Review: A dash of Trans-Atlantic collaboration here, as Miami-based Mexican (and Tour de Infinite founder) Rigopolar joins forces with Discoteca Seduction founder Disto Disco for the first time. Lead cut 'Untitled' joins the dots between driving, punk-funk-influenced dub disco, dark disco and trance-infused nu-disco, while 'Spaced Out' is a harder-edged and more rave-igniting slab of arpeggio-driven electronic disco that comes complete with robotic vocals. The latter is impressively remixed by Phunkadelica, whose revision is a strobe-lit peak-time treat, while 'Untitled' is reworked twice. First Colossio & Cabizbajo recall the halcyon days of "new rave" on a growling guitar-flecked revision, before Childs delivers a deliciously chugging, shoegaze-influenced wall-of-sound take that may be the EP's most inspired moment.

Review: This EP from Manuel Castaneda is sitting in our Disco section, but the Miami-based Mexican describes his sound as "mixing up Italo, disco, techno and wave music" and that probably gives you a better idea of what to expect from the four tracks here, most of which would work equally well on more leftfield-leaning disco floors, as warm-up fodder in techno or progressive house clubs, or as small-hours excursions in deep house spots. So let's forget about genres entirely, file the lot under "mesmerising, slow-burning electronic grooves with a strong sci-fi influence" and have done with it.

Review: Theus Mago's Duro label decides to look back on the last-half decade with glee in this Hard Five Retrospective bringing together a huge compilation to help remind us what life's gonna be like when we're allowed back on the dancefloor! Not just bells and whistles, Duro keeps its flavours deep with cuts from Rigopolar in the Jean Michel Jarre/coldwave vibes of "Espiral" matched by the heavy beats and juicy basslines of Max Jones's "Poche". Earlier on you'll find some rare Tyu jams - our pick being the Espacio remix to "Stephen Hawking" - next to a selection of choice Bufi cuts (we recommended the Mio remix), with Mago going deep himself in the groove-centric "Luna". Other dope jams include Bruha's 808-driven "Ladra", Sascha Funke's remix to Motel77 and Rina & Benji killer workout "Koshmaro".

Review: In the depths of Melbourne's northside once laid a club called My Aeon and coincidence or not this is the type of soundtrack you'd expect to hear there...a futuristic selection of minimal, progressive techno and synth music appealing to the dancer. WIth a slight Italo feel permeating parts of the compilation, arpeggios, electro synths and EBM drums find their way into tracks like Alex Niggemann's "What Can Go Wrong?!" and Alan Dixon 'Love Attack' remix of Kimshies! Trippy tribal sessions are revealed in Ferrari's "Jungle Boogie" next to Rotterdam-style cosmic electro and space rock of Biesmans' "Dr. Electric" guitar. 2020 licks, best of!

Review: We are always excited when new stuff comes in from the Duro camp. The Mexican label welcomes homeboy (now New York City-based) Menio Brown aka Rigopolar with an EP packed full of his moody and expansive disco tunes. This follows up releases/remixes on Tom Tom Disco, Beat is Murder, Nein and Roam Recordings. The We Are One EP features lo-slung, cosmo/psychedelic journeys such as "Black Mantis" or "Crashes", but he gets back to old old tricks on the late night, dark side boogie-down antics of "Espiral" or the neo-noir EBM pulsations offered up on "Time".

Review: In normal circumstances, we'd be a little worried if someone served us "Golden Cream". We know we're safe in the hands of DJ/producer James Rodriguez though, with the compilation representing the cream of the crop from the Spanish producer's Golden Soul Records imprint. There's naturally much to enjoy across the 17-track collection, with Rodriguez opting for cuts that flit between kaliedoscopic nu-disco headiness (Italo Brutalo's remix of his and Disco Doubles' "White Sands"), Clavinet-happy acid disco chunkiness ("Crazy Bass" by The Players and DJ Steevo), elastic electrofunk with a Middle Eastern flavour (Dim Zach's remix of JB Dizzy's "Transistor"), driving late night intensity (Los Fugazi's "Afterglow (Flxxx Remix)", peak-time piano fun (Get Down Edits glistening remix of Slync's loved-up "Neon") and rushing disco goodness ("Tradlord" by Call Me Classic).

Review: To celebrate five years of releasing new wave-inspired, left-of-centre goodness, Madrid's Play Pal Music has put together this celebratory compilation of previously unheard treats from the label's growing roster of artists. As you'd expect, the tone is dark, druggy and psychedelic from the word go, with Rambal Cochet's hallucinatory, slo-mo opener "Dark Caravan" neatly signposting what's to come. There are of course plenty less intense moments scattered throughout the compilation - see the tasty tracks by Did Virgo and Amevicious, Vereno and Club Bizarre, for starters - but a low-slung, heavyweight jam is never far away. To our ears, the best examples come from Curses (the wonky disco-punk of "More Cherry Pie"), Theus Mago (the Motorik throb of "Low Cost Interstellar Drive") and Nozz (grandiose soundtrack Italo throb-job "Clock").

Review: LA's Rigopolar is an 80s-inspired dude who makes grade A space-disco. His latest, Tour De Mal, arrives courtesy of Tom Tom Disco and what a treat it is! The EP opens with the trancey new beat swing of "Need You" (which borders on Chemical Brothers territory a bit). "La Mal" is the kind of deep and dirty drone-disco that Ivan Smagge or Chloe love and it's awesome. "Youth" meanwhile, is a slower, loop based hypno house odyssey. Then heavy hitter Rodion arrives brandishing a trademark sinister acid grind of a remix and it all kicks off. Ace.

Review: Based in Los Angeles, Rigopolar is a space disco producer with a deep love of '80s synth sounds. There are five themed jams here; both "Sistema Lunar I" and "Sistema Lunar II" both go to town on moody arpeggiation, the former is deliciously fuzzed-out warm Italo (think Skatebard at his deepest), whilst the latter opts for an accelerated hiNRG route a la Alden Tyrell in his prime. Elsewhere "Sistema Lunar III" delves into eerie suspension like a housier Red Axes and "Sistema Lunar IV" combines movie samples with raw, looped early house grooves. Finally V wraps things up with some melancholic EDM balladry in the style of Kavinsky or M83. Classy stuff.
