Review: For our next look at the Juicy Fruit Recordings crew we take in this vibrant new four track display from S Man, who we can safely say has delivered the goods once again. We begin with a look at the title track 'Vortex' which combines super punchy drum breaks with a devilish lead synth instrument that finds itself moving freely around the mix. This is then followed by the constantly shifting drum displays and gnarly, horn-like bass pulses, emerging from the mix like a monster from the deep, before we take in 'Wah Do Dem', a party-inspired rethink of Eek A Mouse's classic reggae singalong. We then finish off in style as the sweeping bass synth patterns and crunchy percussive arrangements of 'Dead House' give us a finale to remember!

Review: For this bumper of a VA, Juicy Fruit have roped in Redline, Erbman, Rival Technique and more for the 2nd instalment in their Juicy Gang series. Featuring 7 street-focused cuts, there's a plethora of styles here that make this EP an easy win for anybody who appreciates the diversity of music the scene has to offer. Redline lands with the old-school, junglist cut that isn't the most glamorous but which gets the job done in a fashion only the old school can. Kovert Sound and Bill & Ed take things up a notch in terms of heaviness, whilst Hannibal Selector gets all funky with an wicked set of samples and some stuttering rolling drums. Wicked, wicked.

Review: There's no doubting the fact that there's been a distinctive stylistic movement within D&B in the past couple of years, a noticeable strand of the scene that's cultivated a particular style of sharp-edged yet rough rollers. Kings of the Rollers are the obvious example, but S Man is landing in a similar vein here with a fiery four-tracker than hits hard, seriously hard. 'Lucifer' exemplifies the bare-bones approach taken here and its works well and its gargantuan main bassline reverberates across the range with the desired effect. 'Bronson' and 'Be Right Now!!' both keep up the good work with their focus on sonic polemics and percussive bounce. Excellent.

Review: It's safe to say that the Juicy Fruit Recordings team have supplied us with an absolute gem here as they arrange a collection of top draw remixes, bringing a new lease of life to 'Year One'. We begin with Brockout's high energy redesign of Bill & Ed's 'Maximum Warp', before Diligent Fingers gets stuck into his groovy rethink of 'Hernando' from S Man. Next up, we take in some stripped back drumsy flavours on Warhead's dramatic overhaul of 'Visions Of The Future' from Kovert Sound, before Erbman finishes off the project in style with his sub heavy recreation of Verdikt's 'Here We Go'.

Review: Don't be misled by the title: this is no thrown-together 'greatest hits' package but rather a 40-track label showcase from DJ Hybrid's Audio Addict label, coming complete (if you opt to buy the whole album) with a fast and furious, 52-minute mixed version by Canada's RMS, aka Paul Currie. Tracks come a mixture of relatively new names (Martyn Nytram, Saffire Dubz, Confusious) and more established players (LJ High, Scartip and of course Hybrid himself), while stylistically the album touches on various different D&B sub-genres, but with the emphasis always firmly on cuts that are built to tear up the rave.

Review: Manchester mandem: S-Man puts the S back in SubWoofah with a fresh original, one remix and two crucial VIPs of established bangers. "Jungle Junkie" is an open admission to the addiction many of us proudly suffer day-to-day. With its bashy scattered breaks and guttural ragga vocals, it's an instant call-to-arms and complete disclosure that you'll never find him in rehab. VIP-wise "Brain Freeze" scuffs up the euphoric dynamics of the original for something grainier and distorted while the perennial "Rava Flava" gets extra muscles in the drums. For more of a stripped back bassline-focused take on "Jungle Junkie" check his Rolling remix. Clue's in the title.

Review: Not to be confused with Roger Sanchez's S-Man alias, S Man is all about the heritage jungle vibes. Making his Sub-Woofah EP debut, here he lays down four unruly examples of D&B damage. "Rava Flava" lives up to its name with detuned synths and a bassline so full fat S Man needed doctor's approval before bouncing it down to audio. "Fire" twists up ragga chats with big jazz chords in the same way Jumping Jack Flash did 20 years ago, "Brain Funk" tickles with a funkier stick and an array of strange, twisted sound design while "Give You" tugs on the emotional heartstrings with its delicate piano and whirring shakers. Rewind.
