Review: Remember when Fat Boy Slim was a young man who still had fire in his belly? Actually he never really was young was he, but he did inject a certain chutzpah into the big beat genre back in its heyday. This new EP, in which Rory Hoy and Under Influence remix each other's records, recalls that kind of energy. Review: Approved by none other than Skint, Craig Charles and Freddy Fresh, Rory Hoy returns with his fifth artist album, and it's his most varied and well executed long player to date. We ignite with an instant ode to unity as "Ready Set Go!" bumps and tickles with a vibrant melodic euphoria. Elsewhere we get heavy on the horne front as "1929" licks out the swing vibes, "16 Bit Future" whisks us back to the body-popping '80s with razor-sharp electro breakbeat glory while "GiveIt2Em" celebrates the '90s with a firing acid line and spine-smouldering old school synth pads. There's also some stunning Dick Dale surf guitar action to be found amidst the madness as "Tom Sez Yeh" fuses Pulp Fiction vibes with outrageous stomp science, and "Rebel Money" gives the Black Eyed Peas a run for their money. Review: A decade into his solo career, Super Hi-Fi regular Rory Hoy continues to serve up jaunty, party-hearty treats. "Flamingo At The Disco" is a tasty summer jam that fixes his usual hip-hop culture influences (choice vocal samples, scratches) to chunky nu-disco synths and the kind of filter-heavy groove more often found in old French Touch disco-house records. All Good Funk Alliance kicks off the expansive remix package with a D Train-influenced synth-funk revision, before Trotter underpins the celebratory action with a shuffling funk breakbeat. Review: Here's the latest from the trio of DJ Rory Hoy and Brighton's Kitten & The Hip aka Ashley Slater (Freakpower) and Scarlett Quinn. Their intention with this record is 'to funk up your summer" and with its perky 80s Latin funk vibes, think Kid Creole and ZE Records with some modern oomph, it's very likely that they will succeed. Remix-wise Ursula 1000 injects a little Blue Monday into the mix, Fort Knox Five drop the tempo for a more chilled out groove, Trotter adds more slap bass and finally Turntill teams up with Merlin for some edgier tropical bass action.

Review: It looks like All Good Funk Alliance's Super HiFi label has struck gold with this cheery, electrofunk influenced summer jam from Rory Hoy and former Freak Power vocalist Ashley Slater. The original, which benefits greatly from Slater's distinctive vocals, is the kind of cheery, Chic-influenced mid-tempo jam that sounds like it would cause commotion on festival dancefloors. The remix package is hefty, too. All Good Funk Alliance lead the way with a rubbery electrofunk-meets-nu disco slammer, while House of Phonk turn it into a French Touch influenced house banger. Best of all, though, is DJ Bone's rework, with re-casts the original as a choppy slab of slap bass-heavy P-funk revivalism.

Review: London nu-funk imprint Boogie Boutique come correct once again on the Shake It Out EP which pairs up French producer Prosper with a number of collaborators. The title track has Prosper going toe to toe with Knaresborough's finest Rory Hoy on a funk heavy cut n paste production blessed with the J-Live style delivery of Imagine This - German trio Funkanomics handle remix duties and turn in one of their trademark electrified productions that still makes ample usage of Imagine This' delivery. Following this, the superbly titled Old Skool Nemo proves his studio worth alongside Prosper on the boogie number "Get That Boogie Thing" whose speed of sound is matched by swiftness of vocal delivery from JC001 and the man Ashley Slater. Nick Fonkynson drops a remix that begs for a big beat revolution.
