Mortals / Speechless
Mortals - (4:26) 175 BPM Hot
Speechless - (4:31) 174 BPM
Review: Long-time mates and sparring partners Jayline and Ruffstuff shoot out more radium rays with this crucial doublet on Jayline's Soundbully Audio. If you know the levels of trouble these two cats cause, you'll already know how vicious they are without pressing play... 'Mortals' is an immense piece of springy, savage sandpaper funk that rattles with crisp breaks, trippy samples and a bassline strong enough to electrocute you through the speakers. 'Speechless' maintains the gully factor with an equally naughty off-kilter bassline, swaggering drums and haunting vocals. Serious business.

Bounce
Bounce (Subzero remix) - (4:35) 175 BPM Hot
Bounce (Ruffstuff refix) - (3:58) 176 BPM
Review: Ruffstuff and Friller aren't tip-toeing around on this one. Instead, they've got their foot hard down on the acceleration pedal, the sub in the boot is booming and the world is flicking quickly past the windows, as their new single Bounce rattles into your consciousness with all the grace of a swan in a second hand glass shop. Luckily, grace isn't in huge demand on this release and pure energy has taken precedence, with Subzero stepping up on the A-side for a huge remix that starts on a halftime tip but rapidly flips into a gnarly rendition of force. The Ruffstuff refix on the B-side is also top quality, with an old-school jump-up twist in its stabby bassline. Wicked stuff.

Review: SHOTS FIRED! Gun Audio continue their Reload series with another epic slab of forthright freshness from some of the most respected names in the game: From master craftsman OGs like Heist, Murdock, Rowney & Propz and Jaydan to unavoidable hurter heroes Turno to exciting new talents like Jaxx, Vacuum and Meladee, it's a premiership rollcall each packing a heavyweight punch. Highlights across the 23-strong collection include Jaydan's reverse-stringing, cat-strangling freak out on "Murdering Monster", the hornet bass shakes and switches of Jaxx's "Combinations" and the frog chorus on Blackley's "TMI" but that really is the tip of the most explosive V/A album Gun Audio have ever detonated. Reload means reload.

Review: Bringing people together through the power of good drum and bass isn't alien to these guys - Gun Audio run City Flow Festival back home in Antwerp, offering one of the biggest platforms for hard hitting jump-up sounds in Western Europe. Their Reload EP series has so far seen the rise of too many new artists to count and it's these massive compilations that the people want to hear. They bring City Flow together and they show off what's yet to come for the next year. Soul Intent, T>I and Supreme Being all make appearances, but it's the surprising new upstarts you want to listen out for. Expect very big things.

Review: V Recordings sister label Chronic steps up to give us volume 2 of their Rollers series, featuring 16 exclusive tracks from the freshest talent and the most exciting names currently holding down the underground scene. The label was reborn in 2013 with the mantra of presenting the world with no frills dance floor Drum and Bass and judging from this latest offering they certainly seem to be fulfilling their mission. From the rolling jungle sounds of Bladerunner's epic "Lock Off VIP" to the distorted growls of Command Strange's "Riots" if you are looking to get the dance floor bouncing, then Chronic have you covered.
