Review: As Our Circular Sound is Sigha's label, you'd be forgiven for thinking the man himself would facilitate the first long player on the platform. However recent times have found James Shaw using the label as an outlet for emergent talent, ushering in works from Arcing Seas and Positive Centre to complement the more established contributions of Truss, Shifted and Sigha himself. It's Mike Jefford's Positive Centre project that takes the honour of the first album project on the label with In Silent Series consisting of nine new productions from the producer. If you've indulged in previous Positive Centre material you'll immediately warm to the delicate and glacial exploration of sound reproduction and audio collage.

Swell Of Graviton - (4:30)

Review: A statically-charged groove coated in reverb opens Positive Centre's first release on Sigha's Our Circular Sound, using what seems to be various live manipulations of diffusion, pre-delay and filtering to create a textural musicality. "Field Of Tongues" buzzes like a blitz of B52 bombers flying overhead, while "The Proprioceptor", cut from the same cloth, sounds like a mangled sample of a sleeping bag being unzipped. "Swell Of Graviton" then matches "Hidden Knives" for sparseness and minimalism, only the beats in this swing to a slightly unsettled, syncopated beat sequence.

Signal Structure - (5:05) 136 BPM

Review: As has been the case since the beginning of the Monad series, there is a balance here between intense industrial techno and serene ambience. Mike Jefford, who has released as Positive Centre on Sigha's Our Circula Sound label, starts off the release with the abstract beats and creepy atmospherics of "Great Excavator", before moving into the bleak, bleep-laden sound scapes of "Disappearing Trick". However, he quickly moves into a more intense direction with the doubled up break beats and high-paced techno terror that is "Figure is the Form". Completing this near-schizophrenic release is the serene ambience of "Signal Structure".

Plumes Of Chasm - (4:07) 150 BPM
from $1.91
Review: Sigha's Our Circula Sound label returns for what might be its most impressive record to date, the debut of Positive Centre. Taking its cues from the likes of Andy Stott, Samuel Kerridge, Fishermen and the rest of the techno axis exploring slower tempos, none of the tracks on An Assembly go much above 115BPM, but they're filled with atmosphere and barely concealed dread; the title track sees blackened bass tentacles rippling around thick kick drums, while "Otherwise Black" sees droning textures surrounded by dub mechanics. Tracks like "The Stations Of Section" and "Plumes Of Chasm" meanwhile sound an nihilistic exploration of watery dub, like Porter Ricks' impressionistic undersea realms destroyed by a deepwater oil spill. An impressive debut and a producer to watch closely.

Positive Centre - "In Extracts" - (7:11) 110 BPM

Review: The In Silent Series label is the brainchild of Berlin-based artist Mike Jefford aka Positive Centre, who took the title for the imprint from his 2014 debut album on Sigha'a label. Now Jefford has returned the favour by tapping Sigha to contribute to this split release. "Mother" crackles to dissected industrial rhythms, but is also interspersed with evocative ambient layers. By contrast, SNTS delivers the dense, stepping techno of "Fearless" and on "From Function to Form", Dadub lets loose with a steely, industrial breaker. Jefford himself also contributes to the release, with the multi-layered ambience of "In Extracts" bringing the EP to a dreamy conclusion.
