Just like on all his other projects he's dug deeper to present gems the label say may have until now slipped under the garage doors (i.e. haven't yet been granted digital immortality). Highlights of these 26 rarities include Robert Owens' smooth n' sultry synth jam "Gotta Work", the bitchy disco of "Unique" by Danube Dance & Kim Cooper and the raw attitude of Mike Delgado's "The Murder Track". With this fine release, who needs a time machine?

Review: Two true legends of gloriously soulful house music united, with a host of quality remixes included too. Featured here as the 'classic' mix, DJ Spen's collaboration with vocalist Robert Owens still sparkles with warm Rhodes piano and gospel vocals to the fore. The Layabouts bring it into 2010 with a deep and minimal-tech groove that provides an icy soundbed for Owens' vocals to cut through. By contrast, Brazil's DJ Meme flips it into a Love Unlimited-style disco classic with gorgeous strings layered over club beats. The 'reprise' version included is a particular gem - an edit of Meme's mix with just the strings, keys and vocals present that's guaranteed to have your heart soaring. The Groove Assassins stay closest to the original by subtly tightening up the beats and sharpening the rhythms into something that works well for 2010. With various dubs and instrumentals available, it's a DJs dream package and a great re-release of a seriously soulful masterpiece.

A big 'un!

Review: This is big: a collaboration between Balearic nu-disc heavyweight Pete Herbert and "the voice of house" himself, Robert Owens. In its original form, "Pass Me By" is bubbly and attractive, with Owens' adding deep, soulful and emotion-rich vocals to a sparkling, synth-heavy backing track that effortlessly joins the dots between freestyle, proto-house and Italo-disco. The equally impressive remix package is headed up by two fine reworks from Daniele Baldelli and DJ Rocca: a chugging, undulating cosmic disco vocal version and a spaced-out, groove-driven Dub that hits home hard despite the lack of Owens' full vocal. Elsewhere, Aussie adventurer Dr Packer gives it an electrofunk flavoured house makeover and Pete Herbert turns in a fluid, Balearic-inspired rework full of heady synth lines and tumbling pianos.

Review: Since Fred Everything has a track record of making rather good deep house, and vocalist Robert Owens has a bigger claim than most to be "the voice of house", you'd expect this 'I'll Take You In' to be rather good. It is, of course, with the pair conjuring up a warming, musically detailed chunk of deep house bliss that sounds like a saucer-eyed update of Dubtribe Soundsystem's 'Do It Now'. Fred Everything also provides two fine 'BDTW' mixes: the fluttering synths sounds and vintage Chicago house grooves of the 'Deep Mix', and a more stripped-back 'Vox Dub'. Best of all though is Martin 'Atjazz' Iveson's rework, which recalls the fluid synth sounds, jazzy flutes and intricate percussion programming that marked out his early 2000s work on Mantis Recordings.

Review: Poker Flat Recordings are back with another collaboration between label boss Steve Bug and industry veteran Cle (Martini Bros), with the addition of the legendary Robert Owens who brings his deeply soulful voice to the track "Not In Vain". The Windy City icon's unmistakeable, smooth- as-silk vocals will captivate you, against a perfect backdrop of slinky and hypnotic dub techno. The dub version does not omit the vocals, rather the mesmerising chords of the original to create a sensual and emotive deep house number - which is perfect mood music for the warm-up or afterhours alike.

Review: More than a few eyebrows were raised - and dancefloors slain, more importantly - when Soul Clap's collaboration with legendary house vocalist Robert Owens first appeared in stores back in 2015. This expansive new reissue gathers together the pick of first wave reworks (most notably the fuzzy, sub-heavy, analogue-rich stomp of Louie Vega's "Swirl Bass" version and chugging, punk-funk-meets-dub house inspired "Roots NYC Mix"), adding a string of tasty new reworks. Of these, we're particularly enjoying the subtly dreamy bliss of Rogue D's remix and the more organic feel of the standout "Hammer & Tongs Mix", though Rocco Rodamaal's "Deep Remix", which wraps delay-laden electric piano flourishes around a rubbery Afro-house rhythm, is also superb.

Review: Fred Everything's recent collaboration with the undisputed "voice of house", Robert Owens, was exceptional: a nostalgic chunk of vocal deep house greatness that boasted a number of sonic nods towards the hippy-house brilliance of San Francisco's Dubtribe Soundsystem. Here the Canadian offers up two new mixes inspired by classic Chicagoan acid house. The single-opening 'BDTW Acid Mix' adds Owens' inspiring vocals to an immersive backing track rich in wriggling TB-303 acid lines, chunky acid bass, crunchy, jacking beats and starry, deep space chords. Arguably even better is the accompanying 'Acid Dub', in which selected snippets of Owens' vocals rise above rougher, more angular acid lines, even more jacking drums and some deliciously glassy-eyed musical flourishes.

Review: Following their 2019 collaboration, Jamie Anderson and Robert Owens come together again on Fossil Archive. In its original form, the title track sees Anderson conjure up a deep, rolling techno groove. Underpinned by tough claps and niggling percussion, these elements provide a basis for the house legend's soulful, seductive vocals. It makes for an alluring combination. The release also features a series of remixes, including a peak-time, percussive version from label owner Roberto as RMK. Working under his Fossil Archive guise, Roberto drops a moody electro take and a hypnotic dub version that sees Owens's vocals unfold over tripped out synths and dubbed out claps. Meanwhile, Roberto's main remix as Fossil Archive is a deep, Detroit-style roller that is sure to have maximum impact.
