Review: What an exciting project this was too open up as we see Tom Booze touch down on Bomb Strikes with a truly explosive compilation, hand-curated for maximum sonic impact. From start to finish this collection showcases the very best of the now in new school breakbeat, from the Asian-inspired string plucks of Lack Jemmon's 'Don't Stop' to the more dubstep inspired twists and grooves of YGT YGT YGT from Posij and the sizzling synthetics of The Funk Hunters & Kotek's rework of 'With You', originally from Haywyre'. The project is jam-packed with exciting creations, with heavyweights such as Krafty Kuts, PAV4N, A.Skillz, Fort Knox Five & more all providing hard hitting drops to make this one of the most powerful breakbeat compilations of the year.

Review: Posij is one of the several Dutch producers in the Noisia orbit who make weird and wonderful sounds, appearing on multiple of the soon-to-split trio's three labels. This time around its Vision and, in true Vision form, these four tunes are abstract but not overly so, with a grounding that D&B format we know so well. It's all about the sound design and the complexity here, and we especially love the pitched-up synth work on 'No Cats' and 'Nighthorse'. It's 'Bolt', however, which has really grabbed us and it's partly thanks to the insane drum work (that snare!) that ensconces a broader approach at nastiness, encapsulated by bass flourishes and sub wobbles. Top work.

Review: Posij hails from Groningen in the Netherlands and, fun fact, is actually related to Icicle. Groningen is also where Noisia and their Vision Recordings imprint is based, and this EP from the Dutchman ticks all their boxes: nasty, well-engineered and deeply futuristic. 'Derivative' is definitely derivative, in fact it's a really unique track that opens with a salvo of bongos but quickly turns and flips, ducking and diving between different hooks, melodies and tonal sounds. 'A Car That Cranks' creatively uses the sound of a car starting, before heading down a slightly more recognisable path: glitchy, techy D&B. Awesome EP.

Review: Again, we dive deep into the pools of the unknown with this one as we travel through the latest compilational offering from Worst Behavior, who bring forward a host of guests on their second official full release. The styles on the project vary, primarily however floating around the juke / footwork bracket. We see a host of names join the party here including the likes of A-0, Samurai Breaks, Harka, A.Fruit and Posij, forming a pretty strong roster indeed. Highlights for us have to include the twisted collaboratory flavours of DJ Madd & Jon1st's 'Roots Fashion' and the jungalistic spins of 'Saturn Bashment' from Walters.

Review: Inspected boot up the genetic life form machine for some artificial funk and fury courtesy of a rollcall that should have any self-respecting tech-bass head salivating. First up is Bristol free-thinker Culprate who flips his successful "Diablo" into a crafty halftime stamper. Skope dons his Mallux cap for a BSE-level neuro romp that's home to around ten different bass textures that all work in harmony. Deeper again we hit the real leftfield sages: Billain's "Specialist" tips a nod to the rave foundations before dropping into a raffish groove that gets subtly weirder and weirder as we progress while Posij gets animated with a zoo of rising tones and textures that seem to run out control before being reigned in again. 23rd century funk.

Review: Hot on the heels of their first V/A halftime/beats-based EP, Noisia's Division serves up another deliciously leftminded multi-artist EP. "Nomad" says it all; screwloose bass, haunted elements and an all-round alien vibe, Noisia and Mony/Poly have truly killed it. Other highlights include the screeched out craziness of Posij's "Grab The Cookies" and the rave breaks and garbled sample abuse Bleep Bloop's "Recombine". Seriously forward-thinking, let's hope these Division EPs continue for the foreseeable.

Review: What a year it's been for Shogun Audio: albums from Spectrasoul and Rockwell, new signing Karma, the epic Point Of Origin collection and killer singles from every artist on the roster. Here they wrap up the year with 34 bangers, blissers and blunderbusses. If you've been following the label you'll know just how heavy this weights in bass gold. If not, it's the best possible place to play catch up. From the Jenna G-fronted Submorphics chiller "The Divine" and the gospel-level heaven of Spectrasoul's "Shelter" to the much darker, thunderous slammers such as Friction and Icicle's "Crucifix", Fourward's "Exile" and Calyx & TeeBee's gamechanging remix of Spor's "Aztec", this is a spotless sonic calling card for the label and its many multifaceted talents.

Review: Shogun Audio don their shades and stare into the blisteringly bright future of drum & bass with a brand new series; Point Of Origin. The idea is to represent some of the most exciting names (old and new) with an open mind to the many sub-sub-genres drum & bass seems to have right now. As a result we excitingly flicker from lush emotional jazz (Ed:It's "Centre Suite") to unruly sheet metal neuro in the space of a track (Posij - "Shieldbreaker"). Much deeper into the set we hit icy vocal soul from the likes of Need For Mirrors and Liz-E, we get flattened by Zero T's tribal thunder drums and experience a blissful rolling lullaby from Karma. This is the tip of the Point Of Origin iceberg, though... A must-check for all future-focussed junglists.
