Review: The Maai label's debut outing, a two-track dose of intergalactic deep house and electro brilliance from Lis Sarroca, impressed us on its release earlier in the year. This follow-up, a multi-artist affair, is just as inspired. DJ Bowlcut sets the agenda via the driving, star-gazing deepness of 'Vibe' - all shimmering chords, crunchy drums, warming organ stabs and deep bass - before Rawido delivers the sparkling, squelchy, sun-flecked rush of 'Energy' and Rubinskee unfurls the crackly, hip-swinging deep house funk of 'Tei'. Elsewhere, Rasaan's 'Luv' is a love letter to classic, Prescription-era Chez Damier productions, Vince Void's 'Garros' is an organ-sporting, warehouse-ready roller and 'Whippersnapper' by Norus & DJ WHPR SNPR is a colourful chunk of laidback electro bliss.

Review: ISM's tenth anniversary celebrations tend towards the epic, with the Yam Who-helmed label serving up a series of bulging retrospective compilations stacked to the rafters with imprint highlights, dancefloor hits and overlooked gems. This second selection boasts 24 more tried-and-tested ISM classics, from the rubbery disco-funk bounce of Birdee's "Chemistry" and the synth-laden electrofunk revivalism of Qwestlife's D-Train style revision of "Streetlife" by Natasha Watts, to the spiraling Balearic disco throb of Pete Herbert's killer remix of Gemini Brothers' "Jeckermich" and the piano-powered nu-disco-soul of Rocco Raimundo's "Higher Lovin", featuring the smooth vocals of Stee Downes. Other highlights include the boogie-soul revivalism of Sweetooth's "Make Believe" and the hypnotic deep house/electrofunk fusion that is Mark E's fine revision of Heion's "Follow Me".

Review: ISM Records' two Futurism EPs have proved so popular that label boss Yam Who has decided to use them as the inspiration for an expansive compilation of previously unreleased gems. Unlike the label's other popular strand, Midnight Riot, there's always been a bit more of an open-minded, eclectic feel about the Futurism releases. This is no different. Whilst rooted in nu-disco and deep house, Futurism: Shades of Space also touches on 21st century jazz-funk (Manmademusic), bongo-laden spiritual house (Nu Ak's "Fly Away"), fluid garage (Nega Tiv's excellent "Liquid Call"), woozy Balearica (Ben La Desh and Plan DAqua), block party boogie (Questlife feat Wildstyle, Freekwency) and nu-jazz (Hamish Balfour). More importantly, the quality threshold remains high throughout.

Hoppla
Arsy - "Hoppla" - (9:30) 119 BPM Hot
Rubinskee - "Talk" - (6:45) 117 BPM
Review: This Hamburg label has always done things a little bit differently, and it's no exception on Hoppla. Arsy delivers the title track; heavy claps and chopped-up beats provide the focus, with a menacing bassline working its way through the drum-heavy arrangement. If that wasn't enough, then there's Rubinskee's "Talk" to contend with. Once again, the emphasis is on an off-centre groove and a shaking rhythm, with sensuous vocal samples merged with jazzy keys that conjure up images of balmy nights and the tequila-soaked taste of salt on the lips. It's as sensual as house music gets.

Review: It seems that we're not the only ones to have noticed the recent rise of Mexican disco-not-disco, and more specifically the anything-goes fusion antics of the Electrique Musique label. ISM head honcho Yam Who has been paying close attention, and here compiles a showcase featuring tracks the label and related Mexican artists. There's much to admire, from the wide-eyed Balearic disco shuffle of Zombies in Miami and the head-nodding, toe-tapping house shuffle of Mr Jones, to the post-punk electrofunk of Avanti and dayglo Prince grooves of Thomass Jackson. Listing all the highlights is near impossible, so just dive in - you won't be disappointed.

Club 303 - "Rave Masters" - (6:31) 125 BPM Hot
Club 303 & Rubinskee - "In & Out" - (6:32) 120 BPM
Review: What with its vintage-looking artwork and retro sounds, you could be forgiven for thinking this EP was a re-issue from back in the day. Club 303 however, is actually a contemporary clubnight in Mexico run by producer/DJs Andre VII and Julian Discoruido. This two-track single is their homage to the joys of old skool dance music. The title track is a beefed-up slice of 21st century acid house complete with rolling bassline and big splashy snares that build into a hysterical climax. "In & Out" is an explosive exploration of classic Chicago house featuring contributions from local producer Rubinskee.
