Review: Many congratulations to PIV, a well-regarded house label that has now been offering up a diverse blend of classy cuts - many inspired by, in their words, "the classic era of US house" - for five years. To celebrate this landmark, the label's Dutch and Indonesian founders have scoured the archives and put together a 15-track selection of highlights so far. There's much to enjoy throughout, with highlights including the rolling, tech-tinged deep house warmth of Prunk's 'Dreams', the squelchy bass and starry chords of Djoko's early morning favourite 'Planet Groove', the Swag style, loose-limbed tech-house-funk of Toman's 'Surfin', and the ultra-melodious, mid-90s New Jersey garage-influenced deep-tech loveliness of 'Bolt' by Ruze.

Full Swing EP
Full Swing - (7:03) 124 BPM
F.A.K.E - (6:20) 123 BPM
Connection - (6:23) 122 BPM Hot
Review: Roland Nights, AKA Danny Stott, has been a staple of the UK deep house scene for years now, and his latest offering is this three-track EP for veteran Chicago label Large Music. 'Full Swing' itself is up first, an understated but still pretty lively affair that puts haunting piano and snatches of near-falsetto soulful vocal front and centre. 'F.A.K.E' is a more bumping cut, underpinned by a phat-assed bassline and topped with a male voice talking about "fake news, fake music, fake DJs", while finally 'Connection' is a sparse, garage-y number made for getting lost in on small-hours dancefloors.

Chinook
Citra - (6:12) 122 BPM Hot
Chinook - (7:08) 124 BPM
Cascade - (7:11) 122 BPM
Review: New deep house goodness from Danny Stott aka Roland Nights on his own Nightsounds imprint, and that means only one thing in our mind...quality. The thing about Roland Nights is that he's deep and tech simultaneously, an effective house sound that spans different moods and styles, such as the supremely sleek "Citra", a house warmer with a subtle disco sensibility at its core. "Chinook" is more slamming, a drum-heavy beatdown propelled forwards by a low, dubby bassline, and this is all rounded off in fine style by "Cascade", a swinging house beauty that verges ever so closely to garage thanks to its sublime drums. Powerful, effective, and recommended house tools.
