Review: As the matter-of-fact title makes clear, Dirt Crew's 'The Remixes' series offers sporadic round ups of some of the finest reworks from the Dirt Crew vaults. As you'd expect, this third volume is full to bursting with floor-friendly revisions, with a mixture of rising stars, underground heroes and big hitters at the helm. Highlights include, but are in no way limited to, Clive From Accounts' lusciously loose and tactile deep house tweak of KaySoul's 'Behind One', KaySoul's ultra-deep broken house tweak of 'See The Morning Light' by Petals In Sound, Ron Trent's epic and awe-inspiring re-imagining of Ida Hana's 'Lo Fi Hi', Dampe French's boogie and jazz-funk influenced, break-driven remix of S3A's 'Fever', and Spirit Catcher's synth-heavy, acid-flecked re-wire ofPrudo's 'Ancora No'.

Review: Local Talk has always been good at offering up themed compilations showcasing different aspects of the label's output. The latest, as the title suggests, offers up some seriously good nuggets - mostly made in recent times - that draw huge inspiration from house music of the 1990s. There's much to admire throughout the 12 tracks on show, from the undulating TB-303 bass, sparkling piano motifs and glassy-eyed pads of Deymare's '1990' and Gerd's terrific 'Deep Mix' of Mateo & Matos's Masters at Work tribute 'Maw Basics', to the organ-rich roll of Terrence Parker's 'Unconditional' and the breakbeat-driven deep house funkiness of Kiko Navarro's 'Dope High'. Kyodai's 'Breaking (90s Dub)', a mid-90s NYC meets New Jersey style gem, and S3A's breathless 'Sleepness 909', are also superb.

Review: As the title suggests, this action-packed, 15-track collection offers up a swathe of hand-picked remixes from the Dirt Crew Recordings catalogue. Presenting a range of complimentary takes on house music but rooted in the label's deep and occasionally disco-tinged philosophy, there's naturally much to enjoy. Our picks of a very strong bunch include the colourful nu-disco-meets-piano-house flex of Lorenz Rhode's revision of S3A's 'Clarence J Bootlicker', a gorgeous, glassy-eyed Balearic house tweak of Rhode's own 'And I Said' courtesy of Tensnake, Leaves and Iron Curtis's ultra-dreamy and tactile take on The Tortoise's 'Lost Forever', a squelchy and locked-in Motorcitysoul re-rub of Dirt Crew, and Nebraska's inspired rework of 'Peach Shuffle' by Damp? [sic].

Basile De Suresnes - "Get Back" (feat Tareuss) - (6:44) 124 BPM Hot
Alastair Lane - "Tokyo Love Affair" - (4:44) 110 BPM
Review: We're not quite sure what the loose theme is for Frappe's latest multi-artist EP, but the material on show is well worth further investigation. Scene stalwart S3A provides a peak-time ready chunk of sparkling, densely layered sample-house full of rubbery slap-bass, drowsy chords, chunky house beats and twinkling melodies ('Work For NYRK'), before laying down an even weightier, horn-heavy house stomper ('Slump'). Elsewhere, Ten Fingerz joins the dots between chunky, peak-time house, hip-house and Blaxploitation funk ('Rue du Fonk'); Basile De Surenses drops some disco-tinged, soul-fired vocal deep house ('Get back'); and Alastair Lane reaches for the glassy-eyed 'city pop' synths on the gorgeous and sublimely squelchy 'Tokyo Love Affair'.

Harry Wolfman - "Ice Thin" (Jesse Futerman remix) - (5:59) 118 BPM
Review: As its' rather matter-or-fact title makes clear, this 15-track opus gathers together some of the finest remixes released on Dirt Crew Recordings to date. It's well worth a listen, featuring as it does an attractive mix of loopy, bass-heavy hedonism (Nachtbraker reworking The Revenge), sumptuous NYC deep house warmth (the legendary Kerri Chandler adding a chunky new spin to Dam Swindle's Mayer Hawthorne hook-up), analogue-rich hypnotism (Mark E re-imagining Chymera), rushing brilliance (Strip Steve flipping Lorenz Rhode), jazz-house-goes-hip-house (Fouk re-framing A Bunch of Guys) and much more besides. We're particularly fond of the remixes by Morning Factory, Art of Tones and Jesse Futerman, though the quality and variety is so good throughout that picking out highlights is genuinely difficult.

Review: Now that we've all had a chance to enjoy S3A's typically dusty and evocative debut album, "Pages", Dirt Crew has decided to offer up a swathe of fresh interpretations of tracks from the set. The standout mixes come from Art of Tones, who offers up 'Remix', 'Beats' and 'Dub' interpretations of "Friends" that brilliantly re-casts it as a synth-sporting chunk of loose-limbed jazz-funk/disco-boogie fusion. Nachtbraker gets his mitts on the same track and opts instead for a bouncy deep house revision rich in booming sub-bass, fluid synth motifs and garage-influenced drums, whole Lorenz Rhode turns "Clarence J Boddicker" into a string laden, synth-heavy house roller. There are also two contrasting takes on "Fever": a gentle, head-in-the-clouds downtempo version by Dampel French and a deep, druggy and driving peak-time deep house team from Felix Leifur.

