Review: Italian veteran Salvatore Stallone serves up two slices of disco from the leftfield side on his own Polyritmia label, drawing heavily on Italy's own experimental musical heritage. With its wukka-wukking guitar loop that builds to a squelchy, heavily effected solo, 'Livinig Jump Ana Log' is the more overtly 'discofied' in the traditional sense, albeit still one for open-minded crowds only (it'd clear the floor at your average wedding reception!), while 'Goce The Dub' is a darker, chuggier affair that's one-part cosmic/Italo to two-parts acid house and Detroit techno, and that features a very 80s-sounding synth solo as it reaches its climax.
Review: Originally released on vinyl back in 2016, here is some disco not disco, techno not techno and jazz not jazz: 6 L 6 & Co. is a duo formed by Daniele Brenca and Salvatore Stallone. Influences of post psychedelic rock are present, but also by darker techno vibes as well. The spaced out dub experiment of "Voice From Juno" will have you travelling without moving, while the futurist jazz funk of "Where Is My Island" has a lively energy to it that proves that the duo certainly honed their skills on-stage. Stallone is said to have been a DJ and producer since 1974, which figures. Here's hoping the label's sophomore release will become available digitally too.
Review: Italian duo Alex Carpentieri and Pietro De Lisi are System Of Survival and present their second album since 2012's Needle & Thread LP on BPitch Control. There are some diverse moods and grooves on offer that really pack a punch on D-Votion, such as the hi-tech soul of second track "Packing" or the appropriately titled "From Motor City With Love" a dusty deep house jam which sounds reminiscent of MCDE's Raw Cuts series. There's the usual tech house shenanigans from the duo on offer in the form of "No Time To Waste" or the title track where they team up with homeboy Salvatore Stallone. But our favourites were the latin house epic "Kutting" featuring Vhelade's powerful vocals or the tunnelling and mysterious "The Bear, The Wolf & The Eagle" which is perfect for building a vibe.
