender, the tracks here provide a digital taster of what's inside a huge 10x12" boxset - designed by Michael Oswell with photography by Synchrodogs (maybe that means something to some of you). The essential who's who of Warp artists make their way to this digital compilation, with LFO signing in for a trippy piece of bleep funk alongside something mahogany and soulful from Flying Lotus, with classic strands of BOC melancholia not failing to miss out. Mount Kimbie's recent "You Look Certain (I'm Not So Sure)" feat Andrea Balency at this year's WXAXRXP Session is a highlight also next to Seelfeel's "Vex" recorded for a Peel Session back in the day.

Review: This is Plaid's first new material in two years, and their re-appearance sees the storied duo delivering a slightly heavier interpretation of electronic music compared to their past material. "Maru" is led by a stuttering, glitchy rhythm and ringing bells, but then the pair's penchant for seductive melodies hovers back into view, as sensuous electronic hooks are gradually introduced. "Recall" is more extreme as Handley and Turner tease out a doubled up groove that has echoes of label mates Autechre in its grainy drums and abstract, glitchy segues. Whether or not they will continue in this direction is not known, but it still makes for a fascinating side chapter in the Plaid story.

Review: Hot on the heels of Plaid's recent Digging Remedy album comes this new EP. "Ooyu" sounds like a big band sucked down an IDM wormhole with horns, woodwind and keys lit up by electronic melodies. "Rab" and "Odica" come closer to the typical Plaid sound; the former is a jittery, rattling rhythm underscored by gentle off-beats and chopped up melodies, while the latter is an abstract workout, populated by buzzing tones. The only track that sees the UK pair flirt with convention is the deep techno of "Elevator". Supported by a soaring bass, its intricately woven web of chiming melodies would put Efdemin to shame.

Review: Despite now being 25 years into their career, Plaid duo Ed Handley and Andy Turner show no signs of showing up. If The Digging Remedy - their 11th studio set - is anything to go by, their instincts remain as sharp as ever. They've always been capable of creating magical music that contrasts experimental electronic rhythms with picturesque melodies and mood-enhancing sounds, and The Digging Remedy is full of the stuff. Intriguingly, many of the tracks seem deeper and more subdued than previous explorations, with clear ambient and neo-classical influences amongst the classic electro and IDM flavours you'll find on the album's more up-tempo moments.