Review: Fans of sample digging deep house maestro S3A take note: the producer has finally dropped his long-promised debut album on Dirt Crew. While there are a couple of subtle musical references to his hip-hop style beat-making past - see the blunted, off-kilter beat science of "Joint No. 5" and the drowsy mid-tempo dustiness of "Interlude For Marc" - the majority of the album has its sights firmly set on peaktime dancefloors. Amongst the plentiful highlights you'll find the swinging, leftfield jazz-funk/jazz-house fusion of "Greed", the fuzz-bass propelled stomp of "Fever", the funk-sampling heavy house genius of "Clarence J Boddicker" and the heady disco-house warmth of "Friends".

Like it soulful? Then check for Trevor Lawrence Jr's 'Tiptoe'. Like it jazzy? Try Prequel's 'Lefty'. Fiending for those old skool Jersey organ jams? Jamie 326 & Masalo's 'Red Light' will thrill you. Or if it's stripped-back 3am tracky shizzle you're after, allow us to point you in the direction of First Floor's 'You Dubn't Know', with its throbbing bass and hauntingly familiar vocal sample. Review: It's taken a while, but S3A is back on Local Talk, a label he last graced in 2013. He's produced many killer EPs in that time, taking his brand of dusty, sample-laden deep house goodness to such labels as Quintessentials, Quartet Series, Times Are Ruff and Soundofspeed. We can happily report that he's on top form throughout, from the rubbery, layered, disco-deep house roll of EP opener "Premiere Rexidence", to the slick, Chez Damier style chunky deep house warmth of closing cut "Deep Mood Vol. 4". In between, you'll find the cheery blast that is "Searching Force" (a bustling house rework of an old Real Thing disco-funk classic) and the rushing old school house bounce of "End Track For A DJ".

Review: On their Deep Love 2018 compilation, you'll find label stalwarts to newcomers alike for respected Berlin imprint Dirt Crew. Their seventh compilation in the series, the label claims that it is the most complete in terms of sound and flow - and will blend in perfectly with that laid back, late summer mood. From moments of dusty and chilled-out deepness courtesy of Lorenz Rhode or Felix Leifur, lo-slung acid jams like Ponty Mython's "It's All Understood" or funked-up disco house like Frenchman S3A's "Modern Soul". Elsewhere, we have got the kind of slinky and sensual tech-house you've come to expect from the label - best exemplified by Canadian Dan Only or Jaxx Madicine's particularly sublime "Blue Bird". Essentially, it's more of the fine quality you've come to expect from this house music institution.

Review: Notching up a decade of releases requires something suitably celebratory. That's exactly what Germany's admired Quintessentials has served up on this tenth birthday compilation. It comes packed with previously unheard cuts of the highest quality, from the sun-bright swing of Borrowed Identity's UK garage-meets-deep house opener "For You", to the atmospheric, synth-heavy chug of Ooft's "Freak-E-Groove", the smoky late night jazz-house of Loz Goddard's "Leaves", and the foreboding, jazz-funk-biting sample-house dustiness of S3A's "Searching". Also worth checking are the drowst chords and bumpin' beats of KRL's "Baltimore" and the low-slung, gospel-influenced deep house pump of 4004's "Continuous Dialogue".

Review: Digger doyen S3A makes his debut on Eureka! with three jams tailored for these rare warm months. "Doop Doop" flexes around a brilliantly carved backing vocal hook and a killer funk guitar solo in a way that's reminiscent of early Iz & Diz, "Emotional M1" takes us on deeper trip as an ode to one of house music's most influential and iconic synths while "Denials" brings it all together with a slower midtempo break and jazzy flutters so dreamy you'll swear you're wearing your PJs. Artful.

Review: Props to Quartet Series for recruiting the hugely talented S3A, a sample digging producer whose dusty and quietly soulful take on deep house rarely disappoints. Interestingly, he's in a sleazier and more percussive frame of mind on EP opener "Presentiment (featuring Mikka Blaster)", a bustling and heavy affair which wraps a skipping, tribal-influenced rhythm track in bumping bass, swirling strings and sharply edited orchestral samples. The disco-sampling hustle of "Something More" is similarly chunky and upbeat, while "Wu Impact" remains funky, focused and fearsome despite the presence of glassy-eyed soul vocal snippets and densely layered samples. If that's not enough to set the pulse racing, the 4/4 UK garage influenced bounce of "Influences" should put a spring in your step.

