Review: On "Junk", Ray Topolov demonstrates that it's possible to make tech-house without veering into the kind of depths of mediocrity that most releases in this field end up in. The title track is based on a dense, drummy groove that features powerful filters pushing and pulling it sideways and backwards as the arrangement progresses, and hissing hats that provide the required impetus but which never overpower or seek to dominate the arrangement. Tracky but never plodding, deep but also functional, "Junk" hits a near-perfect balance that other producers operating in this general area would do well to emulate. It's called "Junk" but its value is high.
