Review: Glitch City steps up to the wheels of steel to kick off his new year with this cracking dig into the Sub-liminal archives and the results slap in quite a few cool directions. Firstly, the mix is super tight and really creative. Secondly, Sub-liminal have such a sick discography that's all pure timeless dancefloor D&B murkage, you're guaranteed to get your hands some fantastic tear-ups here. Thirdly, it's got Oz's 'Like That', which remains one of the most unique beats in D&B. Naughty across the board, both Glitch City and Sub-liminal have delivered something special here.

Review: Sub-liminal brings an end to the year that was, going out all guns blazing with on Air Part 2 featuring a bunch of wicked VIPs. Label staple Agro serves up several collaborations on here with the likes of Mentah, Raz, Diligent Fingers and Ghxsty. There's also a few offerings by the ever reliable Yatuza; our pick being the wonky stepper of "Distance" with Master Error. Elsewhere, Pyro pops up a few times throughout and was in fine form on "Smithdown Bass" and Prestige handed in a couple of quality dubs with neurofunk cut "Logical" being our pick of the bunch.

Review: Everyone's favourite motherboard crusher Prestige comes to collect our old laptops and desktops for scrap. He lines them up on a far-off wall and shoots every type of firearm he has at them. 'Computer Killer' is the sound of hundred monitors imploding, 'Smashed' is an old briefcase laptop being detonated by a Molotov cocktail, 'Sapphire' is the digital screams of Windows 98 turning inside out and melting under the heat, 'Mechanism' is the sound of some scally badboys playing footie with a hollowed out iMac G3 while 'Journey To Mars' is the sound of brand new laptop being strangled in the dead of the night. Sweet digital murderation.

Review: Jungle dnb veteran RV returns to Sub-liminal with another brace of blazing, heavyweight collaborations that range from full throttle darkness to wonky off-beat badness. 'Target Practice' (with Raz) takes the lead with a venomous ragga edge before we dip into a whole menu or murking flavours - 'Simple Things' (with Chromatic) has a depth plunge bassline and a vibe that wouldn't have gone amiss on V way back in the mid 90s, 'Smuggler' (with Sakkura) takes Eek-A-Mouse to gnarly new levels before hurling us into a gritty harmonic bassline tear-up then 'Data Drop' (with label bossman Agro) pummels us into submission with a high voltage bassline and twisted, manipulated vocals. For added RV pressure, there's also a disgusting remix of Prestige's 'We Want You'. Friends? BFFFs more like! (The extra F is for FIRE)

Review: Move along now, nothing to see - Russian jump-up Donnie Alex Prestige is currently 'Invisible'. Luckily there's plenty to hear though has he crash lands on Liondub International with four of his finest stripped-back sensations. 'No Oxygen' takes the lead with a real groaning, moaning bassline and pared back drums, 'Invisible' stinks with a burbling bassline and wafts with jazzy pads in the distance, 'Snacks' is more of an upbeat jam with skippier kicks and a Souped Up style funk while 'Get Nothing' gives everything with its addictive barking riff and strange twists on the fills. Review: Viper are a big, bad and dangerous label and their 2021 annual is an expression of what makes their output so potent. This whole LP is unafraid to be dancefloor heaviness in an approachable sense, and the whole extended roster has turned up, from label boss Futurebound to Murdock, Blaine Stranger and more. 'Dragon' by the latter is especially good, as a foghorn influenced bass node curls its tendrils amidst a a synthy forest of organic ambience and excellent production. Cyantific and Bl4ck Crowz also impress on 'Waiting 4 U', which stomps its feet in a petulance that's less childish and more chidingly sick, a true festival anthem for sure. The album is a must-listen for all those who rate the Viper side of drum & bass.

Review: Digital Terror have had a sick last twelve months and this VA shows off some of their best cuts from the year, featuring acts like Jayline, Dutta, SL8r and more. Those latter two collab in serious style on 'The Pain', which cuts down into the range with fire and fury, angled sharp basses knifing through the frequencies with the grace and decorum of an elephant in heat. Jack The Ripper lands with supreme heaviness on 'Direction Course', Spaow brings the old-school vibes on 'Gallopo' and the collaboration of the album comes from the dream team of Jayline, Bou, Dutta and MC Dino who land with aplomb on 'Pico Skank'. Review: One of the regular labels we feature are Sub-Liminal, a wicked little imprint that puts out a diverse sound ranging from techy rollers to jump-up steppers and even liquidy numbers. This week they've arrived with an EP from Prestige, who, across six tracks, spans various tones and styles, all of them rooted in a sense of dancefloor aggressiveness and all of them top-notch. 'It Must Be Destroyed' is a highlight, its rolling percussive line isn't the paciest but is loping and satisfying, whilst a gargling bass and sweeping reeces sit just above and inject all the force. 'A Snake' is also a wicked track, with a lovely, stripped back drum line that's full of moody sonics. Top stuff.

Review: Everyone likes a good compilation, right? What's better than having as big a range of artists as possible in one condensed place? It's essentially an album with the ease of listening of a single, so we're all for it. Subliminal have come out with the 2020 edition in their Riddim Return series and it's packed full of bangers, across a range of styles, and it's one of those albums which doesn't try to be cool or sophisticated by chucking in a few fillers for the sake of diversity - it's just hard stuff here. It works great, with Sam Harris' tendency for muscular minimosity coming on loud and clear on Boom Ting, a wickedly devilish and driving roller.

Review: Prestige can really make music and his latest piece of work is out over on Calypso Muzak. A Gift is an energetic piece of jump-up construction that doesn't hesitate to punch you in the face and its exemplified by the title track, a bass-filled expression of dancefloor hatred which moves in mysterious yet obvious ways. It bangs, basically, as does the rest of the EP, with special mention going out to the final track 'Clean', which has a filthy gargled concotion of low frequency energy that wouldn't sound out of place on Souped Up. Top notch.

Review: Good4Nothing Records always tend to put out music that rests on the foundations of UK underground, the cross-over influences of jungle and D&B. it's always a fresh sound and it always brings up connotations of Boomtown, free parties and sunny afternoons. Twisted, gnarled jump up is the main focus here in the second part of their 10-year anniversary celebrations and Complex is a good example of how it goes down, his track 'Night Time' blowing and flowing through with all the power of the winter winds. Danger's 'Falling' is yet more filth, with a powerful drum line and punchy sub-bass that bangs in and out of the range. Excellent compilation.

Review: Prestige is definitely one of the more talented producers out there, with previous releases on a host of other labels and his aggressive sound is back with a vengeance here. Packed with harsh, barking tones and a stripped-back, industrial aesthetic, Prestige doesn't waste any time in laying out the rules: there are none. 'A Ghost' is one of the heavier cuts, with a punching back end and an obstinate feel of solidness that reflects down all the way onto the rest of the tune. 'Magnificent' is the title tune and you can see why, with a KoTR-esque approach to drawn out basslines and tough sonics, all of which come together to round out a sick release from the Sub-liminal crew.

Review: Down 2 Earth Muzik is Macky Gee's imprint, his way of putting out more of the music he personally enjoys and wishes there was more of, a stamp he can plonk down on the scene and call his own. This next release is from Prestige and it seems like he's heard the criticism that jump up is too samey, and so gone out and tried to refine and change the sound. He's definitely succeeded, whether you're into it is up to you, but there's a certain creativity in how the synths and basses are constructed and how they relate to each other. We love it and can't wait to hear more.
