Review: 14 years have passed since Benji B and Judah established their monthly Deviation parties in London. This fine compilation celebrates the club's legacy and sound, which famously touched on all manner of soul-fired musical styles whilst keeping one eye (and both feet) on the dancefloor, with Benj B selecting cuts that never failed to rock the party. Expect a mixture of skewed, bass-heavy beats (Dorian Concept, James Blake, 00Genesis), heady instrumental hip-hop (Waajeed, Damn Funk remixing Baron Zen), Afro-funk (K Fimpong), peak-time UK bass mutations (Pearson Sound, Martyn, Mala), high-grade deep house (Gilb'r remixing Rick Wilhite, Theo Parrish) and a smattering of genuine scene anthems (Detroit Experiment, Maurice Fulton's remix of Alice Smith, DJ SPen presents DJ Technic).

Review: Yes, The Godson is back doing his thing for Rush Hour! Detroit legend Rick Wilhite first put his compiling skills to play for the Amsterdam empire back in 2010 with the excellent Vibes New & Rare Music, an 11-track release that celebrated the role the esteemed selector and producer played in moulding local Detroit tastes as the head of the Vibes New & Rare Music record store. Theo Parrish, Glenn Underground and Marcellus Pittman all contributed, whilst the compilation also worked as a platform to introduce newer names such as Kyle Hall and Ricardo Miranda. A second volume is most welcome and expands Wilhite's remit to include music by producers from Detroit, Chicago and New York. The first of two double editions kicks off with a sublime production from Blaze's Josh Milan and doesn't let up on the heat, with Jovonn, K Alexi and a collaborative cut from Wilhite and Norm Talley amongst the highlights.

Review: On this third EP of cuts from Rick Wilhite's essential Vibes New & Rare Music compilation, Marc King, TJ and DJ Raybone take centre stage. King's "Can You Feel It" is a real highlight, a delightful chunk of emotion-rich deep house that benefits from the attractions of a heavy analogue bassline, heartfelt vocal and old skool organ stabs. TJ and Raybone's "Gone" provides more typically Detroitian deep house - think Beatdown with sprightlier melodies - while the Raybone/Wilhite (the latter under his Godson guise) collab "Nova 2" adds some low-slung electric bass into the mix to impressive effect. High class all round, but did you seriously expect anything less?

Review: On its initial release in 2010, Rick Wilhite's Vibes New & Rare Music collection picked up plenty of plaudits, not least for its delicious mix of stargazing deep house from Chicago and Detroit. Here, Wilhite presents an album sampler featuring three suitably gorgeous cuts from the near-essential LP. There's a dash of simmering deep house-jazz from Glenn Underground ("Ninja"), a beatdown-meets-classic jack track from Vincent Halliburton ("Something I Feel") and a chunk of pleasing analogue deepness from Marcellus Pittman ("In Due Time"). If you missed the album first time round, now's the time to dive in.
