Libation EP
Cold Brew - (5:23) 172 BPM Hot
Aperol (feat Genic) - (5:08) 172 BPM
AeroPress (feat Klippee & Combine) - (4:13) 174 BPM
Fernet - (5:01) 172 BPM
Review: Quadrant & Iris - a husband and wife duo who know a thing or two about producing gritty, down to earth drum & bass. It's been their trademark for years now and this new EP's placement on Guidance UK confirms its status as something to be opened with extreme care. It's the first track - 'Cold Brew' - that stands out most, an absurdly good dancefloor cut with a deadly groove oozing from its every pore, a non-stop riot that keeps running all the way past its crunchingly creative second drop. 'Fernet' is equally creative, with a unique structure that will keep you on the edge of your seat until it finally drops over two and a half minutes in, a spinning, destructive climax to a techno-infused piece of work. Proper music.

Trip Hammer/Intuition
Ulterior Motive - "Trip Hammer" - (4:58) 172 BPM
Ulterior Motive & Quadrant & Iris - "Intuition" - (6:03) 172 BPM Hot
Review: Ulterior Motive's new Guidance imprint has already proven to be a top-notch destination for music that's vibrant in its darkness and effortless in its movement. The grungy soundscapes and industrial tones are back with Trip Hammer/Intuition, the first of which is deadly satisfying: curling bass nodes, crisp drum licks and an ambiance of hopeless energy. Quadrant & Iris feature on the flipside and oh boy, this one is a real creeper. Boulder-like basses tumble over one another on their race out of the stocks, a perfectly weighted drum line sits just below the tangled low frequencies in glorious fashion and the overall package is as slick as can be. This is proper Ulterior Motive.

Review: Getting you to more places than the Docklands Light Railway ever could, DLR takes his Sofa around the world and stops off at the homes and studios of some of the most exciting new generation artists. Every direction you check its severe roller situation as each participant step up with their finest. Highlights include the outlandish grizzles of Submarine & Scepticz's "Shingoki", the hair raising wriggles and flabby funk on Ill Truth on "Catch A Break", the infectious steppy late 90s buzzes of bossman DLR and Script's "El Mosquito" and the lush jazzy flurries of Trex's "Falling Down"... but that's just scratching the surface, the whole Sofa king thing is immense.

Classified V3
Total Science, Quadrant & Iris - "False Alarm" (Villem remix) - (5:23) 174 BPM Hot
Critical Impact - "Geeks & Geez" (feat Jakes) - (3:40) 174 BPM
Total Science - "What I Need" - (5:26) 174 BPM
Arcatype - "Cascade" - (5:45) 170 BPM
Review: This is your mission, should you choose to accept it: Check out these highly classified C.I.A bangers and slap your dancefloor silly with them as soon as possible. All weapon's grade material, each tune hits with the soul, sentiment and weight you'd expect from Total Science's now-21-year-old label. Villem switches up "False Alarm" with a little barbed swing, Critical Impact collides with Jakes for a deadly metallic roller on "Geeks & Geezas", Total Science add a little jazz to the riot while Arcatype brings the assignment to the poignant end it deserves. Each one direct and deadly when dropped at the right time; the mission is there should you choose to accept it. The message will self destruct in five seconds.

Nothing To Loose, Scattershot
Nymfo - "Nothing To Loose" (original mix) - (3:44) 172 BPM
Quadrant/Iris - "Scattershot" (Nymfo remix) - (5:43) 171 BPM Hot
Review: Redeyes isn't messing around with Vandal's first release of 2017. Naturally Nymfo delivers on both occasions: "Nothing To Lose" is a knuckle scuffing, heads-down roller with a Dispatch style edge in its lean elements and construction and dark funk. His remix of Quadrant & Iris is equally on point as he retains the dreamy, cloud burst ambience of the original while stretching out the bass with pure elasticity. Subtle, restrained and beautiful - it's the perfect balance to the lead track grit.

