Review: Having made his bow on the label back in 2009, Atlanta-born, Detroit-based Reggie Dokes is now one of We Play House's longest serving artists. Even so, this EP marks Dokes' first appearance for the Belgian imprint for six years. It's something a little different too, as Dokes digs into his African heritage and doffs a cap throughout to the great Fela Kuti. 'Salute To Fela', the third track, is a brilliant tribute to the great man full of punchy horns, gorgeous instrumentation and polyrhythmic afro-house beats, while 'Moments In Blackness' is a luscious deep house shuffler smothered in gorgeous jazz guitars and languid keys. Elsewhere, 'No Worries' is a more hazy, thickset and soulful affair, while 'Symbiotic' is a summery, off-kilter Afro-house treat for fans of Osunlade and Joaquin 'Joe' Clausell.

Review: Belgium house aficionado Red D hooks up with Detroit statesman and Psychostasia Recordings boss Reggie Dokes for an on point collaboration called RD2. The EP interestingly delivers three collaborative productions and the one club piano and jazz jam from Dokes himself. RD2 though shine through most in tracks, "Beyond Borders" and "Sharing Angels", serving up frenetic shuffles of percussive house, funky basslines and chugging 909 rhtyhms alongside slamming ride cymbals, uplifting passages of synths, triangles, claps and cowbells! It displays something of a more relaxed scenario than the acid biting synths lines of a dubbier, and electro-influenced "From D to Shining D". Who's afraid of Detroit?

Review: It would be fair to say that Release Sustain has put together a particularly hot line-up of production talent on this compilation style EP. Vakula kicks things off with "809", a thrillingly trippy chunk of heads-down house built around a relentless electronic riff and clattering drum machine percussion, before Italian producer Simoncino steals the show with "Laura B (Transimeno Dream Mix)", where haunting flute lines, Larry Heard chords and dusty vocal samples cluster around a heady, analogue-rich groove. On the flip, you'll find a deliciously positive and loved-up chunk of melodious deep house breeziness from veteran Vincent Floyd, and some fuzzy, jammed-out analogue deep house warmth from sometime Royal Oak and We Play House man Reggie Dokes.

Review: As one of those artists that gets forgotten amidst the hype of his fellow Detroit brethren, Reggie Dokes has been doggedly doing his thang for well over a decade now. His approach is heavy on the rough sampling and fractured groove, but imbued with a heavy sense of soul. "Child Of The Sun" is a thoroughly jacking romp that wrestles with an oddball synth, stark flecks of piano and plastic strings while the beat hammers away incessantly. "Funk Below" focuses more heavily on the piano while rolling out in a similarly stilted fashion that builds to a more symphonic crescendo of melodies.
