Review: The last missive from DJ Vas HQ was way back in November of last year. Thankfully the summer's sunny allure seems to have got his creative juices flowing and now we have four new offerings for our aural pleasure. Roy Ayers' "Our Love Will Bring Us Back Together" is teased out into sinewy, high-end boogie and BB&Q's "Imagination" home is improved, getting rebuilt into lasered robot funk. Crown Heights Affair also get two hip swaying brassy tracks featured here, rounding off the euphoric party vibes in style.
Review: Originally released in 1996, Ultra's soul sizzler gets a futurised refix as Mousse T unearths a few renditions that have yet to see the light of day. As with anything that features Roy Ayers, it's all about the freaky keys that positively insist you shake every wobbly bit on your body. Highlights include the flute and jazz fusion of Deepzone's dub and the classic Chicago house bumps and wriggles on KKC's remix. Mousse T's own deep house take certainly isn't to be sniffed at either. Vibes indeed.
Review: 10 years on from its initial release, Groove Armada's contribution to the Anotherlatenight series gets a new lease of life. For those searching for deep, downtempo and vaguely Balearic fare, it's well worth a look. While Groove Armada's mix is enjoyable enough, it's the unmixed tracks that are most worthy of attention. Amongst the familiar classics (Kleer's boogie classic "Tonight", Mr Fingers' "Can You Feel It" and Metro Area's "Muira"), you'll find hot curiosities from the likes of Shuggie Otis (the decidedly acid-fried "Strawberry Letter 23"), Loose Ends ("Feel The Vibe"), Good Together (forgotten super-deep house jam "Work It Out") and Don Ray (the heady disco grooves of "Standing In The Rain").
Review: Wisely, house legend Kerri Chandler has used the opportunity provided by this DJ Kicks mix to showcase some of his greatest influences and inspirations. For the most part, that means a slick selection of soul, jazz-funk, disco and boogie gems, with highlights including the dubbed-out, synth-heavy early electro/hip-hop fusion of Fantasy Three's "It's Your Rock (Instrumental)", the sumptuous, solo-heavy bounce of Andre Seccarelli's "Shock Number 1" and the sensual modern soul warmth of The Foreign Exchange's body. Throw in a wealth of specially created interludes, an exclusive Chandler production (the spaced-out Afro-dub deepness of "Stop Wasting My Time") and one of the Innerzone Orchestra's greatest moments (acoustic soul cover "People Make The World Go Round") and you have a suitably superb collection.
