Review: The unstoppable audio arsonist Pyro lights his last fire of 2022 with this moody and murky six pack on Argo's Sub-liminal - 'Solitary'. Signing out of his busiest and most prolific year to date, 'Solitary' runs the full range as Pyro takes us on a trip. Key navigation points are the distant, dark dream vocals of the title track, the awesome bubbly rave energy of 'Talkin' and the darker, late 90s bassline flavours of 'Melted'. Complete with a VIP of 'Renegade', this is an absolutely massive EP. Expect more fire in 2023.

Review: Agro's Sub-liminal machine keeps ploughing us into tomorrow with raffish, unruly fusions from some of the most exciting producers in the bass game. Reading like who's who in tomorrow's talent, highlights hang off every corner like a poorly fitted suit... Vital's 'The Streets' is pure machine gun menace, Kre's 'Peaky Blinders' is all slices and dices with its maximal wall of sound and cool glitchy freak-outs while Woolf's remix of Yatuza's 'Don't Be Absurd' ends this forward-thinking VA with a subversive super deep twist. Hard hitting.

Review: Sub-liminal brings an end to the year that was, going out all guns blazing with on Air Part 2 featuring a bunch of wicked VIPs. Label staple Agro serves up several collaborations on here with the likes of Mentah, Raz, Diligent Fingers and Ghxsty. There's also a few offerings by the ever reliable Yatuza; our pick being the wonky stepper of "Distance" with Master Error. Elsewhere, Pyro pops up a few times throughout and was in fine form on "Smithdown Bass" and Prestige handed in a couple of quality dubs with neurofunk cut "Logical" being our pick of the bunch.

Review: Boosting the subs in Sub-liminal each and every time, Agro's label continues to celebrate the big one-oh-oh with another selection from the very forefront of D&B's future. With the dynamite pairing of Shayper and Amplify setting the scene with 'I Got You', we then hurtle down the rabbit hole with the likes of Guzi's gutter-butting sweeper 'Kushty', the spaced-out wobbles of Prestige's 'Never Wrong', the absolute nuttiness of Niterider's 'Catch Feelings' and Rowney's skank-out 'Yard Ting'. Review: Shottys fired! Pyro finds another way to spark up the dance with this four bullet bruiser EP that's absolutely steeped in groaning basses. 'Shotty Dub' takes the lead with a humungous low end and very little else. 'Compulsion' follows with a fast-lane pace thanks to its pulsating, technoid bassline and classic house vocal loop while 'Smithdown Bass' flips to alien mode - all scatty, tense and dangerous. For good measure Warhead joins the party with a stinking remix of one of Pyro's older rave smasher 'Bring Me Up'.

Review: Balls-out business from brand new southwest label 8Ball as they roll upwards and onwards from free downloads to proper official releases with this killer collection from Pyro, his nearest and dearest and remixers Mentah and Warhead. 'Grit' balances the rough with the smooth as a sizzling bassline rips through a beautiful trance-like arpeggio. Elsewhere Pick N Mix don Blckhry links up with the rubber ball bassline funk of 'Bad' and the remixers go all in... Warhead turbo charges the dancehall blazed 'System Corrupt' while Mentah brings some classic late 2000s jump up roughness into the mix. Bunch of ballers.

Review: Pyro is unleashing an onslaught over on Unauthorized Audio with a tight sounding four-track EP. 'You' is a dark, moody stepper that doesn't care about rules and certainly doesn't care about feelings. The main bass on this tune oozes quality and packs some serious weight, reminiscent of the Souped Up crew. 'Smoke' is slightly less crazy but it definitely is still on the crazy end, as gargled bass notes inject a whole load of force into the arrangement and there's a wicked bit of MC work to boot. "I Luv Girls' is downright nasty, and 'Frequency' combines a sub-heavy bit of minimal work with some dirty foghorn business. Tasty.

Review: Pyro is one of those artists who straddles that divide between rollers, jump up and jungle and he does it in proper style. He's now over on Unauthorised Audio and he's back with a five-tracker packed to the gills with subtle yet forceful rollers that carry a true sense of attitude. 'Frequency' is our favourite, with a really cool eight bar build up that ramps the tension that unleashes it in a deeply satisfying way, the bass nodes tumble over each other to try and grab your attention and it all comes out as this package of dancefloor pressure. Banging.

Review: Not to be confused with the Julia Roberts classic, the Sound of Nuusic isn't a Bavarian epic but instead a UK underground epic of compilation sized proportions, with a whole raft of underground talents offering up a diverse concoction of jungle flavours. With Conrad Subs making several appearances, his stand-out contribution is 'Leave Dem', with a funked-up loping introduction that's seriously smooth but which quickly devolves into a stuttering balance of breaks and reece bass action. There's wicked jungle contributions from Kumarachi and RMS as well as Sheffield upstart Charla Green, whose knock-down breaks carry some serious weight. This is a must-listen for anyone who likes their jungle music.

Review: Hyrdrated Audio have clearly decided that they're going to grab 2019 by the horns and do everything they can to make this year the year that their imprint makes it. You can tell the extent of their determination from the precision with which they've curated this various artists compilation and the mix of vibes and quality is top notch. The opening tune from Metal Work says it all, a rolling grater of chopped-up bass synths that'll pace out its competitors. A favourite of ours is Skeng by Raptcha, another lovely rolling number that flips your expectations on its head with a flow of creativity - big tune.
