Review: Replicants is an alias for the long-established producer Tim Hannigan, and Jam follows the excellent I Like The Way You Crunch release from earlier this year. On "Atomic Jam (Whip It edit)" Hannigan channels the spirits of Kraftwerk and Hashim to create a track that is both starkly futuristic but also cheekily subversive in its sampling. On "HeartwreckR_", and the 'version' alternative, he opts for a similarly collage-like approach; atmospheric late 70s synths and vocoder vocals swirl over a gurgling bass and rolling 808s. He follows this with the bleaker, bass-heavy "2DogsFunkin", which wraps up another fine Replicants release.

Review: Replicants is a new project from Tim Hannigan, one of the co-founders of legendary Irish dance act Sound Crowd. With a focus now on electro, this debut outing as Replicants shows that he is a seriously versatile artist. The title track features eerie synths and robo-vocals but it's the all-powerful grainy bass and tight drum programming that really sets this track apart from the glut of electro-themed releases currently in circulation. "Jiro" sees Hannigan push the envelope farther, as a low-slung drum pattern underpins plunge bass tones and jagged melodic stabs. With DJ Mek recruited for a scratch remix of "Jiro", this release really is a cut above the rest.
