Review: The eighth instalment of Cocoon's Dots And Pearls compilation series starts on a light note. JOSS' "Assessing" is a melodic techno track powered by cascading snares and swirling pads. In a similar style is Emanuel Satie's "When I First Met You (I Knew You Were The One)", where angelic voices and soaring strings make for an uplifting track. There's an edgier sensibility on Denis Horvat & Skarn's chugging "Triii", reflected also on Aocram & Ramsey Neville's acid-led "Brooklyn Structure".
The mood continues to darken with the EBM influences of Alex Bau's grinding "Antidot", while the ever-reliable Redshape resurfaces with the pulsating "Ghost Story". But it's only a temporary situation and Harald Bjork's "Aluco" rounds off the release with an ominous tranced-out track.

Review: Raxon returns to Kompakt following last year's Speicher 124 release. Since then, he has graced labels like Ellum and Cocoon. However, the tripped-out sounds that prevail on this follow-up release feel like they would only fit on the seminal Kompakt Extra label. "Your Fault" resounds to jittery percussion, stuttering vocal snatches and a lo-fi melody that floats seductively over Raxon's back beats. It makes for a wonderfully distinctive sound. "Beskar" sees him take a radically different approach. More focused on the dance floor, its insistent, pulsating groove and throbbing bass come together to house a murmuring vocal sample. It makes for a deadly effective club track and one that is sure to have a prominent place in Michael Mayer's sets.

Review: John Digweed presents Futuro: a 25-track compilation celebrating 25 years of his hugely influential Bedrock label (established in 1999). Taking in the likes of Bushwacka with tracks like "Lectrobee" to the "Bleu Cobalt" studio collaboration between Digweed, Nick Muir, and Captain Mustache - other notables here include label legends and associates like Marco Bailey, David Morales and Rodriguez Jr. Replete with uplifting melodies, pulsating rhythms and progressive hose suggestions, there's extra slices of techno from Raxon, next to select cuts by Sasha Carassi, Lost Desert, and Weska all the more. Bedrock's best.

Review: Raxon makes a long-awaited return with the captivating 'Robotalia' on the legendary Cocoon Recordings. The Egyptian-born, Barcelona-based artist delivers two heady tracks that dive deep into futurist soundscapes. The title track takes you to a parallel dimension of machine-driven sounds on this seriously slinky and hypnotic groove, while the moody atmosphere of "Kryptonite" immerses you in an alien offworld, with stuttering vocals and dramatic chord stabs. Raxon's mastery shines through, making this release another must-listen.

Review: Egyptian-born, Barcelona-based DJ and techno producer Raxon released Sound Of Mind in late 2021. Like many albums released during the pandemic, Raxon's debut album was a product of the unique social situation the planet has found itself caught within. Now we have some revised selections from the LP offered up here by German powerhouse Kompakt, with a new club version of "Exit Station", while "El Multiverse" receives a intensely cerebral redux by Japanese hypnotic techno merchant Wata Igarashi, and German minimal electro/'maximal' stalwarts Extrawelt get onboard for two renditions of "Droid Solo".

Review: Barcelona-based Egyptian DJ/producer Raxon returns to local imprint Ellum Audio, following up last year's Compute EP (with Blindin) for more of his distinct brand of futuristic main-room techno on "Mantis". It's a minimal and bass-driven journey, featuring robot voices underpinned by clipped rhythm programming and does a great job of building the tension and suspense leading up to the peak time. Equally worthy of the job is second offering "Input Robot", which is a booming electro number that's equally dystopian in aesthetic and optimised for being heard under the strobe lights.

Review: Take a wander over the storied discography of Egytian producer Raxon and you'll find a most intriguing career. Across 10 years Raxon has graduated with flying colours on labels like Ellum Audio, Drumcode and Truesoul to Diynamic Music and Audiojack's Gruuv - and intriguingly still is his contribution to Kompakt Extra. This seems to have paved the way for Raxon's debut album - Sound Of Mind - which sees the artist throw down a gauntlet of industrialised, melodic, minimal and electrified sounds. With detuned vocal effects across the LP reflecting a classic Richie Hawtin context, Raxon combines the heavy vamp of a bassline in "El Multiverse" next to some downtempo warehouse beats in "Majestic" alongside skippier rhythms and euphoric melodies in "Journey Mode". A super fresh debut album from a most trusted artist that adds to not only Kompakt's legacy but his own.

Review: Egyptian born, now Barcelona-based DJ and producer Raxon returns for his first solo release on Frankfurt's Cocoon Recordings, after contributing "The Turbulent" to 2019's Compilation S. Deep techno is the order of the day on the moody "Doom". This one is an equally slinky and hypnotic journey that's perfect for the warm-up, with its roaring bass and trippy pitch shifted vocal effects. Raxon goes for a less ominous and more uplifting vibe on second offering "2121" which takes its cues from Italo disco, complete with vocoded melodies, cosmic aesthetic and seriously low slung groove all round.

Review: Cologne powerhouse Kompakt have continually defined a unique aesthetic as label - deep, atmospheric and absolutely evocative. For the 19th edition of their revered Total series - The Voigt Brothers & Co. curate another splendid compilation featuring the very best in international electronic music from the last year, taking in a wide variety of styles, tempos moods and grooves - yet all with the label's distinct taste. Highlights (and there's many!) came courtesy of: local Gewolbe Club resident Jonathan Kaspar with the mesmerising dancefloor drama of "Renard", label co-founders Tobias Thomas & Michael mayer teaming up on the sexy lo-slung groove antics of "Total Anders", label staple and all round Berlin legend Sascha Funke delivers a typically quirky and oddball groove on "Aus Der Lamang". Elsewhere, you can get your tunnel vision on with the ever reliable Rex The Dog on "Vortex", the ascendant Anii from Poland takes you deep into the rainforest on the tribal trance of "Ride The Tiger" and ANNA from Brazil provides some dystopian narratives for the dancefloor on "Remembrance".

Review: It's been twenty years since Sven Vath's Cocoon operation set up in Ibiza; since then the label's annual alphabet-themed compilations have also come to define techno's stylistic twists and turns. According to S, 2019 clearly saw the re-emergence of trance in its various forms, from Love Over Entropy's wide-eyed abandon to Stimming's more musical approach - audible on "The Gift That Never Stops To Give". Musicality is also a common theme on the house and techno that features on Compilation S, with Emanuel Satie's "Planet XXX" resounding to melodic chord stabs and Giegling artist Edward's "End Days" favouring chattering samples and a soaring bass - inspired by E-Dancer with a modern, Teutonic twist.

Review: Kompakt Extra casts its gaze wide for its latest release by enlisting the services of Raxon. Born and raised in Egypt and Dubai, he now spends his time in Barcelona, the home of Sonar. On "The Ancient", which kick-starts his Speicher debut, he draws on his diverse background; the buzzing, searing central riff sounds like the a Middle Eastern droning chant. Coupled with a snaking, buzzing groove it is exactly the kind of frazzled techno one would expect to hear at one of the Sonar festival's beach parties. On the flip, "Dark Light" sees the emerging producer opt for a more malevolent approach, as an ominous, prowling bass underpins muffled vocal samples.
