Review: Roberto continues his incredible run of releases on his Fossil Archive label with another standout EP. The title track, which features a vocal contribution from ZaaZaa, is a soulful, acid-soaked groove, positioned at the intersection between deep house and crafty techno. "Bridgetown" sees Roberto opt for a more stripped back approach to deliver a lean, tribal track, while the house influence comes to the fore again on "Follow The River". Powered by a booming bass and heavy claps, these elements provide the platform for Roberto to conjure up building acid lines. Rounding off this superb EP is the deep, esoteric techno of "Chimera".

Review: Veteran producer Stephen Brown teams up with Fossil Archive boss Roberto for a fine, diverse release. "Control C" is a stripped back workout that resounds to insistent bleeps and steely hi hats. Meanwhile on "3D World", the pair opt for a radically different approach; fuelled by swirling pads and airy strings, these lush elements combine to create a deeper vision for techno. "More House" is redolent of the type of building, jacking grooves that appeared on 90s label Ideal Trax, with a focus on grainy kicks and surging chords. Focusing on a more esoteric approach, Roberto and Brown then move into deep Detroit territories with the mournful "Travel".

Review: Berlin imprint Fachwerk has continually set high standards in techno for nigh on twelve years now. Its output particularly the early 2010's heralded a new era in German techno alongside established local imprints such as Klockworks, Vidab and MDR. It's steely, refined and austere aesthetic is on fine display on the fourth edition of the label's new digital reissue, containing material from the early vinyl releases FW031 - FW038, including unreleased special edits. All the usual suspects appear: label staple Roman Lindau delivers a barrelling rework of UK producer Roberto's "Rings Of Smoke" in proper heads down fashion, the ever impressive Sascha Rydell delivers more reductionist club music executed boldly on "Haptic", label chief Mike Dehnert finely shows off exactly what high-end dub-techno is on "Placide" while label newcomer Jens Tozzberg does ultra deep on the cavernous and glacial hypnotism of "Baritum".

Review: Roberto aka Rob Kirkaldy has already gained recognition with releases on his own Fossil Archiv label, but makes the transition into the premier league with this outing for Rekids. "The Jester" starts off the release in epic form as chords surge and build over whiplash percussion and robust kicks. "Tonic" is just as impressive, with filtered stabs and chilling strings unravelling over a dense, linear rhythm, while on "The Days Are Longer Now", the emerging UK producer delivers a frosty melodic sequence against a back drop of steely percussion and tough kicks. Rounding off the release is the title track, an atmospheric, downtempo workout that has shades of Carl Craig

Review: Fossil Archive is the brainchild of Rob Kirkaldy aka Roberto. To date, it has almost exclusively featured the work of the London DJ / producer, but its sixth installment sees him collaborating with Roman Lindau. The title track is a visceral, peak-time track; revolving around a clanging rhythm and supported by rough kick drums, it remains funky and swinging, in spite of its pace. The label owner flies solo on "Triage", where there is a considerable change in mood. The sound is more spacious and cavernous, with hollowed out drums and an elastic rhythm to the fore, but it is just as impactful as "Nerinea Trinodosa".

Review: The appearance of Smoke is timely for German label Fachwerk. Its catalogue had become too serious and dry, and this collaboration between UK producer Roberto and vocalist Envoy injects some much-needed soul to the label's driving dub techno sound. This combination proves seductive on the title track, with the singer's edgier than usual tones teased out over layers of dark chords and hypnotic bass pulses. "You Will Rise Again" sees the duo go deeper, with heavy drums and eerie synths supporting spooky but soulful tones. In case Fachwerk fans are bored with these deliberations, then Mike Dehnert and Roman Lindau both deliver remixes of the title track, full of insistent filters, driving percussion and boisterous bass licks.
