Review: This debut EP from Response goes back to the classic Headz formula; honest drums, basslines that won't quit and stripped back sense of purity. It's more barebones and relaxed than the label's recent work and it's a flip that works extremely well, as Response rolls things out with a feeling of careless abandon. That's not to say there isn't toughness on here, however, as 'Manhunter' pushes growling bass barks underneath an outer layer of crisp hi-hats and back alley snare hits. 'Betrayal' is space-age, Bukem-style luxury, a panoramic journey through celestial tones that makes you feel lighter than air; this is proper liquid. An all-round masterclass!

Review: All gully on the Western front; Dead Man's Chest's label begin to present a brand new Blunted Breaks compendium. The last one, released 2018, did serious damage with the likes of Coco Bryce, Thugwidow, Earl Grey and Tim Reaper in the blend and there's no doubt this collection will do the same as friends old and new collide to celebrate the broken beat in all its blunted and deeper forms. Response & Pliskin set the scene with big breezy pads wrapped up over classic rave breaks. Serious 6am business. They're followed by The Dreamers affiliate D'TCH with the sublime halftime exploration 'Re-reparation' before Coco Bryce sends every single hair on your body on end with his twist Double O's 'God Is A Woman'. Last but not least Eusebeia closes the deal with a nod to the old Moving Shadow days. Keep it blunted.

Review: Rupture LDN are a new label with a mission and Response is the man here to take up that mission, with his ethereal jungle tones and spacious atmosperhic vibes. That's the key to this single, sumptuous lethargy with an undercurrent of junglist force that creates a sick dichotomy between light and dark, white and black. 'Running Through' exemplifies this, with a backdrop of sweeping strings and velvet pads, it plods on through an arrangement of relaxation and nonchalance. Epic bits here.

Review: Now it is time to into the nostalgic and unexpected as we welcome back Sneaker Social Club to unveil their brand new four track project, in which Dead Man's Chest takes the lead alongside a host of names with fantastic results. The first track we touch on is entitled 'We All Go a Little Mad Sometimes' alongside Response and is a truly hypnotic experience, working together beeping tones with breakbeats and circular melodies. Next, Coco Bryce gets involved with the more bubbly breaksy sounds of 'The Dead Will Dance' before Dead Man's Chest steps out on solo duty for 'Exorcisms'. We finish up this one with a dive into 'Pum Flex', an almost juke inspired drum creation alongside Sonic, stacked with rhythmic energy from start to finish.

Review: Digital (Function Rec) protegees Response and Pliskin collide on Frodo's Tempo Records for more dark drum funk. "OT Blues" is straight out of the good book of Paradox, slap-happy amens and a cold lead texture that raises more hair on your back than you'd care to mention. "Seal Clubba" lives up to its cruel title thanks to a thundering kick/snare combo, wrapped tightly in a gritty, guttural bass tone alongside "Inta" vocal samples. Finally "Future Uncertain" looks to the past with hurricane pads, iced out piano delicacies and a steppier drumset that's reminiscent of Marcus Intalex/ Doc Scott / Blu Mar Ten's star-gazing output. Outstanding.

Review: Player central: Not one artist on this EP doesn't command serious respect. Ed:It and Pennygiles's 2014 firecracker gets the treatment from Ulterior Motive, adding just a lick or two of shade to the already solid groove. ST Files and Response follow with a beautifully restrained deep stepper that's not dissimilar to erstwhile ST collaborator Marcus Intalex. Total Science and FD maintain the deep theme with a soulful rolling track that's not dissimilar to their Funky Technicians material. Villem and McLeod anchor the EP with a unique halftime roll that balances dark and light tighter than your nan's 1950s television. A truly spotless EP.
