Dayglow (Shuya Okino & ROOT SOUL remix) - (6:01) 116 BPM Hot
Review: A truly international affair as Croatian producer Eddy Ramich and his Austrian oppo Roman Rauch join forces with UK vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Pete Josef for a single on German label Sonar Kollektiv. Josef's wistful soulful vocal may nudge a little too close to pop territory for some, but if you're down with the vox you do get two quite different mixes to choose from, with the Original a light n' fluffy 'beach house'-like affair while Shuya Okino & ROOT SOUL's remix (my pick) adds a fat funk bassline and live-sounding drums, and as such may have more immediate floor appeal.

Review: On Down in 1150, Vienna based, Secret Crunch head honcho Roman Rauch pushes his distinctive style of house music forward. The EP features six tracks of pure funky vibes, rugged beats and catchy vocal sampling. From the dusty and lo-slung soul explosion of "Dont Tell", the sexy late-night mood lighting (with a nod to Kenny Dixon Jr) on "Don't Know" to moments of irresistible slo-mo deepness as explored on "Down To Love You". Rauch has got this shizzle on lockdown, proper. An honourable mention to Intr0beatz with his sexy rendition of "Don't Know" (Doesn't Know Either remix).

Review: As you'd expect, the latest volume in Dirt Crew's regular Deep Love compilation series features far more hits than misses. As with previous installments in the long-running series, Deep Love 2017 is mostly made up of previously unheard material from label favourites and like-minded guest producers. Highlights come thick and fast throughout, and include the horn-laden Latin disco-house brilliance of M.ono's "Jamas", the jazzy, Compost style broken beat deepness of Felix Leifur's "Record", the loved-up shuffle of Loz Goddard's impeccable "Now is Where We Are" and a touch of 21st century jazz-funk/deep house fusion by Ponty Mython. Also worth a listen is the contribution from Sheffield beat-smith Thatmanmonkz, who once again delivers a hazy chunk of ultra-deep, soul-flecked dancefloor bliss.

Review: Secret Crunch is Vienna based label run by moody house master Roman Rauch of Philpot and Quintessentials fame, with Moony Me of Toy Tonics and Uncanny Valley. Both musically rooted in hip-hop, soul, funk and disco, but expressing themselves mainly through the gospel of house music. Secret Crunch follows up with a second release entitled One Split Wonder. Rauch serves up the classic vocal house of "Don't You Try" and the emotive and sultry deepness of "Boogie Trip" channelling that Windy City vibe of the mid '90s. Moony Me's contributions are "Screwdriver" where one razor sharp and bouncy bassline leads the way over tough DJ Sneak style beats (just wait 'til those Derrick May style organs come rushing in!) and "Love Deserter"
which goes for that dusty, MPC style deep hop which will appeal to fans of Glenn Astro.

Review: Pablo Valentino's Faces label gets 2016 off to a flyer with a rather hefty double LP compilation called Le Sampler Des Copains. Translating simply as The Friends Sampler, this ten track compilation features productions from friends old and new of the label and will appeal to anyone that likes their house deep, soulful and all about the groove. Nestled inbetween are the occasional interlude of a slower tempo that ensures the label's roots in instrumental hip hop are not forgotten. Roman Rauch, Not Danilo (Plessow?), Simbad and Valentino himself contribute tracks along the way, and S3A set the tone with the burning, insistent house business of "Boiler Lyon (The Ravist's Face)". The superbly titled "My Tax Agent Fucked It Up" from Not Danilo is the best cut here for many more reasons than the name. That bassline, pow!

Review: Vienna's Roman Rauch has appeared previously on Endless Flight, Philpot and Tenderpark thus far. Not bad going for someone that's only been on the scene a few years. This new one is on Amsterdam's Intimate Friends, run by the legendary Marcel Vogel no less. "Essig Jazz" is a dusty, slo-mo, urban favoured house jam that would appeal to Three Chairs fans as it would Max Graef of Glenn Astro. Speaking of which; who better to get in for a remix than the latter. Astro's take is equally as dusty (of course!) but more upbeat and with uplifting piano stabs and hip-hop samples... Overall it's the hip-hop style which makes it; but wait 'til that wacky synth solo comes rushing in! "Got To Be" featuring the sweet slam poetry of Caits Meissner keeps the rough and urban aesthetic intact while "Slowswing" is a gorgeous deep house workout with swirling Rhodes piano and sweet strings atop of female vocal samples.

Review: Killer four track EP of sumptuous deepness here from the Much Love imprint, with James Johnston, Alkalino, Alphabet City, Bartellow and Roman Rauch all stepping up to the plate with uptempo house jams. Johnston's title track takes on an almost proggy hue with a killer titular vocal hook, while Alkalino & Alphabet City's insouciant key-driven "Dolve A La Discoteca" has 'Ibizan terrace party' stamped indelibly across its forehead. Bartellow's loopy, jazz-fuelled slice of house exotica ("Perhaps Strang") leads into the deepest of the lot - just check those chords on Rauch's "Space Places"!

Review: Vienna-based Nu-jazzers Philta have really pulled something special out of the bag on their latest release "Fire From The Sky". Similar to Herbert or very early Moloko, they ooze freshness and creativity and aren't afraid to do things a little different ? which pays off when the tunes are of this calibre. Opener "How Far" sets the bar high, with broken beats and wah-wah'd synths creating a soundbed for vocalist Fleur to lay down a seriously soulful vocal. Rapper and singer J-Todd joins in on title track Fire From The Sky, which is a thumping yet slick new-school Hip-Hop tune that makes Outkast seem like a distant memory.

Elsewhere, the Josip Klobucar mix of Dry Your Eyes is a berserk bit of mid-tempo fun, with the vocal struggling through a sea of strings and synths, as well as some punchy studio drums. The original is also included here too and sounds equally awesome with some chopped up Amen-soundalike drums crashing away throughout. On a different vibe, Don't Waste uses a simple two-chord pattern and Electro beat to devastating effect, again with Fleur working wonders over the top of it all.

With instrumentals available of all the big tunes, this could be an album that will stay with you for a long time and demand repeat listening
