Review: London-based avant-garde and experimental electronics label Erased Tapes presents a new compilation encompassing a cross-section of the label's 15 year history, including hidden gems and previously unreleased material which will coincide with specially curated festivals in its home city, as well as Berlin. Highlights include "Them Is Us" by label staple Rival Consoles who takes you on a sublime downbeat journey, Anne Muller's sombre neo-classical piece "Nummer 2", the off-kilter jazz of Daniel Brandt's "Flamingo", as well as Kevin Richard Martin (aka The Bug) and Japanese voice artist Hatis Noit's paranormal ambient piece "After The Storm". Also, Douglas Dare's evocative vocals on "Heavenly Bodies" (feat. London Contemporary Orchestra) made for another standout offering.

Review: Sasha brings us collection of tracks that have featured in his Spotify playlist series of the same name, which is oriented towards midtempo, contemplative but still beats-driven cuts spanning breaks, ambient and leftfield electronica. While much is being made of this "new direction", a more cynical observer might say it's the first CD of 'Northern Exposure' plus drums; all the same, there's much to enjoy here if you're in a laidback kinda mood, with standouts including MJ Cole's haunting, fractured 'Maestro' and Cortese's 'Circles' with its air of restrained menace. The album also includes two fresh cuts from The Man Like himself, 'Corner Shop' and recent single 'HDNI'.

Review: New waves of ambi-motional techno and progressive trance once again make its way to Erased Tapes. Ryan Lee West's Rival Consoles project, a staple throughout the Erased Tapes discography, returns with the stargazing streaks of euphoria that is Articulation. With pinging synth lines and percussive rhythms helping to sequence the euphoria of '90s rave and trance motifs in "Forwardism" and "Sudden Awareness Of Now", harder kick drums and broken grooves are introduced to "Vibrations On A String" and "Articulation" itself. Find some classic uplifting synth-ambient in "Still Here" with an ear bath waiting to happen in "Melodica".

Review: Much like the Fabric mix series, Late Night Tales has been a staple of the British compilation dynasty, and the label has somehow managed to consistently call upon some of the world's biggest and most interesting talents to demonstrate their skills behind the DJ decks, and to give us a tiny view into their tastes and influences. Iceland's Olafur Arnalds, a lo-fi artist who has steadily released nothing but quality on the Erased Tapes label, is asked to do the honours for the catalogu's 44th instelment, and we are seriously digging what this dude is into. Electronica is a bit of a cop-out term to describe this gear, but there is just so much diversity in here that it's simply impossible to categorise it under one roof. Maybe sci-fi electro soul would be a good term, as it manages to capture the mood and feel of these beautiful songs by the likes of Koreless, Jamie XX via Four Tet, Samaris, Arnois, and Arnalds' own music. Spot on once again, Late Night Tales!
