Review: Joachim Spieth's Affin label's still going strong after almost ten years of dedicated, tech-minded work across Europe's best dancefloors, and all of it a product of the same familiar faces that have proudly done the label some due diligence. Label veteran Reggie Van Oers hits first with a tenebrous, grey-scaled bit of deep techno by the name of "Place Of Connect", which is followed by Deepbass' gorgeous "Tempest" track, a watery, dubbed-out techno chugger brimming with wild bleeps and mind-bending sonics. Label boss Joachim Spieth then brings a ridiculously skeletal 4/4 shot, driven into oblivion with the help of barren atmospherics and explorative soundscapes that stray way out into the ether.

Review: Joachim Spieth's Affin imprint starts a new series titled Affinity and this inaugurates the new project in spectacular fashion. This new venture will likely delve into hypnotic techno territory and we like where it's leading! It's Sardinia's Claudio PRC up first who gives us "Limnic", a slow burning and sinister epic with some seriously evil sound design and droning bass drawing you into the void. Fellow Sardinian and Prologue label mate Ness is up next with "Vardar" a stomping and tunnelling techno affair with layer upon layer of immersive pads and paranoid atmospherics. On the flip is Dutchman Reggy Van Oers, with the rather Dettmann sounding "Frenetic" and finally sometime Ness collaborator, Glasgow's Deepbass gets onboard with the hypnotic and futuristic stomper "The Light That Never Was".

Review: Van Oers puts out his first record for Affin's sub-label in two years and it's a belter. The title track sees dubbed out chords wash over a choppy but brittle l rhythm, its mechanical nature the perfect counterbalance to the dramatic textures. By contrast, "Shunned" is a much more stripped back and linear affair, with a straight drum track underpinning a gradually building, hypnotic filter. Affin has chosen the remixers well; Italian techno producer Claudio PRC makes some slight adjustments to "Pristine", but the insistent percussion and more rolling groove make it more suited to the dance floor. Meanwhile, the Deepbass take on "Shunned" is a tripped out, echo-heavy journey into techno's darkest corners.
