Review: Many congratulations to PIV, a well-regarded house label that has now been offering up a diverse blend of classy cuts - many inspired by, in their words, "the classic era of US house" - for five years. To celebrate this landmark, the label's Dutch and Indonesian founders have scoured the archives and put together a 15-track selection of highlights so far. There's much to enjoy throughout, with highlights including the rolling, tech-tinged deep house warmth of Prunk's 'Dreams', the squelchy bass and starry chords of Djoko's early morning favourite 'Planet Groove', the Swag style, loose-limbed tech-house-funk of Toman's 'Surfin', and the ultra-melodious, mid-90s New Jersey garage-influenced deep-tech loveliness of 'Bolt' by Ruze.
Review: Toolroom's compilations have soundtracked Miami's Winter Music Conference for more than a decade and this is no exception. Here they've drafted in three of their key artists to compile the album: Friend Within, Leftwing : Kody & Siege - who all take you on a journey through the various shades of house and techno. Highlights include: Siege's remix of legend Green Velvet's massive "Bigger Than Prince, boss man Mark Knight's electrifying rework of C.O.T.'s "Let It Go" into a uplifting house anthem, Dutchman Franky Rizardo cool as a cucumber on the smooth groove of "X Marks The Spot" through to veteran west coast producer Miguel Migs returning to the spotlight with the ultra deep "Moving Light" feat. Lisa Shaw and the comeback of Canadian legend Hatiras on the slinky and hypnotic remix of Sammy Deuce's "EZY". From certified main room essentials to sun-kissed poolside vibes, capture the magic of Miami Music Week with 'Toolroom Miami 2020'.
Review: It's that time of year again, when deals are made and stars are born in The City Of Magic. In preparation for Miami's Winter Music Conference, Mark Knight & Co. serve up their hit predictions on Toolroom Miami 2019 - accept no substitute! Across a whopping 62 tracks, there's all you need to hear, right here, across the event's five consecutive days and compiled in three continuous mixes, appropriately titled: The Poolside Mix, The Club Mix and rather appropriately The Afterclub Mix. Highlights not limited to: Illyus & Barrientos swingin' diva antics on "Shout", chief Mark Knight with Danny Howard channeling early noughties tech house on the polyrhythmic "You Can Do It Baby", French bass-house hero Shiba San on the super boompty "Crush That" through to legend ATFC on the epic "Strong 2 Survive" (Dario D'Attis extended mix) and Israeli progressive house expert Khen on the slinky and hypnotic "Pecas" (original mix).
Review: As you'd expect, given the label's runaway success over the past few years, there are plenty of very familiar cuts on this 52-track 'best of' from the all-conquering Toolroom, including GotSome's tribal smash 'Nomad Chat', label boss Mark Knight's infuriatingly catchy, flute-driven Shovell collab 'Selecao', Mendo's sample-heavy G-houser 'Mooving' and CamelPhat's remix of Fatboy Slim. But there are plenty of less heavily rinsed gems on offer too, and with tracks from the likes of D.Ramirez, Leftwing & Kody, Dosem, DJ S.K.T and Dale Howard plus reworks of Sterling Void and Todd Terry classics, it's a no-brainer for tech-house jocks on a budget.