Pushin Your Luck/Obsolete (VIP)
Total Science/Quadrant/Iris - "Pushin Your Luck" - (5:37) 172 BPM Hot
Quadrant/Iris/Kid Hops - "Obsolete" (VIP) - (5:22) 173 BPM
Review: Owners of CIA and long-time legends Total Science team up with long time collaborators Quadrant, Iris and Kid Hops - this time around for two slices of razor sharp breaks. "Pushin' Your Luck" delivers on every level, maxing out vintage drums with decrepit sampling decor. "Obsolete" kicks back slightly, opting for a fresher take on new age drum and bass breaks with the type of ebullient bass that just keeps bubblin' under the surface. Two tunes to salute.

Solar Wind EP
Quadrant & Kid Hops & Iris - "Solar Wind" - (6:09) 173 BPM Hot
Quadrant & Lukeino & Homemade Weapons - "Mayday" - (5:33)
Played by: PLATFORM, Slam Mode
Review: Seattle might be a city famous for grunge, rain and coffee, but Quadrant, Kid Hops and Iris are hoping to place it firmly on the map for chilling, glacial liquid funk too. Forgoing the usual sun 'n' sea atmospherics for an altogether more Baltic feel, "Solar Wind" tweaks electronic chimes and cirrus-light sampling into an icy cold roller Enei would be proud of. Newcomers Lukeino and Homemade Weapons collab with Quadrant on "Mayday", as light synths circle above a crevasse of deep, cavernous bass. Cinematic and fresh with unique elements of crisp production and breakbeat influences, its got our seal of approval.

Genesis EP Pt 4
Mortem - "Iceberg" - (5:23) 172 BPM Hot
FD - "Break & Enter" - (4:58) 170 BPM
Prolix - "What You Need" - (4:34) 172 BPM
Quadrant & Iris - "Anthropocene" - (5:37) 173 BPM
Review: Rest assured, the fourth installment of the Genesis EP will not disappoint. Kicking off with "Iceberg" it's all stripped back aesthetics and warping, metallic tones here with a haunted minimalism. Next "Break & Enter" ups the ante with smashing snares, booming b-line and a growly vocal sample, before "What You Need" takes things on a tougher tip with pounding drums, groaning SFX and plenty of menacing swagger. Last but not least "Anthropocene" rounds things off with great poignancy.

Command Strange - "Love Beam" - (4:46)
Review: A collection of gems from the deeper and liquid side of D&B here from the likes of Command Strange, Bachelors of Science and Scott Allen. Quadrant's "Expanse" gets the album started with crisp, metallic breaks, sweeping instrumentals and a warm, fuzzy bassline. We are taken through such moments as Gerwin's super slick, vocal-led cut "Floods (featuring Suree)", the bittersweet "A World Full Of Lies" from Smote & SoundNBeats and the hip-hop influenced swagger of Bachelors Of Science "Bounce". An excellent long listener, take this on a car journey with you and discover something new today.

Patience
Hybrid Minds - "Patience" - (5:55) 175 BPM Hot
Quadrant - "Expanse" - (5:21) 173 BPM
Review: Highly promising outfit Hybrid Minds make a musical foray on Fokuz in the first part of this single. Title track "Patience" is all firm, steady pattering breaks, with a hollow, slightly raucous edge, juxtaposed with soft, sonorous vocal drifting over the top. Gentle, lullaby-like piano keys add further structure to the piece and ensure that the liquid vibes run free for the duration. Accompanying this is Quadrant, who kicks off "Expanse" with an insistent intro, full of drum kicks and blissed out, sweeping atmospherics, building the layers into a fully fledged main part which is full of big, swelling basslines and warm overtones.

The Remixes
Quadrant - "Only Mortal" (Dabs remix) - (6:19) 174 BPM
Dabs - "Crawler" (Quadrant remix) - (5:23) Hot
Review: Quadrant and Dabs switch it up on this split release on Citrus; first it's Dabs remixing Quadrant's "Only Mortal" and then it's vice versa. The former is all terse, punchy drums, dreamy ethereal pads and understated trance-like synths, falling into the main tune with a shudder of SFX and pound of drums. The latter is Quadrant's remix of Dabs' "Crawler" - crisp, stuttering beats are punctuated by hissing hi-hats and warping bass reminiscent of a Jubei release kicks in and dominates for the rest of the tune.
