Review: Robert Ouimet has some serious pedigree - the Montreal native has been manning the booths of Canadian discotheques since the early 70s! It's not entirely clear whether the four tracks featured here - which are finally getting a digital release after dropping on vinyl last year - are original productions or re-edits. If they fall into the latter camp, then he's dug admirably deep for source material, but then he's uniquely positioned to do so; if they're original cuts he's captured that mid-late 70s disco vibe perfectly but then, again, that's hardly surprising! Either way, this is some real-deal shizzle right here.

Review: Last year, Montreal scene stalwart and original disco DJ/remixer Robert Ouimet surprisingly returned to action with a trio of rework singles released by Basic Fingers and Whiskey Disco. Here he marks his first appearance on Alpaca Edits with another quartet of tried-and-tested re-rubs. He starts in confident fashion via the bouncy, string-drenched and bass-heavy disco brilliance of "Blow Your Whistle", before closing his eyes and reaching for the flanged disco-funk guitars on the celebratory stomp of "Super Slick". His love of rock-fired disco heaviness is explored further on standout rework "Finger Lickin", while closing cut "Good Time Crescendo" is a soaring, feel-good disco number that more than lives up to the promise of its title.

Review: Authentic 1970s disco survivor Robert Ouimet set pulses racing last September with a quality collection of club-ready re-edits on Basic Fingers. Here the Canadian veteran offers up a three-track sequel that's every bit as essential. First up is "Come Party", a strings and sax-laden chunk of soaring peak-time disco that rises and falls majestically over eight action-packed minutes. He ups the tempo on the energetic and suspense-filled Blaxploitation disco workout "Where's Eugene", while "Rob Can't Stop" is a deliciously heavy, sweaty and full-throttle affair built around deep synths, frenetic percussion chops, excitable slap-bass and just the right amount of celebratory vocal snippets.

Review: Canada's Robert Ouimet (also known sometimes as Robert Quimet) is a bona fide survivor of the disco era, his DJ and production career dating all the way back to 1973. Who better, then, to update three forgotten 70s nuggets for 21st century dancefloors? 'GC Will Make You Dance' is a celebratory take on GC Cameron's 'This Will Make You Dance' from 1976, 'Got To Find The Love' a loopy, high-octane edit of Love Exchange's 'Got To Find A Disco' (1978), while finally 'She's A Runner' (source unknown) is a slightly more sultry groover with strings set to 'dancefloor euphoria'.
