Down In 1150
Chaos In 1150 (original mix) - (0:57) 81 BPM
Review: On Down in 1150, Vienna based, Secret Crunch head honcho Roman Rauch pushes his distinctive style of house music forward. The EP features six tracks of pure funky vibes, rugged beats and catchy vocal sampling. From the dusty and lo-slung soul explosion of "Dont Tell", the sexy late-night mood lighting (with a nod to Kenny Dixon Jr) on "Don't Know" to moments of irresistible slo-mo deepness as explored on "Down To Love You". Rauch has got this shizzle on lockdown, proper. An honourable mention to Intr0beatz with his sexy rendition of "Don't Know" (Doesn't Know Either remix).

One Split Wonder
Moony Me - "Resig Nation" - (2:45) 85 BPM
Review: Secret Crunch is Vienna based label run by moody house master Roman Rauch of Philpot and Quintessentials fame, with Moony Me of Toy Tonics and Uncanny Valley. Both musically rooted in hip-hop, soul, funk and disco, but expressing themselves mainly through the gospel of house music. Secret Crunch follows up with a second release entitled One Split Wonder. Rauch serves up the classic vocal house of "Don't You Try" and the emotive and sultry deepness of "Boogie Trip" channelling that Windy City vibe of the mid '90s. Moony Me's contributions are "Screwdriver" where one razor sharp and bouncy bassline leads the way over tough DJ Sneak style beats (just wait 'til those Derrick May style organs come rushing in!) and "Love Deserter"
which goes for that dusty, MPC style deep hop which will appeal to fans of Glenn Astro.

Ill Dubio - "Horn Up" - (2:05) 85 BPM
Review: Pablo Valentino's Faces label gets 2016 off to a flyer with a rather hefty double LP compilation called Le Sampler Des Copains. Translating simply as The Friends Sampler, this ten track compilation features productions from friends old and new of the label and will appeal to anyone that likes their house deep, soulful and all about the groove. Nestled inbetween are the occasional interlude of a slower tempo that ensures the label's roots in instrumental hip hop are not forgotten. Roman Rauch, Not Danilo (Plessow?), Simbad and Valentino himself contribute tracks along the way, and S3A set the tone with the burning, insistent house business of "Boiler Lyon (The Ravist's Face)". The superbly titled "My Tax Agent Fucked It Up" from Not Danilo is the best cut here for many more reasons than the name. That bassline, pow!

Fire From The Sky
Philta & Roman Rauch - "Dry Your Eyes" (feat Anya Stuart) - (5:42) 83 BPM
Philta & Roman Rauch - "Dry Your Eyes" (instrumental) - (5:41) 83 BPM
Review: Vienna-based Nu-jazzers Philta have really pulled something special out of the bag on their latest release "Fire From The Sky". Similar to Herbert or very early Moloko, they ooze freshness and creativity and aren't afraid to do things a little different ? which pays off when the tunes are of this calibre. Opener "How Far" sets the bar high, with broken beats and wah-wah'd synths creating a soundbed for vocalist Fleur to lay down a seriously soulful vocal. Rapper and singer J-Todd joins in on title track Fire From The Sky, which is a thumping yet slick new-school Hip-Hop tune that makes Outkast seem like a distant memory.

Elsewhere, the Josip Klobucar mix of Dry Your Eyes is a berserk bit of mid-tempo fun, with the vocal struggling through a sea of strings and synths, as well as some punchy studio drums. The original is also included here too and sounds equally awesome with some chopped up Amen-soundalike drums crashing away throughout. On a different vibe, Don't Waste uses a simple two-chord pattern and Electro beat to devastating effect, again with Fleur working wonders over the top of it all.

With instrumentals available of all the big tunes, this could be an album that will stay with you for a long time and demand repeat listening
