Review: Shinedoe has commissioned remixes of key tracks from her acclaimed Freedom Riders album. Truncate's take on "Expressionisme" isn't as tough as his own material, but it does marry one of his typically loopy grooves with the original track's synth melodies. Ritzi Lee also strays out of his comfort zone to rework "Shine", putting the focus on tribal drums and razor-sharp percussion. Keith Carnal transforms Shinedoe's recent single, "Wake Up" into a relentless, driving track, but it's the exception rather than the rule for this release. Lawrence's version of "So It Is" closes out the EP, with the German producer delivering a dizzyingly hypnotic take.

Review: Celebrating their tenth anniversaries, Mord and RYC deliver this superb compilation. Given the depth and breadth of their collective experience, this collection spans a range of sounds and styles. At the deeper end of the spectrum, there's the wonderful 90s melodies of Ritzi Lee's "Neutropia" and Amotik's "Laal", where hypnotic, Sleeparchive-esque tones bubble up over a stripped back groove. On a break beat tip, Uvb's "Mortifere" is a dense, mesmerising club track, while Brendon Moeller's "Hot Pursuit" resounds to a clanging, steely rhythm. The compilation has no shortage of club tracks either: there's the all-encompassing tonal builds of Bas Mooy's "Vedette", Kaiser's coruscating minimalism on "Disciplined Soldiers" and the gloomy industrial breaks of Orphx's "Slipping Through My Fingers".

Review: Bas Mooy's label brings together an impressive cast of producers for its latest compilation. The ominous bass on Mascon's "Nenner" lends the track an ebm sensibility, while Exium's "Dark Voids" is more in keeping with convention, fuelled by powerful filters and a steely, slamming rhythm. While there are intense contributions - in particular, Antony Doria's "Uprite" is visceral hard techno at its finest - Herdersmat impresses most when contributing artists provide their own interpretations of sub-genres. Takaaki Itoh's "Implement" is a mesmerising piece of hypnotic, droning techno, while on "Hdmt" UVB delivers a compelling version of Downwards' broken beat sound, replete with swirling textures.

Review: Ritzi Lee rounds off his trilogy for MORD with this hard-edged EP. "Control" is a visceral banger: powered by pitch-bent percussion and tough kicks, these elements play host to grinding electronic riffs. "Genesis" isn't as grimy and sees Lee deliver firing hi hats and insistent tonal bleeps to devastating effect. Meanwhile, "Wired" is exactly as its title suggests, with a wall of repetitive riffs unfolding over a percussive workout, while on "Re-Formation", Lee deploys the kind of stepping rhythm that one would associate with Oscar Mulero. Closing out the trilogy in style, "Humanized" is a dense, ghetto-style banger that reaffirms Lee's status as a purveyor of tough techno.

Review: Ben Sims builds on the first Synchronicity instalment with another compelling collection of emerging techno producers. Kerrie and Szmer's contributions both draw on minimal techno for inspiration, with the former following an acid-laced path and the latter incorporating repetitive bleeps and haunting synths into the arrangement. The compilation takes a Detroit turn on Insolate's "Night Love" - a blurry, jittery slice of techno with shades of Juan Atkins and Terrence Dixon. Meanwhile, a deeper but still dance floor sound is audible on Private Press' "Wiadomo Driven", where bleeps and tones fly off the rigid rhythm at random. Reflecting Sims' own tough but diverse DJ sound, Synchronicity also throws out some curve balls, like the dubbed out "Rectifier Direct" from A Thousand Details.

Review: Ritzi Lee follows 2016's Audiologics release on Mord with this storming affair. It starts in fine form with "Refactored". A rolling, tribal techno affair, similar to vintage Ben Sims, its dramatic filters and dense kicks make for a powerful combination. On "9 am", he goes down a minimal route, with razor sharp, metallic riffs underpinned by a driving rhythm. "Lucid State" is less intense, as scratchy percussive elements support a dubbed out groove. It's only a short respite however; "Invected Machine" sees Lee bounce back with a peak time, angular rhythm before he embarks down the filtered route again on "Entangled".

Review: The latest release on Bas Mooy's label comes from the techno force of nature that is Ritzi Lee. In stark contrast to the modern drone-led style or even some of the tougher industrial variants, Lee's sound is unpredictable and at times lo-fi. "Traction" is a hype-speed ride through rolling techno, underpinned by warped acid and waves of noisy percussion. "Framework" is in a similar vein, but borrows from jacking ghetto techno. "Progress" and "The Challenge" also flirt with unusual structures. The former is Lee's take on minimal house, viewed through a noisy, crunchy prism, while on the latter, he uses a doubled up vocal sample and shifting, panning percussion to create a woozy, queasy sound.

Review: This is Mord's most ambitious venture to date, with a box set of seven records laying out the Dutch imprint's tough techno agenda. Regulars like UVB and Radial set the tone, with the former dropping brutish kicks and jarring riffs on "Someone Calling Cut" and Radial veering into a pumping direction on "Cru".Label owner Bas Mooy moves the compilation towards a more streamlined approach with the dense, linear Klockworks-like "Owl In Daylight", but Herdersmat also shows that the label has succeeded in attracting some heavyweight international talent; Eomac's "Phisk" is a disorienting rave-flecked stepper and Sleeparchive drops the bleep-heavy bomb that is "Evicted".

Review: Ben Sims's label delivers a diverse but hard-hitting three-tracker. The label boss is first up and "Bite This" sees him sever the links with his loopy past. It's still a repetitive track, but as its basis Sims deploys a pulsing electronic groove and firing percussion, while a malevolent riff makes the transition from jarring and abrasive to atmospheric and eerie. Ritzi Lee travels a similar path on "Reverse Processed", where snappy percussion and a nagging bassline underpin metallic stabs and jarring riffs that reach out into the darkness. By contrast, Paul Mac's "Dry Run" is a more soulful experience. Despite the proliferation of spiky, metallic drums, it's the screeching, slightly deranged male vocal that stands out.