Review: Mad Mats and Tooli have decided to celebrate five and a half years of their much-loved Local Talk label by gathering together a swathe of fresh cuts that best represent the label's eclectic approach to house music. It's a fine set, moving from the electric bass driven jazz-house of Art Of Tones' "Violation" to the UK garage influenced deep house skip of Hugo LX, via the rich, soulful house warmth of Sean McCabe, the synth-laden Herbie Hancock-isms of DJ Spinna and the celebratory disco-house heaviness of S3A's "Bob Morton". Chuck in superb contributions from Bodhi Satva, Simbad (as SMBD) and newcomer Marcel Lune, and you have a near essential collection of feel-good house moments.

Review: Few artists are quite as good as S3A at turning dusty, obscure samples into soulful deep house gold. Here, the French producer makes his first appearance on Quintessentials with four more sample-heavy dancefloor workouts. There's naturally plenty to get excited about, from the dirt-encrusted, disco-sampling deep house grooves of "Dick Jones Track" and warm, loved-up piano house vibes of "Feels Like Garage" (of the U.S variety, of course), to the brilliantly bombastic, hip-hop style quick-fix "Massive Horns (Interlude)". Arguably most impressive, though, is the hard-boiled, boogie-era disco-meets-21st century house bump of "Rush". It sounds like a guaranteed party-starting, peak-time smasher.

They're not wrong; this one is reminiscent of MCDE's Raw Cuts series; pure disco cut-up goodness. Review: Pablo Valentino's Faces label gets 2016 off to a flyer with a rather hefty double LP compilation called Le Sampler Des Copains. Translating simply as The Friends Sampler, this ten track compilation features productions from friends old and new of the label and will appeal to anyone that likes their house deep, soulful and all about the groove. Nestled inbetween are the occasional interlude of a slower tempo that ensures the label's roots in instrumental hip hop are not forgotten. Roman Rauch, Not Danilo (Plessow?), Simbad and Valentino himself contribute tracks along the way, and S3A set the tone with the burning, insistent house business of "Boiler Lyon (The Ravist's Face)". The superbly titled "My Tax Agent Fucked It Up" from Not Danilo is the best cut here for many more reasons than the name. That bassline, pow!

Cuthead - "Braziliance" - (5:28) 120 BPM Hot
Cuthead - "Oef Oef" - (2:42) 159 BPM
S3A - "Theuz Hamtaak" - (5:52) 120 BPM
Moony Me - "Magergarten" - (7:05) 126 BPM
Review: Uncanny Valley's split, multi-artist EPs are usually amongst their strongest releases, and Give N Take is no exception. Put together by Cuthead, it features tracks from three of his favourite producers, plus two of his own. Max Graef kicks things off with the sleepy deep house jazz of "Tittenkuschler", while Parisian S3A impresses with the rising disco samples, sturdy grooves and minor key flourishes of "Theuz Hamtaak". Moony Me's contribution, the flashing Chicago bass, woozy chords and choppy disco samples of "Magergarten", is also rather good. As for Cuthead's contributions, they're predictably strong, with the samba-goes-boompty shuffle of "Braziliance" just edging out the deep-off-kilter downtempo MPC jam "Oef Oef" in the "best track" stakes.

The 4th (Variation 2) - (6:52) 117 BPM
Review: Can you believe that this is S3A's sixth record this year! And with beats like this we'd happily welcome another dozen. "Looping Strings" obviously needs no explanation whereas "The First Year" could easily be re-titled: "Looping Horns". "Seekin' Sunshine" introduces a Stevie Wonder funk to the EP and the French producer winds up a great vamp over the course of the track. S3A's final cut, The 4th" (variation 2)", is a bit of filtered disco house that lovers of early Francis Inferno Orchestra, Mic Newman and The Tortoise will scramble to get their hands on first.

Review: It's a sign of the ludicrously prolific nature of Mad Mats and Tooli's Local Talk imprint that this is their third compilation of label highlights this year. That the quality threshold remains impressively high is credit to their A&R skills. Encompassing revivalist US garage, twinkle-eyed deep house and enveloping groovery, Talking House Volume 3 is packed full of distinctive dancefloor highlights. Check, for example, the fearsome acid tweakery of Anaxander's breathless "My Aniseed Lollipop", the wide-eyed, piano-laden rush of Deep Space Orchestra's brilliant remix of The True Rebels' "Bitter Love", and the baggy, organ-heavy samba-house warmth of Tommy Rawson's "Don't Lose It". And that's just for starters. In a word: essential.

Review: There are echoes of classic Parisian deep house moments in this bluesy EP from current Paris resident S3A (Sampling as an Art). "Holdin' On", for example, evokes memories of both loopy filter house and, more pertinently, the early works of St Germain (circa Boulevard). "Homage", particularly in its "Ravy Bonus Beat" guise, goes further towards classic French disco-house territory, sounding not unlike a grown up take on early Casius or Stardust. Meanwhile, "For The Girlz" expertly loops up some disco-funk grooves and soulful scat vocals, throwing in some additional percussion and classic US garage stabs to keep the party moving.
