Review: RIP Razat. The Portuguese producer sadly passed away after a long struggle with cancer in August last year, but his music is still seeing the light of day, recently through 1985 Music and now through Flexout Audio. He's responsible for the next instalment in the Waves sub-label series and it's one of the best yet, with floating basses and sound design so eerie you almost can't believe that it simultaneously sounds so warm and vibrant. This is some of the best halftime we've heard in ages and the sub-genre is definitely in a quiet patch at the moment, but the spookily good tones of 'D Radio' and 'D Hum' show that Razat was one of the most talented bass producers out there. Unmissable release.

Review: 1985 Music was founded by Alix Perez a year or two ago and, since then, has rapidly become one of the premier destinations for forward-thinking sonics that inhabit the 85-170bpm spectrum. With a fresh roster including Monty, Submarine and Perez himself, Edition 2 is a showcase of both the producers and sounds that Alix has in his orbit. There are too many outstanding tracks to recount here, but 'Drones' by Cesco stands out as one of the most creative: a subby, stepping halftime cut with an ingenious drum pattern. There's weighty rollers, too, including 'Swayed' by Bredren and 'Good To Me' by Perez and Monty, both of which are sublime examples in minimal construction. A truly sick collection of tracks.

Review: It's safe to say that the Vandal LTD founders: SKS & Redeyes have certainly done themselves proud on this one as the label brings us the goliath Grand Royal LP. This selection is fantastic, incorporating everything from experimental hip hop to juke to the furthest borders drum & bass can find classification. The whole project just breathes originality, particularly on tracks such as 'Explicit' by NGHT DRPS, which is a very creative half time jungle roller. Another pair of instant favourites are Alerstorm's 'Bak' and 'Zero Caliber' from Balatron, both of which ooze electronic creativity and sound design prowess. This compilation is a phenomenal body of work from start to finish.

Review: The Division label is back and utterly 'up for it' with this second instalment of the Partial series, a corner of the label dedicated to bringing you the very hardest in dubstep vibes; strangely enough, this seems like a bit of a rarity these days! Woolymammoth's opener "Prasak" sets us up for some seriously hard beatings, which is exactly what "Visor" by Holly & Former delivers on. Revazz's "Voltaic" is a slower, more menacing bass mutant, which is not something that can be said about "High Risers" from Proxima...an impressively off-kilter number with some nutty percussion swings. "Shocking Element" by Subp Yao & Razat goes off on a broken beat tangent, and The Outsiders' "Radar Signal" offers the nearest interpretation of future grime on this whole EP. Blinding bass bombs!
