Review: Toy Tonics' latest release is a captivating collection of tracks originally introduced to the world via the German Gomma Records label during the years 2001 to 2010. Back then, Gomma stood as a pivotal figure in the Y2K indie dance movement, alongside luminaries such as James Murphy's DFA and Trevor Jackson's OUTPUT Records. Toy Tonics has taken it upon themselves to revive these early 2000s gems, with tracks encapsulating the raw, indie disco and punk-funk vibes that were the lifeblood of the party scene during those vibrant days. Gomma's influence was profoundly felt in off-location clubs like SCALA and RIO in Berlin, London's TRASH and 333 parties, to iconic Parisian clubs like Kill The DJ and Paris Social Club.

Review: In keeping with the approach favoured by previous volumes, the third edition of From Above covers a lot of ground. Despite this, it also manages to maintain a cohesive identity: tracks from Danse Alice, Roe Deers and Justine Forever - whose "Viral" is peppered with seductive French vocals - may differ in tempo, but all resound to a throbbing, electronic aesthetic. There are some exceptions to this rule, most notably Damien Vandesande's downtempo "Star Glide". However, it's only a minor deviation and a similar feeling is audible on non-dance floor moments like C.A.R.'s torch song "Silk Pistol" and the haunting electro disco of Frontinn's "Correct Settings".

Review: A round of applause for Dave Harvey's Futureboogie label, which is closing its doors after a decade in which it's releases got stronger and more varied year on year. This superb compilation acts as the imprint's final testament, offering no less than 20 previously unheard nuggets from the Bristol-based imprint's nearest and dearest. Given the wealth of high-grade material on show, singling out highlights is tough, but our current favourites include the echoing,'80s alternative pop-meets-proto house dubbiness of Tech Support's 'Writers Block', the alien synths, glassy-eyed stabs and bustling electro drums of Warehouse Preservation Society's 'Ron's House', the kaleidoscopic house psychedelia of Manami's 'Nacros.Is', the bleeping, drug-fuelled oddness of Chez De Milo's 'Need Someone' and the breakbeat-acid insanity of Hard Ton's 'Don't Believe The Hype'.
