Review: Fresh from releases on the likes of Program, Addictive Behaviour and Blendits, Manchester operator Release charges headfirst into Trace's legendary Dsci4 imprint with four absolutely brutal tear-ups. All of them armed with a heavy level of gruff, rough-around-the-edges vibe, there's a heavy 90s KO punch to each workout. Highlights include the flighty bongo rolls and dark funk of 'Ill Gotten Gain' and the stern thrust and techno-like charge of 'Step Trot' but the whole EP kicks in a major way.

Review: He might have one of the most unGoogleable names in D&B history, but that really is about the only slightly critical thing you can say about Manchester-based artist Release. With tracks across a wide range of trustworthy and innovative labels (DSC14, Switch, Proximity, Viper, Celsius) here he returns to Horizons with four more superlative sonic spells: "King Stays" is a piano-pressing stepper that starts off Technimatic but drops into some much more NFM. "Make Me Feel" oozes dreamy soul with its wah wah rippled intro and deep techy pay-off while "Giving Up" takes us much deeper into his range with big splashing cymbals and icy Total Science style synths. Finally "Iron Hand" is a straight up drumfunk cut that will leave you punch drunk. How do feel you about this?

Review: Born out of a shared love for underground drum and bass across the nations, Austria-UK label Switch! have created a haven for dirty basslines for the discerning listener. Kicking off with the gully "Phantom Power", T>I plays off heavy duty bass with percussion that'll knock you backwards. It's an anthem. Working together with Release for "Mug's Game", the other side of the show, T>I offers destructive industrial sampling and a low end thump that hits like a jackhammer. Militant.

Review: This EP is a collaboration of work by some of Europe's finest intelligent liquid producers. A strange sub-genre term it might be, but Intelligent Manners' Intelligent Recordings has searched far and wide over the past couple of years to find music that fits the niche. Celsius have done much the same here, showcasing some of the finest intelligent drum & bass around that still holds the soul and emotive qualities of liquid. Featuring the likes of Intelligent Manners, Command Strange and Mage, it's a breezy look at what the future holds for one of the longest standing sub-genres in dance music. If you like Calibre, DJ Marky, S.P.Y or Bukem, you'll want to check this out pronto.

Review: Release provides the next release on Celsius; teaming up with Stephen J Wood for the "Take The Hint EP", it's all chiming instrumentals, ticking breaks and lilting loveliness across this nice little 2-tracker. First up is "Each Day" which begins with whispering, beats, chiming SFX and slowly develops into the main tune with rolling, purposeful drums and warm instrumentals. "Take The Hint" continues to weave the same musical narrative with clinking, chiming SFX, sweeping atmospherics, a hint of breathy vocals and pounding drums setting the pace.

Review: It's sunshine drenched breezy D&B from Release on the aptly named Liquid Brilliants label. "Smiles From Space" is all ticking breaks, rolling bass and lilting lullaby melodies, which soothe the soul and ease us along into Release's sublime sunlit world. Then there's "Imagine That" which taps into a similar soundscape, composed of sultry, shimmying SFX, jazzy touches, crisp, curling, pattering drum beats and distant horns blowing across the melody. A promising offering here from Release with evocative, soulful and laidback vibes in abundance.
