Review: The fifth instalment in Kraftek's Monolith Series gets off to an intense start with Dale Fairbairn's "Arrakis". Powered by relentless drums, its euphoria inducing snare rolls and dramatic riffs are redolent of 90s tech trance. Shay de Castro's "Mapping the Heavens"and Luca Gaeta's "Universe of Emotion" both maintain this mood, but differ in approach, with bruising basslines and ponderous vocal samples prevailing. On "Lovedown", WNDLL edges closer to a more contemporary techno sound thanks to the utilitarian percussion that sweeps in over its gnarly rhythm. Meanwhile, label owners Pleasurekraft hand over "Last Sapien" for Jo Poole to reshape into a pounding, peak-time banger.

Review: Pleasurekraft follow their 2018 debut album with a deeper dive into the outer reaches of techno. Machines starts with the ambient textures and vocal samples of "Last Sapien", which shifts into a pulsating track midway through and the downtempo beats and traditional pipes and violins of "Nostalgic for the Future". These mood pieces set up the listener for dance floor tracks like the throbbing rhythm of "Hush" and the ominous bass and intense sirens of "Panopticon (The Patron Saint of Global Surveillance)". While there are some conceptual tracks like "The Occupant", Pleasurekraft's focus remains dance floor-focused as the epic builds of "I Sing the Body Electric" and the relentless "Corpse Reviver Number 3" both demonstrate.

Review: Pleasurekraft are a transatlantic duo comprised of American Kaveh Soroush - a DJ and producer from Washington DC who was also co-founder of Brandnewvibe Recordings, with Sweden's Kalle Ronngardh - a veteran producer since the early noughties. After a few dozen releases over the last decade, the duo finally unveil their first full length album. Friends, Lovers, & Other Constellations sees the duo consolidate their many years experience on their beloved Kraftek imprint, with this collection of epic and euphoric dance floor bombs. From brooding, peak time techno workouts such as "The Day The Earth Stood Still" or "Rigel" (which will appeal to fans of sounds on Drumcode or Suara), there are also moments of evocative trance like on "Interiors", dark ambient on "GOD/Gospel Of Doubt" (part 1 - feat Casey Gerald) and even a bit of synth-pop - like the blissful closer "Last Transmission" (From A Dying Constellation).
